    Amazing video, thanks for showing the defense in such detail. Especially the d-line, the unsung heroes of this game! Sneed, Mcduffie and Reid get enough flashy stops to be well known. Those in the trenches, not so much. That #69 blocking Trent Williams and still getting to CMC was just spectacular. I don’t remember seeing that angle during the game. Great work! 👏🫶

Lots of folks complaining about the 1st half being boring. I found it fascinating and nail biting watching these elite defenses strut their stuff. Condolences to Niners and their fans. This is one of those games where both teams were deserving of victory. I hope everyone comes back healthy and 100 percent next season. Good luck.

    • @t4d0W

      Spags was always one of the best blitz heads. You didn't hear much of it when his defense was just Chris Jones and a shaky secondary. Hell he busted out run blitzes to foil with the Niners O-line zone blocking and cut at their weakness which is interior blocking. That is why he had Chenal taking up B or C gaps and turning potential explosive CMC runs into solid 4-7 yard stops.

    Great video covering a somehow still underrated unit. It points out something I've been saying all playoffs against the "Why don't they keep running the ball against them?" narrative that the media and fans keep saying. It's like they don't understand how much the Chiefs defense is forcing the opposing team to abandon the run because it's shut down for the most part. They're just seeing stats from a few broken plays and thinking that's what the average would be. The run defense during this playoff run was severely overlooked and this breaks it down fantastically.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. Like Spags sure looks 'ballsy' with his approach and play choice for adjustments but he literally drew the line on the sand on the first half. He sold out to defend the Niners run offense (inside specifically) and the run blitzes to plug the B/C gaps so CMC would need to bounce outside but also had the Chiefs big dudes waiting. People don't realize at worse Kyle gets his and the Niners offense puts up 2-3 TDs by the first half so then Mahomes has to go beyond magical on an obvious Chiefs passing script. The fact Spags got that Niners offense on 10 points by half time meant he's figured out the Niners run offense and just had to not let the pass game kill them. Considering the Niners offense is one of the most explosive all season long in the first half and even in the 2nd half against some teams.

  • @theresaherman
    @theresaherman 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Old guy here. Fantastic breakdown of the Chiefs defense, especially their Dline. They had role playing big men on that Dline that nobody’s ever heard. Mike Pennel was a huge run stopper. Chris Jones gets all the headlines, as he should, because he blew up several key plays. None bigger than the 3rd and 4 from the KC 8 yardline in OT. SF right side Oline missed a block and Jones came through untouched to almost crush Purdy. If you watch the replay, you’ll see that #38 Sneed, falls down and by the time he gets back up, Aiyuk is wide open in the end zone. If Purdy has enough time to set his feet, it’s an easy TD pass. If KC wants to go for the 3peat, they need to Jones big time and find a way to keep Sneed. Because they need that “sticky” man coverage.
    Great video.

    As the saying goes, "Offense wins games, but defense wins championships!" That sums up this season for KC in a nutshell. The quality of the Chiefs' offense as a whole (though Mahomes was still as good as ever individually, he had far fewer weapons in his arsenal than in prior seasons) in the regular season was visibly poorer than it had been at any other time since KC started dominating the AFC a few years ago. This led to a much steeper mountain to climb in the playoffs, as KC had to play 3 postseason games to win the AFC title instead of the usual 2, and all but the first one were on the road instead of at Arrowhead. The combination of Mahomes doing just enough on offense and the defense coming through more than ever before in the postseason was what allowed the Chiefs to repeat as champions.

      You can say the Niners were the better team. But the Chiefs defense matched up well with what Shanahan's offense likes to do. Chiefs were great against zone runs this season so Niners had to hammer them inside. Since Niners couldn't really do that, Spags just had to adjust for the passing attack. Meanwhile Niners defense stuck to zone while being porous against the run. Can't stop Mahomes/Reid with zone coverage and Pacheco has been a tactical advantage when teams can't stop him on the ground in the playoffs.
      Also Niners interior O-line was already working with a stacked deck. They made it harder on themselves with their zone blocking rules to keep pulling guards while not keeping the Chiefs interior DLs or blitzers outside in check. Feliciano getting injured was just the nail that hit the coffin for that group. Put way too much on Trent Williams whom Spags was also ready for one on one match ups.

    • @kevinbrennan-ji1so
      @kevinbrennan-ji1so 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@t4d0WThe Chiefs defense matched up well with every team, because they were a damn good defense (and better with Omenihu). But I thought the Niners ran just fine in the game. They struggled in pass blocking and dealing with some of the exotic blitzes, including the 3rd-and-5 with 2 minutes left, where the Chiefs had only 2 down linemen, 2 linebackers and 7 DBs. I applaud Spags' gameplan and his calls, but let's be honest - if the Niners block just decently on those key plays, they win the game.
