Interesting scenes, it was clearly well before the new sea wall was built. The Pacers are a dead giveaway !

I've travelled that line many times, and the sea has washed up over the train carriage. it's a sight to see. Never underestimate the power of nature.

Just to add to the fun trains in those conditions would often stop short of the canopy! Incidently, when Brunel first built the line it dropped along that section - was several feet lower, down on the beach. Sea level was something like 1 ft. lower then. I guess Brunel thought that as most storms come from the west this east facing beach was naturally protected.

@@tonys1636 Well said, the problem nowadays we live such a fast pace of life which gives us sometimes an overload of information so that we take much of that we see literally before making a balanced comment and that is no criticism of you Jim. I noticed this wasn't live only because I have been following the new sea wall construction progress.

Are there any plans to move out the wall all the way along the train tracks? Clearly from what we are witnessing a need exists. Seems pointless to do part of it, and then not the other!

@@Stuartalison All trains in the past could be accessed by wheelchair users, just needed a manually placed ramp into the baggage/parcel van. One just had to remember to carry an empty bottle/shewee when travelling by train if not catheterised, if really lucky the guard would get a drink or snack from the buffet for oneself. Oneself and the chair often had to be carried up and down station stairs by the porters. It was only in the 80's and 90's that access was started to be thought about. Many stations did have a goods lift for the Mail and parcels from a platform to street level, still needed staff assistance though. Stations had staff then.
