That’s a WWII era “lift the dot” fastener. The secret to using them is to push the “dot” upwards and pull the part with the hole in it out off the dot. They are still used because they work very well. “In war time, all people are smart.” So true. Very good video.👍
You did a good job with this video. I have three or four of these mess kits The included canteen with this kit is not the best way to carry water. Too much fumbling to get at the canteen. Instead hack saw off the complete plastic top of the canteen. Now you have an additional dish to use for eating! Plus you can carry things inside what was the canteen.
The canteen is for washing the kit? Not drinking? The US mess kit of WW II uses the same carry idea. The top lid of the kit, with 2 compartments, it goes over the pan handle for chow lines. So one-handed carry. That is why it's divided, and it also separates food. The US, I believe, uses a 3 trash can line wash system, initial dunk, next soapy water, then clear water, so communal. If you look at a US kit, there are rings and hang points that the whole kit can hang down, as a group, which always allows you to do those dunks without losing an item in a trash can. My guess is this European kit defaults to a more sanitary, more independent wash with its own canteen?
Hi, I have a question for you, and I hope you can help. I'm trying to translate the manual into English. But when I get to section 3 of the manual "postaviti pomoću pijavke na povijeni deo ručice", every online translator I use says pijavke means leech in English. I'm guessing it doesn't mean a literal leech.😁 Do you have any clue what they mean? Is it some kind of adhesive?
It is small rectangle opening on plastic part where you put handle that is on aluminium part. That way you have one part for soup (plastic section), and alu part for cooked/hard food.
@@radio-operator I was just wondering if it meant there was some kind of adhesive to hold the small cup on the handle. My kit had some kind of black goop on the handle when I got it.
I checked manual, it's weird word they were using. When I catch some time I will record detailed video on that. But atm after job I am tired as hell. Perhaps I will record that at the end of the week.
Excellent bushcrafters find but as you stated the resellers rape all bushcrafters trying to get an affordable setup. Can you and would you make copies of your instructions as mine does not have that?😊

To clean water bottles use effervescent denture cleaning tablets.

So it's like "bridge" between plastic and alu section that you hold with one hand if you don't have table or smth like that.
@@radio-operator thank you for getting back to me. so the small plastic cup is the pijavke?

Thanks for translating the manual.
You're welcome
Comrade, you remind me of a young Crocodile Dundee!
lol, how so ?
I dont see why bushcrafters want to buy this mess kit when it is made out of plastic. It means that you cannot cook it over a fire. Useless.
Part is plastic, part is aluminium. This is army stuff from 60 years ago. It works.
