@KaesoARhombil Learning an entirely different system that uses touch instead of sight would take time, and a lot of places don't have braille in their translations either way.
@LaCabraAsada The first point is irrelevant, as learning any writing system takes time. Learning a second language takes time as well, but we don't complain about it because it's obvious. Plus, if you were blind, your other senses would be enhanced, as mentioned in the video, since sight is our main perception sense and would need to be replaced if lost. As for the second point, in places that don't have braille, there are apps on mobile devices that are able to narrate irl text, and most devices have narration as an accessibility setting.
@KaesoARhombil I should probably start by stating that I'm not really qualified, I don't know any blind person and I don't know about their experience. Maybe you do and I'm missing something but either way: You're missing the point. Yes, learning a second language is hard. Now imagine you HAD to learn a second language as a _necessity_ and on the meantime you'd have to be dependent on someone else. Now, pulling statistics out of my ass (google chrome), about 10% of blind people knew braille in the US in 2009. Another study in 2016 says that 12% of people know braille in Mexico. (I'll give links if you ask, I just don't want to add them because they create visual noise) Not only that, but both make a point about how a lot of people don't have access to braille institutions and those that do go to schools with insufficient suplies of teachers.
@KaesoARhombil 2- The original commentor's argument was that reading is more comprehensible than hearing. Your second point proves braille won't always be sufficient and that narration will be needed, which the original commentor finds less effective.
I am completely with FC on this one with the why they would rather be blind than deaf. A loved one's voice,to me, can bring comfort and happiness that a view may not provide.
Idk, I'm more the type of person who appreciates a beautiful sight more than a pretty voice or sound. It would suck not ever hearing the glory of the piano again, but it would suck more never being able to see the beauty of nature in general: beaches, the sea, flowers, fields, mountains, all the colourful animals, beautiful decorum, pretty people. The whole world is vibrant and beautiful
Deaf. Recently had minor deafness due to wax buildup in both ears and had to do an eye surgery a while ago which left my eyes very blurry for a while and the blurriness left me a lot more terrified then the hearing loss.
@ Kind of. It was cross linking. 1 of my eyes is significantly weaker than the other. I’m having surgery done on my weaker eye next year but first they wanted to do cross linking on my good eye first so it didn’t risk getting worse. They basically burned off the top layer of my eye and while it was healing it was even worse than my bad eye so i could barely see anything well. I couldn’t really do anything but sit in the dark, listen to some TH-cam videos in the background, fall asleep and occasionally get put drops in. I’ll take not being able to hear over that experience anytime.
Bowl’s name was spoken long before he was born. I personally have spoken his name many times before I even knew he existed. Even after learning about his existence, I still cannot stop myself from saying his name routinely. I think it is safe to say Bowl’s name will still be uttered generations from now, long after all of us are gone. Such a powerful name has the potential to transcend the confines of time and space. Bowl’s legend, Bowl’s legacy, Bowl’s gay.
I’ll take blindness. Being already technically disabled makes the idea of having to rely on others for support less foreign, even if I’d rather not experience that in the first place. Music, the sounds of nature and the world, as well as the voices of friends and family (as FC mentioned) are too important for me to let go despite the cons of blindness.
I'd rather be blind because then I could still make soundtracks for these videos! 1) 00:00 - 00:31; Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Maya Fey ~ Turnabout Sisters 2) 00:43 - 01:14; Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Telling the Truth 3) 01:16 - 02:36; Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright, Pursuit (English Court) 4) 02:46 - 04:18; Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Confess the Truth 5) 04:43 - 05:16; Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Trial 6) 05:42 - 07:58; Phoenix Wright: Justice for All, Trick and Magic 7) 08:11 - 08:53; Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, Kay Faraday 8) 08:58 - 09:56; Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Pursuit 9) 10:09 - 10:36; Phoenix Wright: Justice for All, Great Revival ~ Franziska von Karma (In actuality, I do prefer being blind rather than deaf, but not for the reason I said)
"If I could see the sins of this world but couldn't hear their defense, I would be trapped in a more unforgivable truth." Isn't that how most people live their lives?
Damn, this is a tough question. On one hand, I agree with FC. Hearing the voices of my loved ones will probably mean a lot more to me than being able to see their face. I also feel I’d miss music a lot. On the other hand, adapting to a world of being blind is a lot more difficult. Can’t play video games, cooking becomes hazardous, have to learn braille or subsist on audio books, can’t really draw anymore, a lot of my hobbies are very visually focused. I feel like while being deaf would drive me insane from the silence, being blind means I’d lose a lot of what makes life enjoyable.
Faux taking the stance that they would hate to not be able to hear the people they care about in a video format where most the people in it are cared for and we can't hear them. Bowl, you win again!
Two things I wanna put out there One, I don't think you need to use sight to wipe your butt, speaking from personal experience. Two, the bit about Beethoven reminded me of a homework my music professor had us do. It was about a deaf lady who was a percussionist and she used the vibrations to play whatever percussion instrument. I thought that was interesting.
Both would be hard, but ultimately I'd be losing my entire online stuff, all the games I play, and all of the work I do on the family farm if I lose my sight, not to mention my job being lost. Being deaf would royally suck. I would lose the ability to get myself some music, lose out on communicating orally with people, and life in general would be harder, but I can at least live my life in a way that isn't so drastically different, not to mention the period I would need to adapt to blindness to do literally anything. So yeah, in one case I lose out on things I cherish, but can keep on living my life. In the other case, my life is basically put on hold until I might be able to recover *some* of the aspects of it that I lost. Deafness for sure.
Losing out on talking to people orally wouldn't even be that bad. Most people aren't deaf, so when you make the choice, you know how to talk already. You can still talk to people and they could shake their head or point to something or make a simple gesture without needing to learn sign language. Also phones have the ability to hear what we say and put it into text, so you could just read their responses. I personally couldn't stand the thought of being blind, anyone could listen in on a conversation without you noticing, someone could be trying to kill you from directly in front of you and you wouldn't even be able to tell. Edit: I forgot sounds are vibrations, so you would be able to technically "hear" some things by feeling the vibrations.
FC is real for that Spotify comment. A friend asked me once why I didn't use Spotify "like a normal person" and I responded that I don't see the point since I still get ads and get less songs.
The talk about a blind man being the dream of every woman reminds me of the dichotomy between the lily man and the lunar male in Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber... Food for thought ig.
As a person who had a blind relative who recently passed away, I agree being blind isn’t so bad, this includes deaf as well. Mainly due to the fact that in the end, they’re still who you care for and cherish, being with them alone is enough.
I think the eyes give way more information to work with than ears. Being blind makes u so much more dependent on others around you to just stay alive. While also being in no position to offer any help in return when the same people require your assistance for a change. Dont get me wrong, not being able to listen to music and songs is a major pain, but lets be practical and smart and just learn to appreciate other forms of art instead of voluntarily becoming a burden to society.
FC you should ask your blind subscribers what they think about this Tho now i'm curious if there's an option for them to have voiced subtitles or something
3:05 However, one does need sight to type at first in all scenarios. This is especially the case for phones which have no difference in physical feedback compared to touching the rest of the screen.
VIsion is more useful because: 1) light travels further than sound so vision has greater range than hearing 2) everthing within "eyeshot" perptually emits visible light, but not everything within earshot emits audible sound.
As a breakcore producer, blind all the way. Apart from music being way too much of my life, I also just find the struggle of being blind fascinating. Experiencing life without sight would make for a completely different experience, and although it would be harder, I would revel in that challenge. Meanwhile, being deaf is just kind of an inconvenience. It's just gonna make it slightly more inconvenient to communicate, and only really be that dangerous in a few scenarios. So ultimately, yes, I agree that being deaf would be the easier of the two options, but I feel like I'd be able to find a greater appreciation for life if I was blind.
I'll take deaf. I can still put on a haptic suit and jam to my favourite tunes with literal pulse-pounding beats. I might be halfway to blind already (I have prescription glasses), but the things I like to do require me to see what I'm doing.
Speaking of tech advancements and not just smart phone bs, FC. we have made tech that completely restores human hearing from complete deafness, we have not done so yet with complete sight restoration, but we have come a long way.
@@jesuscornstorm737 i know, but choosing deafness because it can be reversed is essentially invalidating the question in the first place, which is why I didn’t bring it up and dismiss it.
Stevie wonder can play many instruments despite being blind, Evelyn glennie is an amazing percussionist and can give Ted talks despite being deaf. As far as music goes, being blind would be easier for playing most instruments. Drums would be harder though because you don’t feel the instrument as much as the piano. For life in general, I’d choose deaf because I’m already not great at hearing and I wouldn’t want to be blind and have bad hearing at the same time.
3:36 I use SoundCloud. The free version is just better free Spotify. I can ACTUALLY PICK MY SONGS Oh and also I can listen to Wheelchair Sam so that's a plus
Deaf, you would lose the ability to do a lot of stuff if you went blind. I may miss out on music and hearing what other people say, but at least i could learn sign language and use subtitles on movies and games so its not like i'd be missing out on all of that
I was once hard of hearing-very few are completely deaf-I sometimes wish I could return to being hard of hearing. I could go the rest of my life without hearing another song; I do not like music. I would likely kill myself if I went fully blind. I adore stories. I despise music. I am already hypersensitive to sound.
Gonna already throw it out there, no taste is an easy S tier you would be able to eat anything regardless of taste, imagine being able to save on money AND be more healthy by only eating protein bars for example Heck i could argue having no taste could be more of a benefit than a nerf, you lose out on some quality of life but become far healthier and financially stable
2:09, actually, people aren’t completely blind, It’s a rare percentage who is. Most have impaired vision and can see a bit. Even then people who have total blindness can get others to turn on the feature for them. Anyways what do I pick as an artist and aspiring musician… Can’t I just blind and deafen two Englanders?
I'd rather be deaf simply because my 2 biggest hobbies are games and reading, aswell as that i think sign language is pretty cool, it would heavily hamper my dnd games tho
Vision is probably the sense needed to do most stuff. Not being able to see would render you challenged in more occasions, then. Hearing helps a lot, but you can live without it.
I largely agree with Bowl but his argument about not being able to play the piano while blind falls completely flat when you remember that Stevie Wonder exists
I could give up music, but games, books (I know audiobooks exist, but still), theatre, art, comics? (Not to mention my hobbies of painting and programming) That would really suck - so I'd rather be deaf.
Finally someone else who hates spotify...i listen to all my music on mp3s on my phone and I dont understand why noone these days cares about owning their own music...
Okay....but what about *romanticizing* disabilities? Like, in the sense that you're imagining yourself either helping your disabled s/o with their problems, or you being in that situation and having someone who cares about you regardless of your disability and helps you with it?
I had not known that FC was also agoraphobic. Given that, I somewhat agree with his perspective. I similarly become very attached to the SOUND of those I love, and desperately require music to survive. However, just about all of my existent hobbies require sight to be enjoyed. I could not, for example, play games, be confident in my writing, so on. Navigating my home would be infinitely more difficult, especially given that I do not have someone to help me around at present. In short: I will narrowly take blind over deaf, but please don't give me more disabilities, I beg.
deaf can watch baguette’s videos. blind CANT because he won’t consider va’s for nothing, seriously you gotta do it for a special or something because I have to direct ALL of my attention to your video in order to enjoy it. it’s fine but it’d be nice if I could here it in the background whilst I do something productive, just food for thought.
The answer is really neither, both disabilities are harmful in their own ways and neither are are easier to handle than the other. You can’t say ‘oh when I’m deaf I won’t hear your bullshit’ what about the good things you’d rather hear? And people can’t say ‘oh without sight, I won’t have to see this ugly world’ why not just focus on better things to look at. Don’t take your eyesight or hearing for granted, people pay their life to get them back
Just for a little bit of reasoning, we live in a technological world now, not being able to see will make doing most things damn near impossible on a computer.
@@spugspence8607 that’s true, but even being deaf is harder than you think. It’s not just about accessibility since more things are now technological, but being able to hear is an important part of life. Without hearing, you wouldn’t hear a car coming up behind you, someone calling out for you, hearing your friends’ voice- communicating with others, being deaf is nowhere easy at all
@@LEAH-KUN-a98 if I choose to be deaf now, it is very much easy, I can still talk properly and people can respond with nodding, gesturing, or writing down. Great to see ppl like Cleophoebs and Caffeina back
Deaf easy, no eyes, no more gaming. Not easily anyway.
I'd rather be deaf than blind, unless the power of training is real and I can learn echolocation out of sheer willpower... Yeah no, I'm taking deaf.
0:38 But didn't you read it? With your non-blind eyes?
Stevie wonder can play many instruments despite being blind, Evelyn glennie is an amazing percussionist and can give Ted talks despite being deaf.
As far as music goes, being blind would be easier for playing most instruments. Drums would be harder though because you don’t feel the instrument as much as the piano.
For life in general, I’d choose deaf because I’m already not great at hearing and I wouldn’t want to be blind and have bad hearing at the same time.

Ive never laughed so hard in my life. The silence only made it better. Peak Comedy.

I use SoundCloud. The free version is just better free Spotify. I can ACTUALLY PICK MY SONGS
Oh and also I can listen to Wheelchair Sam so that's a plus
Orange IS better than green
Deaf, you would lose the ability to do a lot of stuff if you went blind. I may miss out on music and hearing what other people say, but at least i could learn sign language and use subtitles on movies and games so its not like i'd be missing out on all of that
I was once hard of hearing-very few are completely deaf-I sometimes wish I could return to being hard of hearing. I could go the rest of my life without hearing another song; I do not like music. I would likely kill myself if I went fully blind. I adore stories. I despise music. I am already hypersensitive to sound.
i was told that my eyes look like two shower drains
0:40 ladies, ladies! You're BOTH wrong. Both actions AND words can deceive
I'd rather be deaf because you cant enjoy French Baguette Intelligence blind!
Disability tierlist when?
You gotta play Project Zomboid then.
Gonna already throw it out there, no taste is an easy S tier you would be able to eat anything regardless of taste, imagine being able to save on money AND be more healthy by only eating protein bars for example
Heck i could argue having no taste could be more of a benefit than a nerf, you lose out on some quality of life but become far healthier and financially stable
I hear blind people
How could I be watching FBI if I was blind?
With your heart.
@@BlindBosnian get the AI Voice of FBI members for the low Price of... I dunno patreon Price, to read it for you

Bruh why not both?
French baguette intelligence upload, guys wake up
I'd rather everyone else be mute.
Neat.
I'd rather be deaf simply because my 2 biggest hobbies are games and reading, aswell as that i think sign language is pretty cool, it would heavily hamper my dnd games tho
Faux straight up changing genre characters
Vision is probably the sense needed to do most stuff. Not being able to see would render you challenged in more occasions, then.
Hearing helps a lot, but you can live without it.
I largely agree with Bowl but his argument about not being able to play the piano while blind falls completely flat when you remember that Stevie Wonder exists
An all-out war right from the start? Nice!
1:05 Literally Fujitora from One Piece
8:15 suddenly Becker
Don’t take your eyesight or hearing for granted, people pay their life to get them back
Being deaf is way easier tho.
It's never been easier to communicate, you can just text with speech anyway, many phones and apps can do it. Plus you shouldn't need to hear a car coming, you should be looking.
@@spugspence8607 alright, if you say you can handle being deaf then sure, but just wear earmuffs for a week and you’ll understand
id choose to lose a limb but keep my hearing and sight
From experience of having broken each of my limbs more than once, not having both your limbs sucks. ESPECIALLY if it's your leg
Hard to say. My channel kinda self-explains. But if I had to choose one, it'll probably be blind. XOXO music-lovers!
Definetly deaf, my Sister is half deaf and my grandma is half Blind.
This is a pretty subjective question. As a musician, I would of course rather be blind.
Its just evolution guys, sight appeared before hearing, so its natural to choose being deaf over blind
Plenty of creatures that "hear" much better than what they "see" exist
@@bruschetta7711Isn’t that pretty much just underground and nocturnal animals?
Sight isn’t that much of a boon for them.
Humans are (typically) diurnal and above ground. Sight is more useful for creatures like that.
I think i'd go with deaf. I mean, i love music, but, outside of it, sounds are very distracting. I feel peace only at night, when everyone is asleep and doesn't make a noise. And besides, i can always get a hearing aid, can't say the same about sight.
finally someone that agrees that youtube music is better.
The topic was a good one but it was the Spotify slander that kept me around. I would like to add to that by saying: skill share is awful you are better off finding tutorials over on here than over there.
i do think being deaf would be the lesser evil though. Sight is just too big of a sense.
Additionally, I think cochlear implants would solve it somewhat? I don't yet know of a device that might do the same for one's eyes.
If I was deaf, I would not have to hear the british accent.
If I'm blind, I can't exactly understand this video
No more music or no more gaming. Tough choice
Oh yeah, isn't Nameless from Persona a blindfolded pianist?
I need to know the music that starts playing at 0:44. I know it's a part of the ost but i dunno which song it is
Well, if I was blind, I couldn't see the notification, now do I?
@@luxiwayfarer369 its either a ping, which you would need to hear your phone, or you're a magician. 😎
Blind people can watch these videos, but not deaf people because its never dubbed
Im surprised after all this time Bowl still has the pumpkin skin on
FC... If you go blind you wont be able to see Serana anymore.
I get more attached to people’s voices than I get attached to their face.
Personally id rather lose smell and taste
I'd rather be mute.
I can live without taste too, but life would be terrifying without smell for me.
@LaCabraAsada no smell doesn't necessarily mean you can't breathe through your nose.
@@SpathiCaptainFwiffo I don't mean it like that 😅
I just feel like I locate myself a lot with my smell. When you hug someone, you can smell their scent; when you go home, you can smell the room; when you eat, you can smell the food.
Not being able to smell would make me feel like I'm in some sort of matrix-y limbo.
I’m upset no mention of Ray Charles a blind pianist, he also cheated on his wife so it’s not like blind people don’t cheat.
I’m team blind all the way
