The whole German line of destroyers has recently received a buff to it's high explosive penetration which I personally feel it really needed and makes replaying the line a much more enjoyable experience. The Z-23 or z23 is the German tech tree tier 8 destroyer in World of Warships and is based on and developed from the Leberecht Maass-class destroyers also known as the Zerstörer 1936A type, this ship had larger dimensions and greater firepower compared to her prototype. She received 150mm main gun mounts, but retained the torpedo armament of her predecessor. The Z-23 really feels like a strong upgrade from its predecessor Leberecht Maass, Tier 8's Z-23 is similar in many ways but sees slight improvements in several key areas. What immediately stands out is the ability to mount the concealment upgrade allowing Z23 to reach a detection range of 6.2 km when combined with camouflage and captain skills. Z23 will still get outspotted by most of the competition but this extra concealment is a big improvement on the Maas. In her stock configuration, Z-23 has exactly the same guns as Maass, but loses a turret. However, like predecessor Ernst Gaede, Z-23 has a choice between between two different calibers of guns: the standard 128mm destroyer guns, or 150mm barrels like those found in the mid-tier German cruisers Konigsberg and Nürnberg. While the rate of fire penalty for the 150mm option is slightly larger than it was for Gaede, note that when combined with the upgraded hull it also adds an additional gun to the forward turret. This makes for a total of 5 guns, compared to only 4 for the 128 mm option, and goes a long way towards restoring her gun power. Finally, the upgraded torpedoes pick up an extra kilometer of range, improving their flexibility. All in all, like her predecessors Z-23 may not quite have the finesse of American or Japanese destroyers, but her durability, hydroacoustic Search and balanced gun and torpedo armaments allow her to adapt to almost any circumstance.
