0 seconds ago What a gift this man has to teach. He has to be one of the best. I was having a problem getting all these names connected. His explanation of the Jeho.. in front of their names helped me alot I was looking on line for explanation of this and I found his teaching. This was an incredible teaching and so relevant as well
Thanks Pastor Skip. If my family tree diagram is right, the woman Jehoshabeath who saved Joash is Athaliah's stepdaughter and Joash's aunt?...Also, the Davidic line was reduced to one man also when the Philistines and Arabians killed all of Joram's sons except the youngest son Ahaziah (Joash's father). This was the Joram who was son of Jehoshaphat and killed all his brothers and was married to Athaliah and had his intestines fall out. Since Joram had earlier killed all his brothers, then Ahaziah (who would later be killed by Jehu) was the lone surviving son in the Davidic line. God bless.
Thanks Pastor Skip. I drew up a little "family" tree to help keep track of how these people in these chapters are related to each other. I think it's right - any corrections appreciated! So Athaliah had the following family relationships: daughter of Ahab and Jezebel of the Northern Kingdom (NK); wife of King Joram of the Southern Kingdom (SK) (Joram of SK was the son of King Jehoshaphat of SK); sister of King Joram of NK (who was killed by Jehu); mother of King Ahaziah of SK (this was the son killed by Jehu); grandmother of Joash (the one grandson who escaped her murder spree of the other grandsons); stepmother to Jehoshabeath (since Jehoshabeath was the daughter of King Joram SK and Athaliah was wife of King Joram SK). This would make Joash (the grandson who survives) the nephew of Jehoshabeath. And then Jehoiada the priest, since he's married to Jehoshabeath, would be Joash's step-uncle. Good grief! God bless!
I noticed 2 Kings 12 does not mention one of the great sins of Joash in his last years. But it is mentioned in 2 Chronicles 24. After Jehoiada died and Joash turned away from God toward idols, the son of Jehoiada, Zechariah, told them that because they had forsaken God, God would forsake them. But Joash became angry and had Zechariah stoned to death! Then God used Syria to execute judgment on Joash and Judah.
Thanks Pastor Skip! And to God be the glory. Its like an epic flick! I didnt fall asleep.
2 chapters baby!
