    I absolutely loved this presentation! The beautiful music flowed with the camera lens capturing the essence of your gardens. Your choice of roses were stunning. I loved the roses that had apricot one day and the next more pink..that was so real. Also Ringo Starr with several colored petals on the same bush. What a beautiful setting you have...thank you for all you do!

    Omg I thought I just went to rose heaven! I can’t imagine how much work you put into these babies! I live in DE zone 7a. What would you recommend to combat black spot? Do you have multiple of the same rose planted together? Or is it just one big rose bush for each variety? Lots of my DA roses are leggy and have long canes. Should I prune twice a year to keep their size in check? Sorry I’m throwing so many questions at you. 😂

    • @nicoleliu5584
      @nicoleliu5584 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRoseGeek Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions! ❤️ I already subscribed and joined your FB group too lol I prune hard around March too but I think the shadier spot makes my DA roses grow extra long canes. I read some people prune again after the first flush and some recommend pegging instead. I for sure will keep an eye on your tips regarding Japanese beetles. Have a great weekend!

    Kimberley, thank you very much for taking the time to compile this video. It's helpful to know what is working out well in your garden. We're not in the same zone, but it helps me see what does well in humidity at least! also it's great that you included how many seasons the plants had been in your garden. I'm hopeful for 2023, as it will be the third season for a lot of my roses. thanks again for all that you do! ( PS, Do you start any annual/perennial flowers from seed? just curious! I think i remember you talked about trying to sow poppies? am i losing it? )

    • @greybriar
      @greybriar ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheRoseGeek Good luck with the poppies! they're one of my favorites, but i never have great luck. FYI, poppies don't do great transplanted so keep that in mind as you start some indoors. Most gardeners direct sow those in the winter/early spring. Some even suggest sprinkling them on top of snow! I've found that while i LOVE corn poppies ( amazing grey, pandora, ect.) i do better with perennial oriental poppies from bare root. 🤷‍♀ Anyhow, good luck! and keep me posted!

      @@greybriarHI! I’m fairly new to gardening (started in 2021) and get my love of roses from my grandmother. I saw ur comment about poppies, and I have poppy seeds of several varieties that I’m planning on planting soon. I’m in Tx, zone 8a, and we’ve only had three days of cold weather so far this winter in the recent arctic blast so I haven’t planted them outside yet. I just wanted to know when would it be too late to plant them, and if we don’t get cold enough this winter, can I stratify the seeds in the fridge to simulate cold weather like one does for tulip bulbs and then plant them? Thank u in advance for ur help! 😊

    • @greybriar
      @greybriar ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@loricawley54 Hi! I'm no expert, by any means but I'll try to help. As I've read, yes, the seeds will need a cold period of stratification ( Fridges are great! i keep mine there just incase.) i'd go ahead and put them in the fridge as soon as possible, as they need a few weeks of cold from what i've read. ( 2 weeks should be fine) and then just direct sow them in your garden where you want them soon after.( just lightly sprinkle and tap in, they need light to germinate! ) Some poppies might do better in others in your warmer climate, as they don't love heat or humidity. Also, you can try direct sowing some in the fall and seeing if that works as well! Good luck!

    • @loricawley54
      @loricawley54 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @greybriar Tysm for the help! I went and put the poppy seeds in the fridge just now and will plant in 2 weeks. I'm in west Tx which is HOT and dry in the summers so the poppies may not do well here, but since I'm new to gardening, I just wanted to try bc they r so beautiful! I tried dahlias for the first time ever in 2022, and got them to grow and bloom in grow bags. I tried them directly in the ground first, but they didn't do well in our sandy soil. We've been slowly improving our soil as we build new beds so I'll try dahlias in the ground again later this spring. Hoping the poppies will like the soil, but they may hate our heat. 🙈 I've planted 18 roses so far since 2021 (with plans to plant many more!), and they love the heat and our soil. I'm just excited to plant pretty things in case u can't tell lol! 😂 Again, tysm for the help!! 💓

    Oh my....I know this is an old video but I hope you see my comment and question? I see you have a lot of beautiful David Austin roses and I notice they are planted at the base of trees? Do they get dappled sunlight or full sun there, or are they in shade throughout the day? I've just ordered several David Austins, and my backyard is mostly shaded with dappled sunlight but very good soil, and I'm wondering if they will do okay planted there. I have a lot of hardwood trees but lots of areas where sunlight shines through. I'm just very unsure how some of them do in dappled shade. Can you share your experience how much sunlight yours get in shady areas? Thanks so much in advance. I've just stumbled upon your channel when I saw this video. New subscriber!

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much for subscribing! I have had success growing some varieties in shady areas. Some DAs however don't perform well. I think if you are buying the newer varieties, you will have more success. You will also find that if your canopy is open when the leaves are dormant on the trees for the winter, that you will have a nice spring flush and then as the canopy fills, you will have a few blooms here and there for the rest of the season.
      In my shady locations, I grow: Totteringly, Benjamin B, Queen of Sweden, and Olivia.
      Sending wishes for a season full of blooms!

I'm not sure which of those are old or new? This will be my first ever DA roses and I'm so excited! I do hope I got some good ones. 🙏 I do have lots of sunshine on the North and North East side of my property so maybe if they dont do well in the dappled shade of my backyard I could possibly move them if need be.
