The loco pilot has to demonstrate the braking and bring the train to a stop at Khandala station. Only then will the track be switched to the down going track to Mumbai. If there is a brake failure here, the train will, by default, will go up the "catch siding", lose energy and stop. This is a safety mechanism which was initially set up by the British. There are two more locations on the ghat section at which this 'Catch siding" is implemented ( at Monkey hill and one more location), where the gradients are steep.

Actually, Naveen, the coaches not manufactured at ICF, the LHB coaches are certified only for 105 or 110kmph. since they use the ICF rolling stock on a LHB housing/ coach. These are called Hybrid LHB coaches. Can be built at 1/3rd price of an full LHB coach
Good and interesting but nostalgic video. When I was in school for three years in Poona (old name of Pune) during the mid fifties I had seen the then electric locos made by Metropolitan Vickers co of Sheffield, England pulling all trains between Bombay VT ( old name of CSMT) and Poona. Then WCM locos made by English Electric co of Preston, England were introduced. Only Bombay- Poona route was electrified. That was 1500 volts DC. All trains after Poona towards Dhond ( old name of Daund) were pulled by WP steam locos, later by Alco diesel locos. Poona to Bangalore route was metre gauge. SR on metre gauge came up to Poona. The scenic beauty of the Western Ghats between Lonavla and KARJAT is enjoyable even today.
I don't know which year you are talking about when you mentioned about Bangalore and Poona being connected by meter gauge. My maternal grandparents were in Bombay and it was only in 1983 that Bangalore got connected to Bombay via Poona with Udyan Express. Till then, we had to travel from Bangalore to Miraj and then take the connecting Janatha Express which would come from Madras and travel further to Bombay.

Why wcam2 and wcam3 are operated only in Maharashtra, that too only between Mumbai, Pune and Shirdi? Why not in other states out of Maharashtra? Like that I want WAM4 of Arakkonam loco shed to be operated between Jolarpettai and Chennai central. And also between Ezhumbur and Kadalur port junction.
Because those loco's are designed and powered only to use on ghat sections and also it's home shed is Maharashtra due to technical reasons they are now only used for short distance travel and as bankers, once upon a time they was a king and queen for konkan railway full stetch and also they manufactured very less locomotives like around 53 locomotives that's it - That's why it is used only on that section only u can spot it in different states and sometimes u may have spot it with goods but very rare

This route is always very scenic and beautiful.....and it looked accordingly in your video. 3:04 Who is she? Did you try the Lonavala chikkis sold in Lonavala station......they come in all sorts of unimaginable combos and variants and are just yummm. Did the vendors sell sandwiches in Karjat? They are one of the softest and tastiest ones ever found in any railway station.....all thanks to them being assembled on the retaining wall of the railway platform😅. It was like this till 2005. Dont know if the hygiene levels have improved now
In the 1950s the main brand was MAGANLAL LONAVLA CHIKKI. Today that brand is still there but dozens of other brands too are sold. In the Lonavla- KARJAT section the vendors used to sell the local speciality called batata vada. Today VADA PAV has usurped that slot!
