I count myself very lucky to have seen them live a couple times.
If you happen to know a shop which would have "hello I feel the same", "my room in the trees" and "we walked in songs" on vinyl & ship them to France, I'm a buyer ! Definitely my favourite band to this day. I managed to buy "umbrella" recently, but it cost me too much !
I agree entirely. I think it was "The Mountain" - great radio station in Seattle that played "Curious" when that album first came out - I went and bought it immediately and I've been a huge fan ever since.
Their music helped me pass exams. I'd wake up at 3:30am in cold winter morning, it would be -10 degree c outside. Drink coffee, listen to their song, forget about cold and focus on studies. I had no heating but their music gave me warmth. Good times

Innocence Mission is so wonderful. I got to see them live @ a book store show (with a couple other bands) in Columbus Ohio in the mid 90's. Karen was so sweet, kind & seemed an ethereal Angel. She took time to meet, talk, sign autographs & take pictures with whomever wanted. I've been a fan since 1988 & will be a fan forever.

I've loved their music since the first time I heard it over 30 years ago. They are the most beautiful, gentle souls which their music delicately confesses. So grateful for their life-saving, life-giving golden songs.
In 1989, I bought their first album on audiocassette (remember those?). The following year, I was thrilled to find that they were performers on the first day of the 1990 Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, and caught their performance there. They were largely electric then, and their good vibes and shimmering sound completely won over a crowd of enthusiastic festival goers who were being exposed to IM’s music for the first time. People who were not familiar with IM were entering the festival grounds, being gobsmacked and saying “Who is THAT?!” then crowding to the stage where they were performing. Awesome concert memory.

that's truly their greatest achievement in my opinion. a 10" single, that must be rare. I was still buying records in the late 80s and have their s/t on 12", and of course I bought the CD years later. the songs, the production, the angelic otherworldliness, that voice--they should've been absolutely massive

Their last two albums are every bit as good as their 90's heyday. But among the best was Umbrella from '91, still in some sort of CD and MP3 embargo since I had to get it used off eBay 15 years ago. What's up? Check out "Evensong".
Umbrella is probably my favorite album of theirs and yeah, I was shocked to see it was not available through the primary streaming outlets recently. Not sure why… When the urge struck to listen to it a few weeks ago, I was prepared to dig through my attic, and find a cassette or CD of it and digitize it myself - but before it came to that 😂 I was able to find an unofficial playlist for the album right here on TH-cam. 🎉 I highly recommend everyone track that down if you’re a fan, but have not heard it. Or not for 25 years or so!
I had a job where the the radio was always tuned to a classic rock station that for some reason played 'And Hiding Away' from the Umbrella album repeatedly. I loved it but it sure was hard to find out name & artist. I subsequently purchased the album on cassette not knowing what a door to musical paradise I was opening.
There is a song that's been in my head recently that I could've swore was by them and I've yet to find it. No one else sounds her. Not even Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays and she's close.
I am reviewing my songs to vote for WXPN’s 885 best songs by women. I know I have to put Karen Peris on that list, and high at that. Right up there with Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Laura Marling. I thought about the multitude of older Innocence Mission songs I love, but I’m going with Green Bus. It’s a masterpiece.

I live about an hour from Lancaster, but work in Lititz which is in Lancaster County. Karen and Don seem to have a bit of the "Pennsylvania Dutch" accent going on there. You'll typically hear this type of accent from the farmers and Amish out that way. They must have picked that up as youngsters growing up there and I guess it just stayed with them?
She is the 2nd vocalist in "When they ring the golden bells" by Natalie Merchant. In this song, "Karen Peris" has the ability to offset the pitch to make this an immortal song to the hearts of listeners who dub themselves as imperfect gods.
