That's why they went back-to-back in the finale. Germany endeared everybody by saying they won't wiggle a middle finger back to you(whilst a woman in a middle finger-suit is tap dancing on the stage),followed by Finland who tells Europe to put their middle fingers up(without putting their middle fingers up) and party. Just like the germans wanted to party. Genius move from the production team.
That's something I have never understood, either. Jendrik's song is definitely not something with amazing orchestration, but the message it sends out is the most important message you could possible send in a competition consisting of so many different countries that don't all necessarily get along outside of the Eurovision Song Contest. This has been one of my favorites since the first time I heard it. It is so much fun and especially at this time, something fun and with a good message is just what people are wanting to hear. Please, Germany, show this amazing artist and his important song the love they deserve.

Jendrik may have gotten the second to last place but I for one think, that he is an amazing representative for Germany. Seeing him just having fun, connecting with the artists from other countries and just being a genuinely nice person is so much more important than the actual contest part of the ESC.

As a fellow German I just love this energy here. Nobody can tell me that Germans can't be charming and funny after this same for the Dutch, there is always such great chemistry going on between people of these two countries.
But this wouldn‘t be used in that context so he probably didn’t even think of the word ‚gratis‘. He probably thought of the word ‚frei‘ which is what would be used here.

This song has such a GREAT message, but it's pretty upbeat and it makes it kind of hard to hear all the words in the important message. In the slow version, you can really hear the message so much easier. He has a really good voice, too. This has been one of my favorites from the beginning. I hope Europe gets behind him.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see how much German/Dutch they can speak back and forth that would be mutually intelligible. I'm comparing this situation to myself as a Norwegian speaking to Swedes and Danes and I can get by pretty much in both Sweden and Denmark speaking Norwegian and the majority of Swedes and Danes understand me just fine and I understand most of them without trouble too. Sure, there's the odd dialect that might sound funky and some words might need explanation. But the conversation flows perfectly for the most part and there have only been a few times in Denmark where locals there spoke English to me after I spoke Norwegian to them, for some weird reason.

It's just the pronunciation and maybe the word order that makes it a little more hard to recognize the words.

I don't know why his song ended so low. Yes, it's a bit cheesy but it's very fun and uplifting. And he is hilarious. One of the funniest, if not THE funniest, interview I've ever seen.
Ahaaa see I noticed how out of breath he was and I was thinking “oh dear, considering this song is a bit marmite this could really affect their result” but Jendrik addressed it and was very humble about it, it makes me think he WILL bring it back in the final! I’m not gonna lie, I was a total hater when he was first announced but his bright and delightful attitude along with his message has really changed my mind. I realised how happy and bright he was and thought “why am I being such an asshole? I’m the bitter and sad one here”. He’s really a great ambassador for his message.
