    Stumbled on your TH-cam while searching for fun activities for my husband who became suddenly severe low vision in 2019. He was an active gigging musician before losing his sight, and with an eSight headset he has begun to read music and play trombone in a community band for seniors, but it is not the level of skill he once had. Still, it is great to be among old friends and make music again. He was an avid golfer and has been to the driving range a few times and still has good skills, so friends are going to help him play this year. He was an award winning pastel artist before vision loss, but he has not been able to get started painting again. Your idea about trying pottery has merit for him. We just got a puppy and he will be involved in training classes. Already, by carrying the puppy in public to socialize it, he has made many new acquaintances! Vision loss is so isolating, this puppy is going to be a great, natural way to interact with people. He walks 4-5 miles for fitness most days and carries an identification cane for safety if alone. He took a year of online instruction to learn Tai Chi for visually impaired to improve balance and strength and it has really helped him have fewer falls! He really enjoys it and now practices at least 3 hours a week using DVDs on a big screen to guide his further learning. He always loved to cook, especially smoking and grilling. With help from a Low Vision Therapist he learned knife safety and many tricks in the kitchen to help him get cooking again. He uses a talking thermometer quite a bit too. His Grilled Salmon recipe is so delicious! He makes wonderful steaks, crusty outside but tender and moist inside. His pulled pork is a staple at family gatherings. I help to make sure the pulling is complete because that is still hard for him. I am not a brisket fan, but he makes versions so juicy and tender that I am starting to get addicted! So while I came to see what more he could try, I realize he has a pretty full leisure schedule already. I am looking for a game he could enjoy. We used to play MahJong weekly with a group, but that is hard with his vision. I am learning cribbage and we have a giant cribbage board. He played in college, but enjoyed the speed of the game, and doesn't think he will be able to keep up. We are setting up a cribbage date with a LV friend we met through his LV/Blind Spt group so we will give it a try.

      That’s so awesome! Yes, make sure to look into tactile games! Lots of card games, board games options and they even have a tactile rubix cube now! You could also try Goal Ball which was deigned specifically for people with a vision impairment! The sky is the limit 🥰

    I have gotten into fitness(weight lifting, hit cardio, fitness challenge classes, a running class, etc.).I actually did a 5k a couple months ago and had someone follow me on a bike who gave me directions(where to turn, problem terrain alerts, collision avoidance, etc.).

    Hi, I lost my sight 6 years ago. Until then I started making leather wallets and backpack, I also in cheese making, and home brew alcohol, liquors, beer and wine. I am also in BB gun shooting, with special audio equipment for blind sharpshooter. To be honest only sky is the limit. I know also a blind woodturner, he has a TH-cam channel theBLindWoodturner. I am in love in making stuff. I am also an HAM operator, I am using Kenwood TS 590S with voice prompts. I have my TH-cam channel, and last year I started psychology studies to help people that struggle with loosing sight. Nice movie. Thanks

    I'm one-eyed, and visually impaired (glaucoma). I design stuff and cut it with CNC mill. I also did some TH-cam videos with VFX (I'll be doing more of that in near future). I also fix and build electronics, despite the fact I often have to use soldering iron by feel. I also do some photography from time to time, including editing. And to help others visualize, how bad is my sight, while I'm writing this on my PC, with 19" 1440x900 monitor, my nose is actually about 0,5-1,5cm ( about 1/4-1/2 of an inch) away from the screen...
    I stumbled upon this video while looking for some PC games I could play, as I no longer can play Warframe...

    What if you're totally blind and that you have an interest in baking and pastry from scratch?. There has to be work arounds. People in the field will say, that there are not. Great video and thank you for all that you are doing! Yoga is an amazing activity! Instructors are usually very descriptive and provide primarily verbal queues in class. I usually give them a heads up that I'm visually impaired and then they know to help me a little more if they see me doing something funny lol. It's a great way to move your body, get rid of stress, and also be part of such a supportive community . Highly recommend!

    I'm not blind or visually impared, but when I get migraines I become extra sensitive to light and cold light tones. Sometimes tinted glasses works to minimise the pain, however, sometimes I just want to close my eyes, or even put a blanket over my head. Nevertheless, what stopps me from doing so is that most things I tend to do to keep myself bussy are dependent on sight and I don't know what to do to not be too bored without my sight. Any tips?

    • @OntheFritz
      @OntheFritz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, great question! First I do want to say to please make sure you take care of yourself and take time to rest and recover :) Cold compresses over your eyes while laying in a dark room/taking a nap really help me. Second, your question! I do have some ideas if you get bored waiting on your migraine to go away. You could try listening to your favorite music, audio books are great and don't require sight and they have all different genres, and podcasts! You could learn a new language this way! For more hands on, I would suggest pottery or modeling clay, or even learning how to play an instrument. Instruments rely on feel, feel of where to place fingers and feel of the beat/mood!

    • @thewakinghat
      @thewakinghat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OntheFritz Thank you for your answer! I haven't thought about the idea of putting cold compressions on my eyes, but that would probably be nice. I usually do crafty stuff, like sewing, knitting, or painting but I'm afraid to do something wrong without my sight, but trying something compleatly new like sculpting might work 🤔 Then I'm not as worried to do wrong, since, I also would fail a lot with my sight 😅

    • @OntheFritz
      @OntheFritz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thewakinghat yes cold compresses work so well! The cold causes the blood vessels to shrink, improves circulation, numbs pain and minimizes swelling! They have some gel eye masks at the dollar stores and WalMart that I really like, I just keep them in the freezer and when I get a migraine or need to rest my eyes from light sensitivity. I just grab one, put it on, and rest for about 30 mins or take a nap with it on if it’s a migraine. Sculpting would be great! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! That’s how we learn and grow 😁

    • @thewakinghat
      @thewakinghat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi space like doing crafts the title like Clay and his pottery and origami of course because it's so cool feeling I like doing stuff like snowflakes are flowers by using scissors to cut the shapes out of the paper it's really fun especially like woodworking as well and being able to tell which one is one it's fun, especially love my sports the music is always help me too specially painting I guess I'm happy to be someone that likes doing activities who knows maybe us getting out of our comfort zone is a good thing. I want to say thank you for opening my eyes to tell me what activities I can still do I want to say thank you my question is how does someone who cannot see to take a picture that's my question just curious. And thank you for describing the picture that the artist does that is cool.

      Hiya! Yes all of those can be so fun! I personally believe that the blind or visually impaired can have a very interesting and unique way of “looking” at the world because we have to use our other senses more than others so we might pay attention to something a little more than someone with sight and that would be a great picture! 😉 I’ve included an article that goes into how someone who is blind or visually impaired can take pictures! I hope this helps! chicagolighthouse.org/sandys-view/taking-pictures/
