Im 43 and this song transfers me to another plain of existence. Its magical. Somedays i feel sad, some happy but there’s always hope there. In my top 5 songs ever.
My eldest brother died a month ago. I wanted to fly to his bedside, but we were estranged. May your Mum & my brother be at peace, with our merciful, loving Lord. With hugs, & blessings to you & yours!
So many songs that still resound from the 60s to now. These songs are timeless. Each one means something to you from the past. Some bring a tear for lost youth, others lost loves, others dreams that do or did not come true. Now we are old and still have the same feelings.
Always brings a tear to my eye this song when I listen to this . My wife has been through so much in her life from an abusive father and alcoholic mother somehow survived rape and struggled through so much humiliation and poverty... she never let go of her faith in God and even turned me a former atheist into a believer again. She gave me so much hope and inspiration in my life and continues to do so! :')
My mother and my Aunts loved The Andy Williams Show and of course he was one of their very favorites! Great memories of being a young guy (pre-teen in the early 1960s) and watching that show with them. I miss them all.
This takes me back to the river when I was a kid. I lived on it like Tom Sawyer. At night when there was a full moon I'd go there and high up on a bank I'd sit on the grass and look down at it with all the city lights way in the background..... I lived the life of a Drifter as well as I grew older. Perhaps one of my most favourite of all songs and so beautifully done by Andy Williams as well as many others.
This song reminds me of when I first heard it on TV. My mom and dad and my sisters all gathered around the TV....so long ago....such great times. I miss so much.
There's a reason this song won an academy award... and you just heard it. Mancini (music) and Mercer (lyrics) wrote a gem and Williams polished it for eternity.
Andy Williams did not sing the version used in Breakfast at Tiffany's, released in 1961. A chorus sang the film's credits version, and Audrey Hepburn, for whose pleasant but untrained and limited voice Mancini tailored the song, sang it during the movie. Williams did not record the song until 1962, and was the one to sing it at the Academy Awards, but he was not involved in the award-winning version. Andy Williams was not even the first to cover the song, Jerry Butler and Danny Williams having done so before he did. I personally prefer Andy's polished version to that of Audrey Hepburn, but there are plenty of people who prefer her poignant rendition.
Andy Williams is so great, especially his singing in off beat is so graceful and beautiful. I would feel nobody can sing as just like him "Moon River"(90yrs.Japanese)
I like all sorts of vocalists from several musical styles... metal, rock & rock, reggae, pop, and folk. But Andy Williams has one of the best singing voices ever, imo. Watching this reminds of something. My mom and I were watching a rerun of the Andy Griffith Christmas Special on Christmas Day in 2017, and she passed away just 9 days later. I've never been more sad than those 9 days, and the couple of months leading up to that. The pain I had on the day I had my appendix and gall bladder removed about 2 months ago doesn't compare.
I must have listened to this recording on my mom's record player a thousand times when I was growing up. I still love to hear it. One of the best recordings ever.
My god he's always had the most beautiful voice ever. I totally love his singing, so pure, simple and effortless with his higher notes. He is my #1 as far as singers goes. Can't get enough. Thanks for all the memories and music Mr. Williams.

1961 and I, an 18 year old US Army private arrived in Germany in December. Kinda excited, a little homesick, and full of feelings for the girl I left in the US. This was one of our favorite songs. Now at 78 years old it still brings back memories. What a different time then vs now and how things have changed. Thanks for the memories Andy. Ron Fox
What memories. I'm 70 and still love this. The Henry Mancini Orchestra backing Mr. Williams who is long gone now. I believe this beautiful piece of music came from Breakfast At Tiffany's. Reminds me always to my ex husband. This is his most fav song. We went to US together ( two drifters off to see the world😪). After many years there, we went separate ways. I go back to my home country and he is still in US until now.
Magnifico. His voice both as instrument and as a range of expression . Notice this rarity for a singer : he almost never takes his hands out of his pockets to gesture or to emphasize. He let's his facial expressions and ,most importantly, his spectacular voice ranges to tell the story in a most marvelous way . A masterpiece by an underrated singer.

One of the best combinations ever of song and singer. I think I was about 5 or 6 when Mama got this album and I grew up with it. Thanks, Columbia Record Club!
Andy Williams had such a unique voice like no other and sang some of the greatest songs and lived by all. Kinda disappointed that we don't see his Christmas specials on TV anymore. RIP
For those of us 60 and beyond there will never be music like this again. I'm 65 and I remember mom and dad holding each other tightly and dancing too this in the living room as it played on the stereo.

My parents introduced me to Andy Williams when I was a youngster. I will be 60 at the end of the year. I just love his music so much and do I ever miss him.
@williampilling32 I am in my 40s also. This song brings me into a world, which is unknown to me. The world of 50s/60s. Yes, another plain of existence. 1961 to be précised. I feel very peaceful listening to it. I used to feel sad hearing this song, and think of all the beauty had past away, lives had gone astray. But after finding God, a hope with reality is added onto this song. Sadness becomes gracious, all the sad songs from 20s to 60s have turned into thankful and hopeful. Moon-river is now my happy friend, to the very end. 😀

I took my wife to his place in Branford and Ann Murry was there also. Magical. Being born in the 1950s he was a part of my life through the 1960s. He was one of the voices of Christmas.
In my opinion probably the most beautiful song composed and having Andy Williams singing it just adds to its perfection! He let's his facial expressions and ,most importantly, his spectacular voice ranges to tell the story in a most marvelous way . A masterpiece by an underrated singer.
Well said.
Isn't he lip-syncing?
@@kevincallaghan326 He well may be but that does not change the fact of HOW he uses both his facial expressions and his voice pitch and ranges to convey the song's message.
No , he is not.
Toujours aussi émouvant. En souvenir d'Audrey !
One of the best combinations ever of song and singer. I think I was about 5 or 6 when Mama got this album and I grew up with it. Thanks, Columbia Record Club!

one of those unmistakable voices, something rare now a days
He was from my home state Iowa he was born in wall lake I saw him in Branson Mo
Andy Williams had such a unique voice like no other and sang some of the greatest songs and lived by all. Kinda disappointed that we don't see his Christmas specials on TV anymore. RIP
I love this song. His voice
melts my heart.
Mine too❤
😊 Only 64, I agree!
I personally like Moon River sung by Andy Williams because the voice and melody match perfectly.
For those of us 60 and beyond there will never be music like this again. I'm 65 and I remember mom and dad holding each other tightly and dancing too this in the living room as it played on the stereo.
Darth.... There are excellent young singer coming that certainly have the ability to sing fantastic songs, see Lucy Thomas Music..an 18 year old with a fantastic singer with skill beyond belief, and has been acclaimed the best singer around !!! Check her out !!!
Such a beautiful music
This song was in the 60's. My growing up years. I love those years.
Absolutely amazing ... Love it ! 💕
Absolutely one of the iconic voices of the 60's

Andy Williams singing this can’t be beat in my very humble opinion!
That era of music was sooooooo good. Never to be matched or duplicated. Andy Williams was such a special singer.

It is such a joy to be able to see and hear Andy Williams in this time and age. I am in my 70s too. Thank you for these timeless oldies

Who is with me when i say.. This is the 'Bestest' music ever ever ever... Singers of today eat your heart out... & listen to the simplicity of real talent ... being in my 70's this is what we cut our teeth on so to speak..Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
Of course me right there as 2 drifters on the move sailing ⛵ across and longitudinally going no where but too much fun !! Sorry I am a girl Christie Spencer-Cox and not Jonathan!!!!!!
@@jonathancox4189 That's fine Christine..As you can see , I 'piggy back' on my husbands google account... The music is so magic & so easy to get totally lost in the atmosphere it creates . As you so correctly put......Simply 2 drifters off to see the world & enjoying the journey regardless of whether they find the rainbow end or not ... Peggy Wood
I took my wife to his place in Branford and Ann Murry was there also. Magical. Being born in the 1950s he was a part of my life through the 1960s. He was one of the voices of Christmas.
Wow,what a wonderful story and memeory,I would love to hear more about it ,details plse
In my opinion probably the most beautiful song composed and having Andy Williams singing it just adds to its perfection! It reduces me to tears each time I hear it making me think of the movie and the loss I have experienced in my life..my heart is broken and will never mend...this song brings the memories of the ones I loved and are gone... Thank you Henry Mancini...Johnny Mercer...and Andy Williams
I sang with him when I was 5 at the Moon River Theater during his Christmas show. He sat in a big chair and we sat on stage with him and sang carols. I was devastated when he died.

Sadly I was born in the 2000’s and not the 60’s but I still listen to crooner classics with my grandfather
In this day and time, the nostalgia of this music of this time is so refreshing.

Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waiting round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me

素晴らしいですね!
I'm going down memory lane today. This beautiful song was the one we danced to at our wedding reception. It's the ONLY nice memory I have of that husband. We both crossed the Moon River years later but not together.
