the way lafleur & shutt separate themselves from the D is amazing. in Lafleur's case he separates and waits for the pass. in shutt's case he separates and somehow the puck finds him. so many of their goals are like this. i think the differerence between today & back then is that now if you hang around the net like that most likely you are going to get crosschecked in the mouth or kidneys.
This was a Saturday night. Not a lot of games, which was unusual. HNIC would have had Montreal-Detroit, and the Toronto-Boston games. Living in Edmonton at the time, for sure we would have watched the Toronto-Boston game, and the Montreal-Detroit game would have been shown in Quebec and the maritimes.
@@michaelmacintyre6996 haha, and on the coast in NS we did the same. My French ( at least understanding) skills got really good, way better than I got from school. It wasn’t just the play by play, but interviews and analysis as well because I watched even the intermissions on channel 7 (cbc French). Fun times.
Goalies had zero strategy back then. It's like they just stuck a guy off the street in net, and told them "do whatever you can to stop the puck". Old time hockey.
Somehow at Radio-Canada they called him Michel, thinking Mike or Michael was just a translation - Bossy hated it. If I remember correctly he denounced it in an interview in French while he was still playing
*the quality and professionalism of the reporting is stellar and long gone, sadly*
*good lord, 60th goal and no jumping around like a teenager showboating, what a gentleman he was*
You got that right -
Not just in hockey, in NFL WR gets a first down and showboats like it's something extraordinary
It’s been far too long since we had a scorer like this
We could even settle for Steve Shutt. :D

If we were smart we could have had the chance to draft bedard, i hope we still can draft a good player somewhere between 8-13
@@nikshill8767 Or your stick is immobilized. I do find, however, that today’s players have a greater skill level - perhaps from improved training.
@@RoderickJMacdonald agree!! it is a different skill level now.
His reaction speed is amazing on that 60th, makes it look the camera's framerate couldn't catch up to him at the time.
The Flower was beautiful!
Every generation has it's favorite player; that's the guy from mine! No pun intended.
He was winding up before the puck even got to him. Golden locks flowing.
Lafleur had such a quick release. Goalies were always late.
Guy Lafleur was a BEAST!! Oh I see the Leafs LOST again....

On the farm in Saskatchewan, we always watched the Habs on CBC French.

Only the immortal Danny Gallivan - the greatest hockey broadcaster of all - is missing from this video.
Awesome
My French is so bad now that I can catch one word in four
i couldn't understand a damn word that guy was saying !
Hey! The Islanders kicked the crap outta the Rangers! Bon ( Bonne?)!
This is why Detroit was called the Dead Things in those days.

Michel Bossy, lol.
Yep caught that . He actually says Michele. Esti lol
Bossy was a great goal scorer but Lafleur was the complete package score pass skate

Well, for Canada he might be a star...
