Been here three years now. 1. weather. It's hot hot hot and humid It sucks the life out of you 2. utilities. no confidence that you will have electricity when a storm comes through and you will be out for days, not hours. 3. expensive electricity bill because you have to run 24/7 You can never open your windows here Fresh air is just a memory. 4. traffic is horrid and the toll roads are expensive. Inner city streets are grid locked. 5. bugs. even fallen leaves are full off biting insects. Mosquitos Keeps you from enjoying your yard 6. drivers always distracted and slow. Too much phone usage 7. CRime. Very very low police presence and high crime in pockets. 8. HOA and Property TAxes are very high. 9. there's a very clear feeling of expensive/nice neighborhoods and not as nice neighborhoods. The "haves" and "have nots". 10. everything rots. patio furniture, umbrellas. Bread and fruit molds here within a day or two. even with AC. Just average produce at all groceries. Food costs are high. 11. Long wait times for any repairs. For Example.....2 week wait for my car to be diagnosed and no you cannot bring it in in two weeksit has to sit there in line. High likelyhood of being ripped off by handymen and contractors. 12. insurance rates for home and car are very high.
I moved to Katy 20 years ago when it was still very rural. That is what attracted me to Katy. I loved the fact that I could walk my dogs in the woods behind our subdivision. I loved seeing the deer grazing on the side of Morton Creek and I would occasionally run into coyotes. Wildlife was everywhere. There was very little traffic. The downside 20 years ago was that the nearest grocery store was approximately 6 miles away. In the past 10 years Katy has grown by leaps and bounds. It is now very congested. The roads are packed and traffic is horrible. The woods have been replaced with houses. It's sad how Katy has been destroyed with all the development. I have thought of moving out to Fulshear or Simonton but Fulshear is undergoing rapid development also. Simonton seems to still retain its rural ambiance.
I grew up in Simonton and had family in Katy. I remember on Christmas having to drive down the farm roads to get to my grandmoms house to the suburbs. I moved to the PNW and whenever I come back to visit I am always completely lost now. Simonton seem so rural back then. I would get in so much trouble! Simonton and Fulshear didnt even have a police force !
Oh it’s not that serious.. bugs.. it’s not that bad.. they also spray the area. Roaches.. if you have them, you are nasty…, there is traffic in every city. I’m living in Tx for a year now and I love it.. never moving back to the east coast.. property tx.. rent.. if that makes sense for your family.. it’s still cheaper to buy.
Ya'll forgot something. katy has the most lotery winners in texas so what other good reason do you need to live/swing by katy? Schools academic levels and sports are at the highest in texas..This video is misleading you can not blame/relate Houston traffic to it. yes it can be a pain in the rear end sometimes if you work in the houston area and commuters don't have a choice but to put up with it. This is a high humidity zone yes those little insects and common on this type of climate no need to worry. If you wanna move to Katy do your homework if it doesn't work out for you keep searching for your perfect place.
BIGGIE, ATTENTION PARENTS. check your school district for transportation. the school district has just cut school buses for every one 2 miles or less from school. So your 7 year old or 10 year old will be walking if you are within 2 miles. Walking in extreme heat, with bags and instruments to and from school with little to no crossing guards and few sidewalks. Schools also have has maintenance cut so many do NOT HAVE AC. It's been 100 degees here since school started and no AC in many schools. So when you move here, check even the most stupid assumptions about the schools your kids will be going to. If you elect to drop off and pick up, know it could take you 2 hours each time; 4 hours dedicated to transporting your kid/s each day.
I have not heard of any Katy schools not having AC. School lines are not two hours long. If you don't want to wait in line, let your kiddo know you will pick them up toward the end of the line to spare yourself the wait. 😊
This will be fun ................ California Boy Here !! Hate The Heat ... all the other stuffs you said is Livelihood really. Good To Know .. Respect Guys !!! I can handle all the other stuffs you mentioned. Just gotta learn how to save money every year for the TAX every year LOL This will be very interesting. Dad always wanted to live like the West West West, Rural Like - Cowboyish type of livelihood. I guess this is it ................ Katy here we come !!! I heard Austin is cooler .... Fuddruckers still around?
I'll still take Katy over Tampa, to crowded in Florida... way to crowded. The weather, just adjust and drink fluids. The economy in Texas is better, the VA benefits go much further, the housing market... it speaks for itself. Ain't no way I'm spending another 2 years here
The entire Katy "metro" area (i.e. the Katy zip codes, not just City of Katy) is something on the order of 1 million. We lived in Katy from 1988 to 2017, and by the time we left the traffic was unbearable. South of the freeeway between Barker Cypress and 99 things are really beautiful - nice, well-maintained homes and esplanades, plenty of shopping and restaurants. But the main thoroughfares are clogged up even on weekends. The humidity is also unbearable, even late into the evening, and even deep into October - be prepared to live indoors. It's a long trek through traffic to any major entertainment venue. All in all, loved it while it lasted, but happy to be gone and wouldn't go back.

Ngl tho. I’ve lived here my whole life. I can deal with our typical 100°s. But like anything lower than 75 is freezing.
We usually keep neck fans on us in case the temp randomly goes above 105
I moved to Katy 20 years ago. What was once a quiet little town has gone to shit.

I would super glue my bag to a lightpole before I would move to katy
Just a general comment. I rather live in Katy over anything over at California. I love it here and I would make the same sacrifices over again.
Thinking of moving from Cali
Is there a lot of Colombians in Katy? If not where are the most at in Texas?
Many Colombians in Katy, the number has grown in the past 10 years
Im glad yall realize katy is not Houston and its own city 👍
Definitely! Many people think otherwise!
I prefer calling it a town. But thas prob cuz I’ve been here since 08
