    I had a classic Fedders at one time when I was a kid and they are truly built like tank. It got ice cold and was very quiet.

    Great to see at the end how good of a condition the condenser on the Fedders is thanks to that drain hole being there just like you said

    Coming back to this video. I love the sound of the big amana and it sucks it failed. Also, you accidentally calling the big amana a fedders seems like foreshadowing to what actually happens. Odd coincidence.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not completely failed, just needs a charge top off most likely. It wasn't quite powerful enough anyways.

      It's a good machine, old reliable Tecumseh compressor in there.

    14:35 What in the world? Your hurting the units efficiency and its condenser won’t stay hydrated It has feelings too!
    Yeah there is no law against drilling a drain hole properly. These damn AC manufacturers are too lazy to make a good unit

    • @rs12official
      @rs12official 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How on earth is getting rid of water, which is literally bad for it, going to make it less efficient?? That doesn’t make sense!

    These are all good units. I really like the sound of the first Amana. I also think that the Fedders units are underrated, they seem to be really good.

    Excellent machines! Those Fedders units are known for noisy compressors but I don't think they're all that bad. The ones that failed were likely due to lack of servicing. I like the sound of the small Amana. Sounds similar to a reciprocating compressor. Could that small Amana still be a little low on charge? I wonder if it leaked just enough to keep it from cooling like it should but not enough for it to freeze up.

    I paint my window filler boards with exterior paint to make them last. Do you have central heat and air conditioning, or do you just prefer window units? Our house does have central heat and air, but it's broken and costs too much to replace. So, we just use window units. We also like the ability to zone. We keep certain rooms more comfortable than others to save on electricity costs.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This house was built well before the boom of central air conditioning. I don't care for central air conditioning anyways, I'd rather just run one smaller machine in the room I'm in. I don't see a point in cooling the entire house 24/7, seems like a waste.

  • @maddmaxx636

    On the wood grain unit. You should try and stain the wood you have on the side to match the unit. Make it blend in. It would look super sharp and nice and I bet youll forget its there and nobody would even notice

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That probably would look nice, but there's far too many other projects to be done like replacing and staining all the trim on the window frame itself.

  • @nathang.1744
    @nathang.1744 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your electrical bill must be through the roof!! You need to get some mini split

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  ปีที่แล้ว

      Electricity is measured in usage over time. Running these units for short periods of time vs. running a newer "more efficient" system for hours and hours on end to achieve the same cooling becomes a wash. These are far more cost effective to operate, they run for decades and decades with nothing but routine cleaning.

  • @micbad4689
    @micbad4689 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    5000 btu/h is just a waste of electricity, 12000btu is the minimum to be comofortable, even if you only need a 9000btu/h.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't agree with that at all. Anything larger than 5,000 BTU in a small room or an area with low heat gain will not remove humidity properly, which is very important in this part of the country.

    • @micbad4689
      @micbad4689 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JordanU well, I live in a tropical country, and over here stores don't even have 5000btu/h a/c they just don't, some don't have 9000btu/h. Anything lower than 12000 makes no sense, remember the different heat sources inside the room.

  • @maddmaxx636

    You should run Kill a Watt meters on the units. Just to see how much they are pulling
