Great convo!!! I do think kids would benefit from not having a phone until they are at a certain age or maturity level for sure. Some of the things that pop up on social media are wild 🤦🏾♂️. Keep being you ladies ima fan of the pod!!! 👌🏾
Naturally beauty at its best!❤️ no make up, no cussing , perfectly groomed that's the plus side of not having a phone and getting exposed to social media at a young age😊👌❤️
I have to add... I don't do any social media myself except certain TH-cam videos for informational purposes only. I don't have time for all that drama and i am on a journey as well. I have friends that can't get off of social media but it just draining. I pay attention to politics but don't get too involved. I am more concerned with my children, my personal growth, eating healthy and my Spiritual growth. I am leading by example but my example hasn't always been ideal. Its been a journey of growth and realization, especially after 40. I am in a great place but picking up the pieces of how long it took me to get here and the effects it has had on my children. Your parents are wonderful, unfortunately, like myself, some of us are not as lucky. I do know that everything happens for a reason, my parents struggled but that in turn made me stronger. My childhood was very abusive but i am not a victim. God has His purpose and my struggles have been the root of my strength! Anyway, keep up the good work, we're paying attention ❤
CONGRATULATIONS AND 4.0 🥰 ayeeeee go girl 💕. I truly am so glad we didn’t have cell phones when I was younger. I applaud your parents for waiting till 20, that’s hard but so worth it. I’m 48 and I only enjoy YT. You girl are amazing 😊. I share these videos with my daughters and my son as well. God bless you and I’m glad you popped up on my algorithm. 😊
Congratulations Payton 🎉🎉🎉 on achieving an associate's degree! Your channel is a must-watch for young black children and teens. It's so refreshing and inspiring. I salute and commend both you and your parents for doing such a wonderful job. Your work is truly appreciated in so many ways that you may not fully understand.
It's refreshing to see young people recognize the value of a tech-free childhood, and your parents' wisdom in delaying your exposure to social media has clearly paid off, allowing you to grow intellectually through books and diverse learning experiences. However, while it's commendable to acknowledge the benefits of a phone-free upbringing, the tone here risks sounding condescending to those who grew up differently. It's important to remember that the impact of social media and technology varies greatly depending on how it's used and integrated into one's life. Nonetheless ladies, your perspectives are valuable, and it's inspiring to see you embracing and sharing the lessons you've learned with others-keep spreading this positive message. To Ms. Payton Benion, congratulations on your accompishment by earing your associate's degree, and for earning a 4.0 GPA! You, and Ms. Sophia Benion, continue the powerful work you are doing. Do not quit. You are on to something special. Upward and onward to 100,000 subscribers.
Thank you! And thank you for the constructive criticism. We will try to take you advice and be self-conscious. Thanks for the encouragement and for being here! ✌🏽❤️🪮
This is a major post! Give your child a phone and they have the world in their impressionable heads...24/7. The cell phone is raising your child. Now I see why you ladies are so smart. You grew up reading, doing, talking, exploring, creating, and learnIng how to be social, instead of scrolling all day. God bless you!
Hey y'all! I just subscribed to your channel, mainly for my homeschooled 17 year old Daughter. Im in a battle like most Mother's with social media and everything else these days. Im 48 years old, i have a 27 year old and my 17 year old from my first marriage right outta highschool... That's a whole story I won't get into too deep. It did last 15 years and although i don't believe in divorce, being raised in the church, it became a dangerous situation... I adopted my 12 year old from birth who is my biological Nephew, long story as well. I remarried 10 years ago and we have a 2 year old, again im 48 and my husband is 55. I have made the mistake of getting my Daughter a phone at 15, now i am competing with social media and all of the effects its having on my Daughter. I pulled her out of public school in the 9th grade, for very good reasons. The struggle is real, i feel like i have completely lost her but i know there is more i can do. I do enforce no screen time for her, family activities are like punishment for her lol. My 12 year old doesn't have a phone and i limit his game time. Its been a learning process with learning over the last decade and a half about how harmful social media and screens can be...
As a 38 year old, 39 this month, I hate having a phone and social media. But you do feel out of the loop. But if I was able to have children, they wouldn’t have phones until they were out of the house. Or they’d have the most basic flip phone that couldn’t send or receive messages and definitely didn’t have social media while in school. I hate hearing how kids get into all kinds of horrible things with peers or with horrible adults. I’m trying to be in my phone a lot less and in the Bible a lot more. I’m working to even get rid of streaming services. We spend our lives glued horrible things. I know I have. Y’all are awesome young ladies, please keep yourselves protected. 💗
Cont.. Of course, i was born in the 70's and i did normal kid stuff. I had time and attention for my imagination. I've evolved over the years and value my Spirituality, gardening, grounding, meditation ect.. my Daughter probably think im crazy, all of my Son's value my insight though, 2 year old has the more evolved 'me', he's good. So i just subscribed and just and fyi, my Daughter, along with many other things, is going to watch one video a day from your channel. I told her i am not trying to say you need to be like these young ladies, but please listen to their insights and perspectives. There is a lot of content out there and our connection with others through technology is a good thing, if you utilize it like so. This is the age of information, you can access anything. In my day it was just the library and tv which had its benefits too. I don't want to lose my Daughter to this crazy World, also i want her to come out of her bubble, explore her possibilities and realize her worth. I pour all of the info i can into her but feels like it just irritates her, i wont stop. I do love that you young ladies are her age, she is also African American but bi-racial, mixed mom, black n white, black Dad. She can definitely relate. You two are different from the 'norm' shes exposed to, in a good way. Keep up the good work, you're both an inspiration, my Daughter and I will both be tuning in to your channel!
Thank you and your parents. I love the fact that they were concerned about your well-being. The only social media I have is this TH-cam channel and I am happy. My phone is a phone from before smartphones it has a clock, email, and a calendar. No apps. You know I like to give you a story every time I reply to your post. Last year a lady at my church asked for advice relating to a situation with her daughter. Her daughter 14 years old wanted a top-of-the-line iPhone like her friends. The family could not afford the phone so the girls ran away from home, they had not seen her or heard from her since. From what I have since learned from other families there is a constant battle in the home over TV, video games, and cell phones. This conflict is a big part of modern family life. What a tragedy. Again, best wishes to you all and tell your mom and dad they did well raising you.
First phone was at 15 back in 2010 and it wasn't a smart phone. Just call and text. I mainly used Yahoo messenger to talk to friends. Kids these days are beyond addicted to screens. Bring back reading and playing outside and other extra curriculars. Even as an adult, I have to watch how much time I'm spending with a screen. Love the content ladies!😊
CONGRATULATIONS PAYton!!! lol How godly proud your parents must be! 🎉 I’ve always heard it said “when you get ready to give away your child’s innocence, put a cell phone in their hands“.💔
Congratulations Payton, on getting your Associates Degree. You young ladies have had a very similar upbringing as my family. We didn't have cell phones, back when I was growing up. However, my parents restricted us from doing things that were mainstream. Of course, it was uncomfortable at times. Like you said, though, at the end of the day, we are better off for it. I haven't had a television in over 20 years.
Social media is addicting and I’m glad that I grew up without it and didn’t have to deal with it until my adulthood. I didn’t have my first phone until I was 18. People forget to have a real life because their lives are in their technology. 😢 Congratulations Payton. 🎉
I'm a high school teacher and the darma that comes from the phones is exhausting. Students come to school wanting to fight because of what someone said online the night before.
I don't watch tv. I have Facebook to stay in contact with friends and family and i watch a little TH-cam before i go to sleep but i can put my phone down for hours on end and not even think about it. I had to get a job and buy my own pager ( gave away my age 😂) i never gave my kids phones they had to get jobs and pay for them. We didn't have video games or Internet, my kids played outside. Congratulations Payton! I got mine at 42 after raising all my kids
Iunderstand your parents position. The hard part is my daughter and two sons were gymnast and I did allow them to have a phone at age 14 they were traveling with their mom and I wanted to make sure they always have communication but it was different times. It was not as much social media. And they only had flip phones. Today I would not allow it until they started driving. Continue the great work you guys are doing and continued blessings to you and your families
Our culture does not have such images of black youth as yourself, our Lord add to your parents more. The Lord protect you, watch over you, His face shine upon you and your children's, children forevermore ! 🙏🏾💪🏾🙏🏾
I've had access to all kind of electronics but still read tonnes of books...now mostly on said devices. It's a mindset for some but for many the exposure isn't a good idea. There are even some countries that are addressing the "programmability" of young minds and the impact of gaming and social media.
Yeah. I was just thinking this and now if you don't get a phone until after 20, it is not the norm. We didn't have phones or social media and turned out just fine.
Exactly. I was going to say that. Life was perfectly fine. I"m 44 and didn't have a phone until I was 21. I didn't even care and most people back then didn't have phones in high school. I remember being a freshman in college and it was so simple back then. Alot of colleges don't let freshman have cars so we didn't have cars. We walked and didn't have cell phones and we were all fine.
@@GottaBMePodcast Yes I have been here. You're right. Seeing you young women grow and the knowledge is crazy. Your leaders, family, and friends are guiding you all accordingly. God bless!
Im 45 and i didn't have a cell phone until i was 23 or so. I had a pager but it was just so my mother had access to me. I miss the old days when we had to use our imagination, communicate, be present, etc. I love having my phone but what the devil meant for evil, God meant for good.

I had my first phone when I was 16. And only because I was moving out to go to college. It was a flip phone though. Wow, I feel old now. Just realized that was 19 years ago(2006)😅. Back then social media was a not as toxic and easily accessible. So maybe I can't relate as well. By the way; Congrats on the Associate's degree. If its ok to ask; what's your major?
Flip phone?!? Those were the good old days I’m sure. 😉 Just kidding Thanks for the congrats! I obtained a liberal arts transfer degree and have plans to major in education! Thanks for being here and engaging with us! ✌🏽❤️🪮

Payton Congrats!
What's an Associates degree though?
Thank you! ✌🏽❤️🪮
An associates degree is when you have completed two years of college.
😉 Just kidding
Thanks for the congrats! I obtained a liberal arts transfer degree and have plans to major in education!
Thanks for being here and engaging with us! ✌🏽❤️🪮
@@GottaBMePodcast kudos to you. I taught middle and highschool under a provisional teacher's license while I was studying engineering. Which is why I highly regard folks who see it as their calling. It's a tough job. Rewarding though. Actually, one of my former students called me last week when her mom died cuz she said she needed someone wise and who honestly cares to hear her out. It's moments like these that make it worth it. God Bless you
