I'm a direct descendant of Edward IV (with his mistress, Lady Elizabeth Lucy).
I can't even imagine how it must've felt for my ancestor (Elizabeth of York) to watch in horror as her brothers were trapped in a tower and her uncle took the throne... Dark times. Very dark times.

Depends on who you believe if it’s “solved” or not. Winners or losers in history. We do know winners win, in written accounts after events happen. Like the portrayal of the Persians by the Greeks…a lot amiss. Not a lot of it factual

He certainly could have killed them as he had the means, the motive and the opportunity. But since he didn’t announce their deaths he might have been innocent.

I think Margaret did it. She had the access and the motive.

No, she didn't. Richard is the only one with access to them- And it's A well known fact, after you usurp A king you eventually have to get rid of them.

It's not a Philippa Gregory novel. It was Richard. Why would he want the second boy after all if not to kill him? He just would have left him with his mother in the sanctuary if he didn't. He already had the heir in his clutches after all....

It is NOT a mystery at all. Their uncle killed them to become King... duh! Skip all the dramatics.

Exactly! The proof is the fact that he became King instead of his nephew.

The mystery is what happened to them--HOW were they killed? By whom? And what happened to the bodies? Even if Richard was to blame, he didn't do it himself. So.... what happened??

King Richard could have killed the boys at any time before they went to the tower. Instead he plotted to make them illegitimate which worked. He didn't kill George Plantagenet son. So why would he kill the princes in the tower when another heir was walking around scot free. He has not been known as a kin slayer that's why he chose to make them illegitimate instead of killing them. Henry Tutor can not become king while the princes in the tower was alive. In order to make the marriage to Elizabeth of York work her brothers have to be dead. There is no point for him to marry her when she is worthless to him with her brothers being alive. He has to have them killed from the inside by a failed attempt to rescue them. If the princes are rescued from the tower and he beat Richard Plantagenet in battle what has he achieved? Nothing, all to keep the very family he don't want on the thrown.

For me, I’d say Sir James Tyrell. My gut feeling said that James tyrell is the murderer.

Why would Elizabeth Woodville agree to come out of sanctuary and put herself and her remaining children into his care if she believed he murdered the princes? If history has shown us anything she was a fighter and fiercely ambitious for,and protective of, all her children. After his victory at Bosworth Henry Tudor was in the position of power to rewrite the story any way he saw fit.

@@ryanwilliams9289 Edward died of sickness in the Tower. His priest said he was preparing for death. And Richard Duke of York left and kept under the protection of Richard until he reached his majority. Elizabeth and her children left sanctuary and would also remain under his protection and watchful eye because he didn't trust her. He didn't account for Henry Tudor or that Elizabeth would work with Margaret Beaufort to supplant him. Underestimating Tudor, he lost at Bosworth and the rest is history by Henry Tudor. Just a theory

@@vanessadebrino7231 not buying it. He is a child killer, based on the balance of probability.

@@ryanwilliams9289 normally I would agree. I don't have the answer but based on everything we've learned of Gloucester he just wasn't built like that. He was Edward IV's most trusted lieutenant. He was always faithful and devoted to him and his cause. This is why Edward wanted him to be Lord Protector. It was Hastings who told him what was happening in London and that he should take the princes into his safe custody. After all Hastings was Edwards best friend. I believe Edward was sickly and dying. Why else would his priest suggest that he was preparing himself for death ? Remember the odds were you wouldn't make it to adulthood in that time. He was brought to the Tower which wasn't exactly sanitary. Btw the BBC did a mock trial on this in the 80s. It's on TH-cam you should check it out
