Having seen first hand what happens to a heroin addict who is admitted to hospital I can say I understand why he wanted to take some before going by ambulance. In the hospital he would receive NO methadone until a local drug rehabilitation center can send out a worker, usually 2-3 days, then they would titrate him very slowly. Because it's hospital policy his dose would also be split between morning and evening. So by day 4 he might, might have 10mls in the morning and 10mls in the evening. Most addicts need at least 70mls to stop withdrawal symptoms. If he was already prescribed outside then his existing prescription will be issued in the hospital by day 2-3 but again split between morning and evening even though the person will be used to having it in one go every morning so will feel sick all day every day (these withdrawal symptoms: sneezing, cramps, running eyes and nose etc also put the body under great strain when the person is sick anyway) until their evening dose!

By giving him Narcan they put the poor guy into immediate withdrawal. They should have given him a smaller dose.
He probably knew he’d be waiting for hours in A&E to be stitched up despite the concern of the paramedics.
Average wait time is 5 hours, more in some areas.
The physical and mental pain of Heroin withdrawal is worse than a physical stab wound.

That’s just not true it would be sent over in an couple of hours if he was in a prescription. And I. Hospital they would have given him morphine if he was in pain and withdrawing you don’t know what your are taking about. And they don’t spilt doses with methadone 🙄 Starting dose is 30mg. 40 next day.

It's stupid giving him that, it puts you in full withdrawal, of course he wants to fix that. He'd have been fine without that... It may be hard for straight members to grasp, but it is truth. Prey you never have to go full withdrawal

Literally tho. The guy was sat up, basically communicating. And any heroin addict will know an OD is far from sat up talking. It’s a full blown seizure, it’s dropping to the ground n being paralysed, etc. they literally done him so dirty giving him the narcsn. And I’m sure they fully knew that in the first place

Its a shame. We don't know the people's lives so we cannot judge them.

If you never bin adited to enything you poserbuly could not understand once narcan is given your thrown strate in to withdrewals so you got the pain your all redy in times a 100 thay could of narcan him if he was not responsive at the hospital i was a heroin adict for over 33 years im from stoke im now over 2 year clean no body wants to become a drug adict its a trap we fall in to by makeing a stuped bad idea at the time i trewly hope this guy gets all the help and can tren is life around

You shouldn't give Naloxone (Narcan) to someone who is responsive, not only did they make the man feel really unwell from withdrawals which was unnecessary & why he wanted to use more heroin but they also made the situation more difficult for themselves. Should have just monitored him and kept him awake, it would be no different to giving someone pain medication such as morphine, "addicts" deserve pain relief too!

I mean did they not do it due to the amount of blood he had lost, it wasnt a typical situation where you only narcan somebody if theyre overdosing
