I do a lot of cross stitch and embroidery. I would recommend that you try cross stitch instead of embroidery first because cross stitch is easier. I actually cross stitch while listening to TH-cam videos most of the time! Cross stitch has you stitch X's which is a lot easier than embroidery which is sort of these longer straight stitches. I haven't tried doing embroidery while listening to TH-cam yet but might try this today to see if I can. For me I need quiet to do embroidery to get the stitches to lay smoothly and sometimes if I get distracted I accidentally prick myself with the needle which can hurt! 😖
Most prestamped cross stitch kits come from China & they sometimes include needles that are a little bit sharp. For me cross stitch is easier with a tapestry needle. These are needles with a blunt/rounded tip. Rounded tips go through the holes in the fabric easier (for me) & its nice to have rounded tip needles so you don't prick yourself by accident like I seem to do! 😄 If you cross stitch on 11 count I think you would need a size 24 tapestry needle. And 14 count you would need a size 26 tapestry needle. They sell these at Walmart alongside embroidery needles. I need to refresh my memory on the different sizes of embroidery needles. 🤔 I hope this helps and you can experiment with different sizes of fabric & tapestry needles with cross stitch because it depends on what you're comfortable using after trying it out. ☺ There are no rules, sometimes I use a size 28 needle with 14 count fabric because I like to have fun trying different options😃😅. Some stitchers like using embroidery needles with cross stitch projects because they like them and its personal preference. There are no cross stitch police 👮♂️, do what makes you happy!
