Another long one here, apologies, but I do like to be thorough in my reviews and give you as much detail as I can for you to make your own decisions about these kind of products! Does anyone want to see more comparisons of grips? There's a fair few out there now!
I love love love my Hobby Holder. It's been a game changer in terms of my stability, accuracy, and ability to confidently go in for fine detail. It does everything any hand sized mount will do but the stability bar really does work for me and provides options and angles that merely pressing hand to hand does not provide. It's really a clever little bit of kit that doesn't break the bank. No reason not to love it.
I debated getting the Hobby Holder for some time and then really took a look at the bottle cap feature and how its designed. I realized its just the top off a soda bottle. So I sawed off the top of a Coca-Cola bottle and super glued it to a medicine bottle. Instant "hobby holder" thats literally free.
I do the same with my car tyres. Just put rubber bands over the alloys over and over until you have enough to drive! I’m printing money!!! But seriously, glad you managed to make one. Find it helps you paint?
@@WatchItPaintIt They do indeed. In use its identical to the Hobby Holder, except for the stabilizer arm. And thanks to the missus's insatiable thirst for soda I have enough bottle caps to mount every mini GW has ever created.🤣 Keep up the great work and look forward to updates on the SpeedPaints.
Good vid. The RGG 360 seems pointless. I currently use 3 Citadel holders and they are great, you simply spin it in your hand if you need to. They are super fast to take a model in or out and hold them steadier than tack/putty does (which has a bit of give sometimes & models can come loose). HOWEVER holding a model in different positions (like upside down) and still keeping a super steady grip isn't the best. Plus the grip holds the base, which means that to paint the rim of your base you have to remove the model and use a different holder (which is lame) The Hobby Holder looks like it solves the issues of the Citadel holder. lots of ways to hold it steady in different positions. Still decently quick to change models as you can pop them off and on (although still with tack). You only need one because of the pop caps. Sounds like its worth the price to give it a shot
The Hobby Holder got me after your first video and that´s why I ordered one with a few goodies, but the RGG looks totally uninteresting for me. 360° ? I can rotate my minis on the HH 360° too. Putty already on it? Who knows how long this will work well. For me the HH looks superior is every way.
All great points dude. The spin and the putty are definitely improvements but like I say in the comparison video - THH *can* do that too. I can see a lot of people only having THH and not needing RGG but I’m currently painting a snowman and it’s really slick on the RGG - so occasionally it’s going to suit the model slightly better if you know what I mean. I think you’ve got the right one though
Hehe! Yeah luckily been testing it for a month :-) I feel like I need to pick up more and compare them all :D but maybe not what many people are interested in and would take a lot of time
I've backed the Hobby holder. Having been against it in the past, I now plan to give it a chance/ and am prepared to eat my words lol. Plus, there is always better value with KS.
I stumbled upon this video. I was about to order the red grass games holder, but somehow found out about this one. So it seems like you are saying the hobby holder from game envy is the way to go?
It’s my more used holder by far. I’m lucky enough to have both and they both get used. By my holder holder is every time I paint and the RGG is more then I care about turning the miniature 360 over and over
Great video i like both but i think probably hobby holder would be better because of the handle..i think. Keep the videos coming learning alot from you. Finally started painting my miniatures. I saw the ghost miniature how would you paint that i have some from folklore and sword & sorcery and i dont know how to do it any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Thanks dude. That’s what I was trying to work out too! My ghost is transparent so I was playing with what I could do to add detail but keep it ethereal. If yours are not transparent have you checked out our spectral walkers from Green Horde?
@@WatchItPaintIt yeah I saw that video awesome work but my ghosts are transparent as well I know you will probably figure it out before me so I hope I see a video...lol. Do you use any type of magnifying glass or glasses when painting?
Oooh. You’re in the same boat as me! I was trying to work it out to paint my Ghost Busters! But I only had 1 test model :D I’ll try and think of something. I just wanted something simple - keep them see through but shade in some detail. I have *just* started using a headband style magnifying glass. It’s taken some getting used to but if you compare my Deep Madness Arthur Weyland video to any a few months ago that’s the difference it made once I’ve started getting used to wearing them
@@WatchItPaintIt ok cool I tried something like that but couldn't get used to depths perception I guess I started using some cheap reading glasses and they work better for me at least now ... I'm almost done with my Shadows of brimstone miniatures then hopefully work on nemesis or KDM.
I had the same problem. Took me ages like 5-10 models to get used to the depth perception. I thought they were terrible at the start. But now I’m used to them - amazing for the really detailed parts. Makes me want an even smaller than insane detail brush :O
I've been painting for years, and I've never wanted that handle thing. A good grip is all I need, and something fatter than either of these two. I have a 4 oz. jar of modeling paste, that is about 1.4" in diameter-- best thing to put poster tack on ever :D (and I've been using the modeling paste for basing).
Oooh fatter! I’m the opposite I have the grip for the hobby holder and I hate how bulky it feels in my hand :D I think it’s the same for these handles, we’re all different, we all need different things I can totally appreciate these handles are surplus to your requirements. I’d be super interested in getting you to try one sometime, be really interesting to see if you’d convert having used one :D Road trip to the UK Expo this year? First convention I’ll be at and we can get you painting with one :) hope you had a good Christmas dude!
It’s from War in Christmas Village. I did an unboxing on the channel and painted some up while it was on Kickstarter. You’re totally right about the snowman though. I’ve painted both of them for no reason other than they look friggin awesome! I’m making a video of the second snow man, so he’ll be on the channel soon! Thanks dude
Yeah that was my feeling. If you can afford both and are looking for holders they are both useful. I’m painting a mini right now on the RGG but I know the next two I have lined up will be better on THH!
Innovation, development and production I guess? :-( $17 for The Hobby Holder though. I’d be surprised if you regret that purchase - I’m still actively choosing to use mine 4 years later :-O

Yeah totally not my experience at all! Yeah you might be right! Although I don’t know if they knew I was a TH-camr at the time. I’ve heard a few complaints about their customer service in the last few days though - which does worry me! Maybe I’ll have to do a review on their customer service! :-O

Comparisons are allways great, not only for grips.
Thanks for the great comparison. Helped me immensely.

I'm thinking about getting both and gluing the small base of the Hobby Holder on top of the spinner top of the RGG. Best of both worlds.

Thank you for this.
Please make a comparison between these two and the GW Citadel Painting Handle.
I nearly bought one today actually to do that. But I’m sure I will say it’s not as good so will just be a waste of $10 for me :-D
