Anything that can take away from the "chance" of opening packs is really disheartening. Even if someone didn't weigh the packs, it'd still be nice for TPCI to get rid of the different color code cards or the /redeem vs /tcgo.

We have been hearing a ton about the face that Fusion Strike can be weighed. We still love opening the set and would recommend getting sealed prodcut over loose packs.

@@DrApplesauceTwo Actually, this is the point of 2 different code cards. Pokemon TCG has had 2 different code card weights for a while. Foil cards are inherently lighter than paper cards. The heavier code card is supposed to go into the Foil packs to even out the weights. I think the printers just messed up and put the wrong card in the wrong packs.
I’m not surprised with Pokémon company at this point. They’re dumping a huge amount of product out of nowhere during the holiday season, when it has been difficult to to get boxes for MSRP all year. Now new booster boxes are $25 less than Retail all of the sudden.

It's the code cards. I weighed the code cards after weighing packs. The black boarders are around 1.32-1.36g the white boarders are 1.8x grams

I don’t know to be honest we’re talking about a 10th of a gram over 36 packs so if variance of maybe 30 or 40 g total?
Actually a total variance of around 3.6 grams. Not a super noticeable difference in the human hand, but could be a clear difference on a scale... unless TPCi Goes back and somehow measures and wraps the lighter boxes with slightly more plastic.
Interestingly I weighed the packs from my booster box as i was curious about the new code cards as well. My lowest weight was 22.40g (2nd lightest being 22.44g) and heaviest being 22.58g. my results were not as conclusive as yours. All my hits were in the range of 22.44g - 22.53g, with only 4 packs overall being being outside that range which did not have hits at all. so my box was not really weighable from my test. makes me wonder if its somehow dependent on where the cards were printed.

Pokémon company may have become aware of this because two days ago I opened a booster box and every VMax and the alternate Mew and rainbow Schoolboy I pulled came from a pack with a white code card in it. I also pulled holos from packs with white cards and also got non-holo rares from packs with black codes.
Maybe they did!
I've been doing this weighs on my own and learned that the lighter white code card are hit potential vs heavier slack code cards

I did this with a build and battle stadium (12 packs) and 10 of them were heavy with 2 being light, I opened them all and the heavy 10 were non holo while the 2 packs was a holo and a V card. So they made a set with alot of cards, low pull rates and the packs can be weighed. Quality control is really going to sh*t, I dont blame them though since Pokemon is in high demand they are probably working non stop. They could probably be printing Brilliant stars and the set after and reprinting stuff to keep up with the demand.
I weighed mine. The lighter packs have hits in them. Heavy weight had none.

Tip:
Place a small cup (preferably a medicine measuring cup) on the scale to use as a raised base…
Hit “Tare” to zero the scale…
Place your boosters on top of the cup to weigh them…
That’ll stop a lot of that “Fluctuating” when trying to get an accurate weight.
Source: I’ve weighed TONS of dollar store packs and found that to be effective in getting an accurate weight. 😅

Its bullshit you cant weight them i tried yesterday. And calculated all cards. Normal cards weight 1.85g, v cards weight 2.01g. Code cards weight 1.44 and 1.6 so they compensate perfectly

why is it so complicated....since 1996 its been happening and they haven't figured it out. The simplest way is to randomize the placement of code cards...someone correct me if I'm wrong
Or use the same card stock like they have with all the other sword and shield sets
@@DrApplesauceTwo But if they use 1 uniform code card it can still be weighed heavy or light. With a mixed or 3-4 different weights of cards, if they randomize where they put them, it would near impossible to weigh and pick out the hits imo
If you do a extra code card or not in the packs you simply could use a measuring stick 🤷🏻♂️

My white code cards were heavier than the dark ones. I weighed them by themselves just the code cards and there was a difference in weight.

This is very interesting. However, maybe pokemon plans to mix it up with each print wave or each set and make the code cards weigh all sorts of different so what might work right this second, or in this region, it might not work later on or in another region. (Let us hope. . .)

I saw someone post that their FS booster box only had 1 “hit”. I was in disbelief and upset that pokemon would allow such robbery to happen. Like there should be a minimum of 7-8 “hits” There’s always room for improvement so I hope they take us into consideration.

I opened mine and had HUGE hits in mine. I gold card, full art trainer, vmax cards and V with lots of holos

you can get these easily on amazon, fine calibration weight scale, up to 200g most of the time. they are pretty cheap too

@@DrApplesauceTwo Maybe it was a problem with a single print run where the printer messed up and TPCi already sorted it. @rayspeed when/where did you buy your boxes? and @Dr. Applsauce Two Where did the box in the video come from? There are frequently product quality discrepancies across print runs for any card game.
I feel like they should put holo cards in the white code card packs to balance the weight
I got the same results all black are halo rares and white non halo rare. I got 4 regular blisters and 2 check lane blisters. 2 halo rares Deoxys, Landorus and one appleturn v. The white code cards weigh heavier and the black ones weigh less. The check lane ones were duds. This wants me to not buy anymore and I'm skeptical about the ETB's from Fusion Strike. Maybe I just buy the other Evolving Skies ETB. I might just stick with the 3 pack blister packs or just collect the other sets, like Celebrations, Evolving skies. You should try regular blister packs, the 3 pack ones, the one pack check lane and ETB for results.
Makes me sad but very thankful you discovered and discussed.
I wish I had a super power to weigh packs with my hands 😩. There’s a ton of vendors at frank and sons that sell packs from an opened booster box. It would make the gamble more rewarding lol.

This is crazy but it works only in the english version of Pokemon. In the Italian packs there's not a difference between the codes, there is no white or black, so i don't know if it's possible to weigh italian packs. Let me know!! Nice video.

This is no different than like Vivid Voltage where the green code cards were the giveaway. Now we know it’s the white ones.
It's true! My card had a white card and I got nothing but a reverse holo gossilfeur beware!
To your end point about the card stock of the two different types of code cards, I think the entire idea of the different colored code cards is that one is heavier to offset the difference between a dud pack and a hit pack. Clearly not enough work was done to make sure the new dud pack code cards are weighted properly to even out the pack weights, and instead the white code cards are made too heavy. Just another example of the poor quality control. I did see some videos that showed checklane blisters are all about the same weight, so those seem to have been made different. I have a booster box on the way and some checklane blisters here, and once I have everything, I am going to do some weighing.
Yep! I think the best solution with these new code cards would be to have three or four different card stocks that are used for both of the different colors of code cards creating 6 to 8 different variations of the code cards

White border cards weigh 1.64g, black border cards weigh 1.32g
I've literally stopped buying packs from retail locations for this very reason. Bought a few packs directly from pokemon retailer online, got an alt art rapid strike urshifu in my 3rd pack. It's sad to admit, but it's safer to buy direct.

@@sagegrookey5220 Don't worry about the Bilsters sold at stores, they are glued inside cardboard, and I highly doubt someone is opening every pack and weighing them. lol. I was worried myself after buying 50 so I did some research.
Wonder if its a simple screw up of putting the code cards in the wrong packs, someone should test weighing the packs with the opposite code card type to see if they even out on weight.

You can actually feel this just by lifting them up, it's a damn shame because my local card shop opens booster boxes and the packs have been picked through. But fusion strike has some of my favorite card art I've seen in awhile..I buy them by the unopened booster boxes now.

Guess it wasn't just me. 8 blister packs I bought ranged from 22.3-22.6, the 22.3 area was Holo or better. Just got my booster box today, range was 22.20-22.36. the 22.3+ was holo or better as well. Also weighed the code cards.
For white borders, average weight is 1.4g from BB, 1.6g from blister. Black borders, 1.26g from BB, 1.4g from blister. No idea why they'd be different. Overall, 22.3-22.39 is hit range, from my findings.
@@scottrusty5804I wasn't collecting during sun & moon, so idk too much about it. I haven't opened up my .20s range yet from my bb except the lowest and highest point to know where cut off was. And it's like 25+ packs left. Idk when I'm gonna open them, with the like 90% fear of they'll all be no hits.
@@scottrusty5804 That was the case for my blisters, since 22.3 was the lowest. For BB, 22.31-22.37 were hits for me. 22.30 ±.01 stopped being hits after trying like two 22.3±.01. 22.37 was the heaviest from bb

Bro, I was half way through opening my fusion box while watching TH-cam videos and stumbled upon your video. Weighed the rest of the packs and what you showed is absolutely true. I didn't have any 22.22gms.6 packs weight between 22.30 and 22.39 with all black cards. Anything above 22.45 are all white cards. Damn..now I have to think if I want to open the 2nd box I have. I bought a lot of single packs without knowing this and 90% of the time no hits. Even my target employee confirmed that someone was weighing all the packs day before I purchased. Luckily I didn't purchase large quantity single packs.

i called it before release day when i had my packs in advance.. the code cards dont vary enough in weight to offset the difference between cold packs and hits

This makes me just stand by my opinion that buying singles is the way to go. You want/need cards for deck building etc just buy singles guys. You know what's coming that way...so disappointing smh.
What makes it lighter? is it the holo material is lighter than the paint they would use?
The code cards. They used different card stock for the two differnt code cards.
To the best of my knowledge: The holo material is lighter. Holographic effects are usually made using a tiny sheet of aluminum, which replaces the amount of paper that would have been occupying the same space. Aluminum is about 30 g/sq meter less dense (ie. lighter) than paper, and cardstock is just thick paper. The reason TPCi has had green and white code cards for years now (and the reason they always correspond to hits or NOT) is because the code cards are made 2 different weights, to help offset the weight difference in holo and non-holo packs. In order for this to work though, the HEAVIER code cards are supposed to go with the FOILS. It seems in Fusion Strike that the flimsy, less thick card ("black card" in the video) was placed in the packs with the already lighter cards. Addendum: To answer the original question: yes. The holo material is lighter that what would be in a normal (non-foil card).
