They want us to buy overpriced electric vehicles to fetch more taxes from us, a tata Tiago electric hatchback costs 12-13 lakhs where we can get a mid size petrol/diesel suv at same price.
I am not going to buy any EV for next 10years. Infant stage technology ( being over advertised by media) overpriced cars and near nil support structure throughout the country. A Rich mans gamble. Good for one who can afford 2-3 cars at home. Common man shouldnt even think for it at this stage.
Wait for hydrogen in 5 years .. India should skip the EV madness.. let the west experiment with EV, EV (battery operated) is toxic both for environment as well as for economy (highly dependent on few suppliers from conflict zones)
Excellent informative video. I personally believe that all automobile companies should make CNG powered vehicles because, as you also pointed out, 70% of electricity in India is generated in thermal power plants therefore we are burning coal, therefore, it is not making our environment clean but yes you can say that cities will not witness too much polution that is all, therefore, best choice is CNG.
Thanks for your nice articulation. Look forward to engaging more with viewers like you! And yes - I have always wondered about the balance we would need on more EVs but at the same time having to make coal-fired power a smaller and smaller portion of electricity generated. The next decade would be interesting to watch and learn in!
@@tbraghavendran Please note that government of India doesn't allow LPG as a fuel.Secondly, it's highly inflameable , therefore, if you install LPG in your vehicle,on one hand you are breaking the law of the land and on the other you are playing with danger as a little leakage can create powerful blast. Please also note that your life is more precious than your savings.
Why are the experts not even thinking of bio fuels that work in present diesel engines fuels that have low carbon emissions. Bio fuels as simple as coconut oil? Minimum processing required and extremely low energy required for processing.
Banning diesel for environment is good.. but what about the cutting trees.. in the name of infrastructure development or urbanization, people cutting more trees than growing.. people cutting big trees and planting small plants.. banning diesel is not solution but we need revolution for cutting big trees..
Thank you for the informative content. It was well put together. I was wondering if you could make a video explaining the following about EV batteries: 1. The life cycle of an EV battery, from raw materials sourcing to recycling after reaching its end of life. What studies have been done regarding the environmental impact of this process? 2. What plans have been devised to handle the large number of diesel vehicles that will have to be scrapped when the policy comes into effect? How will this process affect the environment?
Great but at the same time old vehicles should be allowed to be modified too... a life of a vehicle is dependent on the care and maintenance executed. A car is a lifetime investment and has great sentiment attached. Why the old vehicles cannot be given an engine change ? Older vehicles are stronger and more reliable. Creating a service industry market should be more on focus than manufacturing new cars. Yes pollution and safety is important but certainly alternatives should be made available to help everyone enjoy their affordable luxury and privacy of their own. Why focus is not on public transportation infrastructure development? Why the old trams were scrapped? Much safer and far reaching too along the existing road alongside the pavements intercrossing streets at r8ght angles and turning directions at major junctions to form continuous loop. Why even a Google driver can run this 24/7.
Electric cars tech has not matured to give same flexibility like ICE engines, moreover coal is the primary source of electricity for car charging, so its like running your car on coal directly, which is any-day worse than running on diesel. Secondly managing battery pollution at the end of battery life will pollute environment more rather than saving anything. Thirdly - with the kind of current charging infrastructure, there is a high possibility that one will end up stranded without any battery charge at the middle of nowhere on India highways. Now coming back to Diesel cars - post BS6-phase 2, diesel cars are equally efficient and pollute less like any petrol cars so banning does not makes sense. Govt should give timeline of 15 years at least for banning the diesel cars and with immediate halt of new diesel cars production and sale. Even after that if government thinks to ban diesel cars then they should give tax back to car owners for the remaining legal years for the car registration. Also govt should stop the sham which is running under the name of PUC as its not applicable for new BS6 phase 2 cars and for old cars, again if any state govt (like delhi govt) can charge fine despite having valid PUC then it is of no use. Either govt should have clear sensible rulings or should suffer equally by paying taxes back to car owners, who have to purchase new car as result of the ruling. The right solution can be developing hydrogen based engines and ecosystem which is environment friendly and as convenient like diesel/ petrol engines
Why not accounting for the pollution caused during building an EV. The pollution caused by extraction of rare earth metals & pollution caused in making Lithium ion batteries.

India is heading in the right direction divorcing from diesel. There used to be a time when a liter of diesel was cheaper than petrol. This acted as an incentive for people to switch over to diesel powered cars. In the US, I have always seen dieces prices higher than petrol.
It's the mileage on diesel cars (twice as much as petrol) which is responsible for the middle class choosing diesel cars. Mobility is a key to economic development in developing nations like India.
Instead of only cribbing and crying out on environment aline try to think the economic status of each induvidual... ensure to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor first then start preaching on environment.
Such an illogical argument, shame on The Hindu team, people are not moving away from Diesel vehicle but the choices have been eliminated from the market. No small vehicle has diesel engine since few years and price point of bigger and expensive vehicle that still comes with a diesel engine is out of budget of majority of new car buying population. So how can you claim without logic that it is the people moving away?
