    --------
    Vlad discussed a provocative theory with Jason Lee regarding Kanye West's controversial behavior and its impact on his business affiliations. Vlad shared that Gilbert Arenas believed Kanye's anti-Semitic remarks were a calculated move to exit his Adidas contract and take full ownership of Yeezy. Jason Lee questioned this theory, recalling an incident where Kanye disrupted a major collab with Balenciaga, leading to millions in losses for Gap due to unsold inventory.
    Jason detailed how Adidas benefited tremendously from Kanye, earning $3 billion, but failed to reinvest in Black communities. He recounted efforts to push Adidas to allocate funds for community initiatives, which were met with resistance and superficial gestures like free sneakers. Their discussion highlighted corporate exploitation of Kanye's creativity and the complex dynamics between artistic vision and corporate control. Jason critiqued Adidas for their exploitation and failure to support the very communities that fuel their success, likening their actions to "shady" corporate behavior.

    I mean it'd be admirable if big companies set aside revenues to help communities in positive and meaningful ways, but in any realistic context, there should be absolutely zero expectation from them to do that whether that's being pragmatic, cynical, or anything else. Corporations only exist as entities to generate the most profits possible, period, and that's quite literal. I feel like people latch onto brands like they mean anything other than marketable avenues to scrape those profits.

      The pick yourself up by the boot straps mantra is disingenuous when one considers that other communities benefited from centuries of policy that put them in positions of power. Artists do not have that money in cash. It requires them to sell their assets which reverts power to other communities. That would mean that from the time of sale the cash flow starts to dwindle. That isn't sustainable.

    Adidas is owned by Adidas AG a multinational group of investors originally founded in Germany where its headquarters is. Do you really think they care about 13% of the population in one of the hundreds of countries they do business with they don't care they won't care and they should not care. When you buy a $800 pair of shoes it's kind of a signal to people you don't need financial help nor does your community.

    • @Fashionhustler
      @Fashionhustler 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re clueless. That 13% made up over 50% of their sales for decades. Adidas faced bankruptcies multiple times and each time a black person rescued them from insolvency. Jesse Owens. RunDMC. Kanye. Do your research before you denigrate a whole audience that you know nothing about. It’s all public record.

    • @OfficialTapeMag
      @OfficialTapeMag หลายเดือนก่อน

      What pair of Yeezy's were $800.00? You used that figure to support a claim you could not prove absent gross exaggeration. They should care because they chose Ye for his influence in a particular community. This is not different that using Britney Spears. The only difference is that people who look like her are most likely already in position of wealth and influence. Microsoft made headlines in January 2019 for investing $500 million into affordable housing in the Seattle area, which is home to both Microsoft and Amazon to address the inequality that has spread in communities where the industry is concentrated. Seattle is smaller that 13% of the population. Google (parent company, Alphabet) pledged to invest $1 billion in land and money to build homes in the San Francisco area (also less than 13%). Salesforce gave out $18.2 million in grants to the San Francisco and Oakland school districts and education nonprofits to expand educational opportunities for students and leaders in the Bay Area (also less than 13%).

    Hmmm I'm seeing a lot of black folks (allegedly, since we don't really know) say stuff "Adidas don't owe black people anything." But what do we hear every single day on PBS? "this program was funded from viewers like you. AND contributions from the CHUBB group." Who the hell is the chubb group? Well, it's just TINY representations of what companies do to get tax write-offs by making "charitable contributions." How do you think building after building after building are bought at colleges and universities? Or the holocaust museums? And political PACS are funding?
    COMPANIES make CONTRIBUTIONS to causes and SPECIFIC communities when they want to support. So, yes companies can and DO direct funds when they want to. I don't how many Afro-Sheen commercials I saw and then at the end a comment about the Urban League and "the mind being a terrible thing to waste." And they get the tax write-off. And companies LOVE tax write-offs.
    And one thing I do know. You don't GET nothing if you don't ASK for nothing. So, I'm with Jason on this. If even HALF of that 3 billion came from black feet wearing those shoes, yeah, then you need to kick a few dollars in. Don't come around here with your empty cup talking about "let me get a sip."
