  • Today (4 August) is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day!
This day is dedicated to celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children throughout Australia. It is a time for families and communities to celebrate the strength, determination, and culture of First Nations children. It is also an opportunity for all Australians to show support and recognise the crucial impact that culture, family, and community play in our children’s lives.
This years theme is “My Dreaming, My Future” when we talk of the Dreaming, we are referring to a non-linear concept that describes First Nations' understanding of the world and its creation. It is shared verbally through stories and passed down over generations.
This year to celebrate both National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day and NAIDOC Week, our ELP children and Kadadjiny Waabiny Moort at Meerilinga Beechboro have been working on a video discussing the importance of their Totem, the Koolbardi (Magpie) and what it means to them. Check it out below!
