I always kind of felt sorry for her in the 90s anime. It was like she just wanted a friend but would kill anyone who she touched. I wonder if she is like a metaphor for something, or someone cursed her?
Moomin Valley is that fairy tale idealized version of what the socialist agenda teaches the dimwitted into believing as a true way of living. Even the Amish have a capitalist aspect to their society, so the whole 'true socialist' narrative is a dream only workable in a fictional story.
The opening theme and the Moomin stories always put me in a good mood, they have warm, friendly, homely feeling, especially when I'm feeling down, thanks for uploading!
Yeah. And you know what? I encountered Moomin at the age of ten, and found the Groke a figure of sympathy, not fear The word has passed into my everyday speech ie. 'gerraway, you Groke', 'I feel grokely; etc. It's a great sustitute for swearwords, I find. [I'm nearly 70]
HOLY SHIT! I very vaguely remember watching this in Poland. I had to be 2-3 years old. When the Groke thing killed the butterfly literally gave me a very weird flashback!
Huh... As an English-speaking person This is exactly how I remembered it, if it was in the original how then could you market the program, its like saying the magic roundabout should have never been translated in English
@@UltimateFarter--007 I tried searching, but mostly I found polish translation of the Japanese version. I don't speak Polish, but just curious how it sounds.
Tufslan and Vifslan think the ruby's value lies in its beauty and the joy it brings. The Groke sees only it's monetary value, and is willing to intimidate others to get it, and eventually trades it for another very expensive object.
I must have watched this at some point shenbi was younger, but I have no clue wtf I would have seen it. It's like some weird fever dream of things I recognise but don't really remember
The Moomins (Originally: Opowiadania Muminków/Die Mumins) - Poland/Austria, 1977-82 (TV series). The Japanese versions were made prior to this. The animation here is clearly in the Germanic style.
I remember this stop motion show! The Groak freaked me out! I saw this in English too on my TV. I can't remember what channel this was on. It was a while ago. I never saw the other Moomins show that was 2D animation but I remember this stop motion one. I think the other Moomins show was animated by a Japanese animation company.
... I was so scared by this version of the momins years ago ... it is still scary ... It is like they have twisted the story into a horrible nightmare... .. . But really nice to see it again though !!
Groke seems to be a spirit of winter. Perhaps in the shows native europe, where winters are bitterly cold, people would dislike the groke... But here in Australia, I personally despise the extreme heat, and love what cold we get in winter and autumn. The heat miser from the rudolph cartoons is a more appropriate weather spirit to despise IMHO.
Funny, I still remember the answers from my childhood. The suitcase contains the King-Ruby (symbolizing hidden love), and the hat belongs to Trollkarl, the Magician (mistakenly translated as the Hobgoblin, here).
@clintrock it was the "king ruby". the most valuable ruby in the world. it belongs to groke and was meant to be a present from her to the hoobgoblin or the wizard as i call him.
I'm only fourteen, and I'm from Canada, so I'm pretty sure I never watched this as a child and if I did I certainly do not remember doing so. But I saw a tumblr post mentioning how scary 'The Groke' was, so I looked (what I believe to be a her?) up and she's(?) not that bad. Kind of cute, actually.
“Nobody likes the groke”
I LOVE HER!!!! She’s scary but she’s certainly not evil
The Groke is, and will always be, one of my favorite characters in anything ever.
2:59 _"Nobody likes The Groke!"_
_I disagree, because I like her._
@x ᴀᴋᴇᴍɪ ʜᴏᴍᴜʀᴀ x the groke is Awful and horrifying.
Cold, disgusting, but scary
I always kind of felt sorry for her in the 90s anime. It was like she just wanted a friend but would kill anyone who she touched. I wonder if she is like a metaphor for something, or someone cursed her?
@@pickles3128 curse of loneliness
No one can even touch her to comfort her
me too i love the groke as well
Ah, yes. The Groke brings a true horror upon Moomin Valley:
Capitalism.
Moomin Valley is that fairy tale idealized version of what the socialist agenda teaches the dimwitted into believing as a true way of living.
Even the Amish have a capitalist aspect to their society, so the whole 'true socialist' narrative is a dream only workable in a fictional story.
I prefer the stalker Groke that kills everything she touches over the capitalist male groke
yes hidden back story is a mutant from S.T.A.L.K.E.R
What capitalism has to do with this lol
@@kipras4699 The joke here IS that The groke IS greedy.
I loved this when I was a kid, I found it really mysterious and at the same time very comforting...
Although I don't find The Groke scary at all, I am happy to see this is among one of the most adorable stop-motion animations I've ever seen.
I love this short. Especially Sniff's movements at 02:26.
lol, classic stop animation antics..
"But nobody likes the Groke!" THAT'S THE GAL OF MY DREAMS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT
lol, I cosplayed the Groke at Anime Expo 2014
Were aré the photos my dude ?
I'd just say "forget it! Take the suitcase! Just get away from me!!
The opening theme and the Moomin stories always put me in a good mood, they have warm, friendly, homely feeling, especially when I'm feeling down, thanks for uploading!
Cant really decide which one is scarier, the Groke or the Devil-eyed Hemulen...
Hated the cartoon version after remembering this so well from the early 80s...!!!! Loved this version!
1:49 The narrator dub sounded like he was trying to be sympathetic when the butterfly froze
The Groke looks like the offspring of a duck-billed platypus and Cher.
The Groke reminds me of The Babadook but abit less terrifying.
You've got to be kidding me, how can anyone prefer the cartoons over these amazing creations! The cartoons just don't have any soul.
Love it thanks for posting it!!!! A really gentle program!
1:09 Sniff the judge loool :')
1:45 Poor butterfly :'( 🦋
4:28 I love how fast Moomin and Snufkin attended to their butterfly :")
Between this and the Bunyip Song, it'll be a miracle if I ever sleep again.
Thanks Cracked. I HAD hoped I'd be able to sleep tonight. So much for that hope.
I love this animation it's like 2D/3D mixed :D
drakey poo it's stop motion .
The Groke is based af.
2:23 literally sent a chill down my spine.

I feel like without the original sound design it just isn't the same...
As a polish citizen i can agree

Is the polish version online?

Great that they made a trial like in the book :)
Just because the Groke is considered unlikeable does not mean that she doesn’t deserve justice!
i think it´s lovely and cool.
all the moomins´stuff is awesome.
I would've been traumatized for life if THIS was the Groke that I saw as a kid.
I am so intensely disturbed. Thanks, Cracked.
In Swedish books the Groke is referred to as "she". I know as I own the books :)
So... the Groke is like an evil, ugly, Grimace-looking Elsa?
omg the Groke is super scary! When i first saw the groke he was creepy!!!! but i still love this series
+REBECCA MAY The Groke is a she.
She sounds like a screechy old lady.
Groak 😳

Yeah, Mindchop said this was disturbing.... This isn't disturbing. Even for a kid. This would only bother me unless I was high
Holy shit why is this version of the groke so terrifying
1:43 dear Mary Mother of god
idk why the Moomins never got localized out in north america. seeing merchandise of them online makes me want them but some are expensive X[
snufkins such a rocker
we love him so
1:52 Snorkmaiden sounds like she could honestly care less lol
Remember watching this as a child and i am 35 now and the groke still frightens the shit outta me especially at 2:23 scary as fook ha!
thank you so much. It was driving me crazy not knowing the answer. Why would they just leave a kid at a cliff hanger like that.
Glad its not just me who was traumatised as a child by the Terrible Groke - just as sinister as I remembered!

They should put this back on tv! (at night time, just for adults) lol.

Oh just give the Reaper his bloody suitcase. Some things just aren't worth it.
When it's not smiling like it wants to eat your face off, it reminds me of the Yoshi Island penguins. Except with more death surrounding it.
The Groke was damn scary. I grew up watching this in the early 80's.
The Anime version years later was also good.
the groke used to scare the friggin crap out of me. still does.
As I know, this version of Moomin was made in my city :)
But when I was a kid, on TV was only the Japanese version.
The hippos' heads look like gigantic beans with googly eyes.

i loved this show!! still do haha
You don't negotiate with the Groke, Jackie. You cower in fucking fear of it and pray it goes away.
Narration in the British version is brilliant.
The cartoon didnt come till later.. This is the original tv show. all animated and was alot more dreamy and to be honest some episodes were scary...
That is kind of creepy.....
Where can I find music similar to the theme music of this series? It's lovely.
I agree the animated versions are poor compared to these versions.. I remember watching these as a child.. Far superior!!! :)
The Groke is creepy as hell. yet the voice actor doesn't give shit
I'm a bit suspicious about that... After all, she was clearly happy to walk away with the hat.
So, what was in the suitcase? Don't leave us in suspense, dammit!
Cos it's impervious to bullets. I imagine it would just stop and do that thing where it slowly turns around and advances between frames.
Im surprised i didn't get nightmares from this
I'm surprised I don't get nightmares from the current crop of TH-cam 'influencers'.
Honestly same? I was five when I watched these.
I was expecting this to be scarier...
@1FishJelly Yeah. But animation is polish. It was animated in Poland by polish studio.
I watched it and somehow there was a very creepy melody when the Groke appears.
Sarah It's the Moomins dude, it's for 3-7 year olds. For them, it is pretty fricking scary.
So beautiful
Well...It seems as if somebodys visting my nightmares tonight
So that's the Groke's voice in English
So this Is 3d objects on panes of glass correct?
The polish animation
Truly terrifying.
Lol, popped some cherries into it...
But the real Groke doesn't breath ice, just the ground she walks on becomes ice.
Until the Groke breaks character.
What was in the suitcase? And how do cherry's turn into ruby's when placed in a hat...
So much pity for the Groke.
The Groke MUST be related to the dementors somehow.
omg i was terrified of this as a child now i just find it funny lol
hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahaha
