Ok That was great. But what time of year would one start a graft. Fall , spring or summer??. I have 100s of wild pecan trees that would make good root stock
Also if the tap root is curled at the bottom of the container, (like the Pecan tree I just planted it was in a stupid little container, (about 2 gallons)). I loosened it up & pulled down the tape root Just a little before putting it in planting it. And I also loosened up the feeder roots just a little. Did I do the right thing? One sight said I should cut the tap root off. That did not sound like a good ideal to me. Do you think the tap root will become root bound? Thanks again.
i am very sceptical about this type of grafting... follow up would be very interesting to watch. in my country its impossible to graft pecan or walnut outside, because of the low temperatures.
I'm trying to understand whats If anything I might ought to do about the tree trunk. would it help to keep the sun off it by rapping it with aluminum foil or something to help the newly planted tree, (dry root, or one that was in soil), or a tree that is just grafted. It seems it would help, It's quit hot & sunny here in Rockport, TX.? Thank's
typically they have to be in the same genus.. Carya, in this case this includes hickory trees, which generally grow slower than pecan... so the main use seems to be growing hickory on top of pecan rootstock
Great Demo. I successfully grafted several pecans using the method.
@jerrywilemon6569 it's 10 years later. How did they do?
I have tried grafting with no luck at all till now. This works and works good!!!!
Excellent Excellent Video, the best I've seen.
Wonderful job
Outstanding grafting demo. Graft to get a better variety of any fruit. Seedlings usually do not make good fruit and may take 20 years.
How long before you need to remove the tape? 😃

Can you do this with a bigger top section, say one with smaller branches already?

I tried 3 trees but it did not work. All the grafted scions dried out.
Excellent. Thank you. What time of year do you graft?

did you cover the bud on the sion wood
how long should i leave both tapes on the grafts?
Can you graft the Pecan Scion to any tree or does it have to be some type of nut tree? Thank you for the video.

Hi Cathy.
what is the best time of year to do This ?
This graft should be done in the spring when the bark is slipping, using dormant scion wood that was collected in January or February.
Thanks So How do you keep the Wood Collected in February from Dying I am going to Try this in the Spring
