I don't understand people praising gmail nightmare. It could be easier to use for a non professional casual individual but for professional use, when you need to sort many emails from differents subjects, there nothing better than outlook rules which sort automatically the emails in the right folders. I'm working for a company using Gmail nowadays, if IT would allow it, I would pay my own licence for outlook if I could get rid off gmail.

I'm curious what you're not able to accomplish in gmail than you can in Outlook. I've been an Outlook user since it came into existence, but now that Microsoft is abandoning proper desktop Outlook, I don't see any reason to keep using it. I also use gmail, and I've been able to filter and sort similarly and have never run into anything I CAN'T do in gmail that I do in Outlook. So, before I abandon Outlook (which I'm about to do), I'd really like your thoughts. Thank you.

@@gerawan You cannot create rules which sort your mail automatically. Search bar is way less efficient than outlook one (you find e-mails which have nothing to do with the search). These two points are the main ones and for someone sending around 60 mails per day (nothing crazy), finding a particular e-mail when looking on gmail is way longer than it is in outlook. A company going to gmail will lose more money than they save just with above two points. I won't talk about option menu which look like a word document or poor ergonomics which are I guess a subjective preference.

@@brunoteixeira4974there are filters which can sort emails based on some criteria.

@@brunoteixeira4974This is literally not true. Have you ever taken more than 2 seconds to dive into the Gmail settings (not even mentioning all extensions available)? Automatically filtering and organising, creating multiple specialized inboxes is all there. Personally I also think the labeling system is far superior to the folder structure MS offers. You could use it as a classic hierarchical system, but also use multiple labels on a single mail thread. It is kind of like the Outlook categories, but on steroids.

In the 1990s Microsoft had useability labs: this way, they invented the tooltip (on discovering that users wished they could find out what the icons were for). Their software's reputation was, "Powerful but easy to use" and "best at hiding the complexities". Somewhere along the line, they stopped focusing on this. Then it became a distant memory. Now it's ancient history.

I'm currently thinking about deleting my current email and starting over again, because I've literally had this email address for years and it just seems like a safe thing to do to start over again and keep whatever accounts I have tied to this email address I can. There's one big problem though, my google account and my xbox account are both tied to my current email address. Any advice from anyone?
also, is there a way to open a gmail account and keep using this google account with it?

Uh, maybe there's something wrong with me, but... My Outlook Desktop client is working fine. I can log in to it, I don't have a business/school account, just Office 365 Personal. And everything works, like I can even add Gmail there.

@@DemetriPanici I just tried to send an email from my gmail while using my premium office 365 personal desktop app. The email had 3 attachments , all 1 page max , and I got a message that said it was too large to send . Am I doing something wrong or is the outlook system truly antiquated ? What do you recommend ?

    • @gerawan

FYI: Microsoft is abandoning Outlook desktop client. They haven't said when exactly, but within 1-3 years it will be gone. PST files will be history too. If you've tried "New" Outlook, then you can see that it has a mere fraction of the features and functionality of Outlook desktop. Sure, before MS gets rid of desktop Outlook they will add more features to "New" Outlook, but it will never be anywhere close to desktop Outlook. Other third-party desktop apps will be closer to desktop Outlook than "New" Outlook will ever be.
So, unless you're in some corporate environment where they're stuck on Microsoft, then I don't see any advantage to Microsoft anymore. To me, Gmail seems more nimble and at least as capable as Microsoft's email options.
I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on this, since before I abandon Outlook, I want to make sure I've accounted for everything. Thank you.

@@Shaggyspider What I do is leave the attachments on Outlook OneDrive; if you use Gmail leave them on Google Drive. Within the email I share links to those files. When the recipient receives the email with links they can click open and read it, and if desired download the files. The advantage for me the sender is I am not worried about the "too large" notice, and the recipient's inbox does not become with large files. Hope this helps you.

I've tried and failed to get used to outlook every other year for 6 years, lmao. Whenever I try to integrate outlook into my workflow everything comes to a screeching halt, it is bar none the worst user experience I've ever struggled with. I'd literally rather access my emails from a CLI. Good thing my work centers on making stuff instead of staring at my inbox all day 🙃.

Forced move to GMail right now. The fact that cal and email is not integrated as one app (whether it is fed from the web or not) is the worst. Don't need the MS apps anymore, rarely use Word, more Xcel, but the email/cal integration for Gmail stinks
