This video brings back good memories of when I lived on Mt Washington and Duquesne Heights from 1972 to 1981. My parents had their house on Greenleaf St in Duquesne Heights. Finished college in 1981 and moved to Texas. Used to take the inclines almost daily to get downtown and catch the bus out to Oakland. I definitely remember driving up and down Sycamore St which we called Burma Road because of all the twists and turns and potholes.

Great Video Tim! My Father and I were part of the crew that installed those black railings along Grandview and the overlooks.I see that they are still there, not much has changed. That was April 1968.

That was probably the railing that was in those 1908 pics! 😳 😀

Thanks for another excellent time travel experience. When we visited Pittsburgh last Fall we stayed at a house off Boggs Ave. I rode my bike along Grand Avenue and took the Duquesne Incline down and backup from Pittsburgh. I drove up Sycamore Street. I certainly wasn't going to ride my bike up it!! 😳

Hi Tim! Thanks for the video. I really enjoy these time travels. I didn't know much about Mt Washington except for the incline and a very nice restaurant with view of downtown. A lot of history here and enjoy the pics!

Glad you like 'em, Keith! Chris grew up there (I met her when we worked at Louis Tambellini's) and my having also worked at the Cliffside I spent no small amount of time up around there.

LOVE this. My Father Grew up on Sycamore Street on the other side in Duquesne Heights. He'd Be 99 This year. He was born in 1924 and I was looking at the kids in the pictures to see if he was one of them. LOL

My grandfather had a butcher shop on Shiloh street. You showed it in you video but it had to have been after 1933 I’d love to find pictures of his shop

I couldn't tell where the butcher shop was but the only Shiloh picture not from the '30s was the picture with the streetcar and that was mid 60's.

Very interesting video, with a lot of photos that remind me of my youth (born in East Liberty in 1947.) Tim, you oughta check local thrift shops for a copy of "Harold Betters at the Encore" LP, to add some mellow 1960s Shadyside club jazz to your soundtrack.

      Thanks!
Those songs would be perfect, Roger. I'm trying to transition to using royalty-free stuff in case I ever want to monetize the channel in the future but I'm not really fond of much of it. It's actually one of the most frustrating parts of putting one of these together!
I wonder if songs from that LP are available on TH-cam? I'll have to check . . .

Hey Tim, wondering if there’s any way I can get into contact with you. I was doing some research regarding Banksville road when I found your video on it from a few years ago. I have a few questions I’d like to ask to see if you have any answers or maybe sources you could share . Thanks! Happy new year!

      Hi TL27,
Not much to tell you. I was lucky enough to get access to a bunch of old photos of Allegheny County road projects the county let me scan before they gave them to the Pitt Library Archives. (Address below) I didn't know what I was going to dowith them all and I wanted to share them so I started making these videos. Now I use that website to find old pictures from the City Photographer I can add, as well.
I also pay a subscription to search through the online "Post Gazette Newspaper Archives." (Google that)
I have to warn you though, searching at either place is like going into a time whirlpool. You find sooo many other interesting things.
I use Filmora software to make the videos.
      That's about it.
