I love this video and the band. This video is interesting because there are certain points where Heather (the lead singer) breaks the 4th wall a lot and stares into the camera when she's not singing or just looks annoyed. It's a fun little video.
Hers - She Needs Him live at Paste Studios. Unfortunately those lovely gentlemen died in a car crash a while back, but their music is eternal. Just two dorky best friends making great tunes.
This one is from their first album. The punk sound comes through a bit more on their second album with songs like: "You Don't Own Me" (with the music video actually overdoing the whole punk thing a bit on purpose), "Fall to Pieces" and "Change". Their style is definatly unique already and they are still experimenting with things. As Heather said when the second album was released, she might try to experiment with some country music elements next, since she found that she enjoys country music recently. She writes these songs with help of ciara (drummer) and her girlfriend Khelsy (who has helped her with the second album) and she usually writes about stuff that she or the people she knows experienced, as well as her opinions on things. Television Romance for example is about someone that constantly kept coming onto her during one night when she was out with her best friend ciara and just wouldn't stop it even after she told them to go away several times. There is just something about Heather that really draws in my attention, her voice is pretty unique i would probably notice that anywhere. She's generally rather introverted and gets a bit uneasy when performing in front of a big audiance which is why some of her big live performances on stage aren't as good as they could be, but she's gotten much better at it since 2018, even tho she couldn't perform any of the new songs on stage yet due to the virus and did some livestreams instead. One of my favorite live videos is from 2018, where she performs a few songs accoustic, without the other members of the band. (Can't link that currently cause i'm using the youtube app, but the title of the video is: Heather Baron-Gracie (Pale Waves) - 9/20/18 )
Yeah it’s a throwback to some 80’s bands like Tears For Fears,Joy division/New order, and others, they have some more modern stuff, they also are influenced by bands like Garbage,Smashing Pumpkins
I like the song well enough, though I think her delivery was a bit too "I'm a goth" for the vibe. She had the "I'm not even supposed to be here today" look on her face through most of the performance. lol
As I said in the video it felt very "last gen". But I think that overall the band is very intriguing. I will be checking out their second album soon enough!!!
