Heard this masterpiece just a week ago ..... The part 'When it is time for me to go' brings me goosebumps and moves me to bitter tears.

I have listened to this many times the last two years, and it is equally touching, moving and fascinating each time

I am crying with you ❤️❤️. This is phenomenal, such a deep and honest interpretation. So intense even though I am in front of my computer. Real voices, real people, real emotions, perfection. I loved the soloists, especially the alt. Thank you so very much for making this recording and lovely video, this is going to accompany wherever I go the next few days.

I've been practising my part in this for several weeks and am totally blown away by this performance. It's perfection - and as Anne M says below by far the best recording I've heard to date. I feel sorry for the one commentator below who finds it "too simplistic". It's anything but, and we have to work hard to avoid inserting our own emotions and instead let the music convey that. (The composer specifically requires that in the score).❤❤❤

@@owenravden6764Why? Can’t say their version is any better or addressing the issue mentioned.

Beautifully, beautifully done. My chorus will be performing this next season. We hope to do it equal justice.

Those sleigh bells are fantastic. Any info on them?

They are two old Premier. Bells attached to leather straps. Probably from 60/70s.

    Shattering

The music is too simplistic and nonspecific to do justice to the expression of the deep emotions of Anderson's tale.

Each to their own. I rarely hear music that is so moving capturing the emotions of the story with such effective musical means. Simplistic? You don’t come across quarter note quintuplets often, tenors soaring above the sopranos and rather complex polyrhythms. And yet there are no extras here, not one feature that doesn’t serve the purpose of telling the story. It won the Pulitzer Prize for music and deservedly so.
