  • 'Big Engines' day at the LBLR gala. Great fun on this interesting line which began life as an industrial light railway; half of it travels through a housing estate. It was interesting to see the demonstration of the RB excavator filling the skips and being hauled by the Ruston diesel loco. Filmed by Dave and Tom Waldren

Glad you enjoyed it - a really enjoyable line, and the steep gradients make the locos work. Cheers, Dave

An excellent record of a great day out. Many thanks, Dave and Tom. I love those little industrial diesels. If I ever buy a locomotive (!) it will be one of those. And, of course, I look forward to seeing a Baldwin at Beddgelert. "Big Engines"? Well, actually, the Darjeeling engine is a good size for 2-foot gauge. As for the line itself, I enjoyed those road crossings. It was nice to see that you had shots of all (I think) of them.

Dave, Tom, I really enjoyed this video. I have always wondered what this place looked like. Although it is located close to where my brother lives, I have not been there. Must go some time. Cheers Glen

I remember Redlands Vandyke works. I put the original computer system in there in the early 1980's. Yes lunch in a pub in the village of Heath and Reach.

One other question... Is Ravenglass Light Rail still operating? A friend caught it on VHS some thirty years ago while visiting family, she got me to transfer it to DVD for her, that's how I know of it, so do you know if it's still running? Cheers!(Answered my own question via search engine... great to see Ravenglass & Eskdale still active!)
