I’m from the south in the states. I honestly believe that right now with the polarization of politics in the NFL the CFL has a great opportunity to get in touch with the fans of football here in America. I have been following the CFL for a couple of years now and I know many football fans want to watch football but they don’t because of the politics. I would like to see more exposure from the CFL here in America.

If you can you fans hooked in that crucial age range from 11 to 17 years of age, then you might have fans for life. For adults, that is a seven year period of time. For adolescents, that is a lifetime. They form attachments to teams and the individual stars of teams if the media and teams front office has good ideas for connecting fans with the players. More important than ticket promotions or halftime concerts. Name recognition, signed jerseys, reflection on the past positive football experience, reflecting on a hard fought victory on a Sunday afternoon go a long way to establishing devoted fans.

As a US fan ESPN broadcast deal was easier to work than CBS Sports. But here’s some ideas
A quality CFL video game. Where non-Canadian fans can learn the intricacies of the rule differences between American and Canadian football through experience
Getting CFL merchandise more easily available in the US (there’s only one or two sites that sells CFL merch in the US with limited selection)
Quality 30-for-30 style documentary about the US expansion in the 90s. Or the feature film “Kick” about the Ti-cats getting finished

Want to grow the league then start with the grassroots beginning with the community football and high schools. Need hype to their local teams. Then promote USports football so fans know the players that would be drafted in the CFL. Have a game of the week televised of USports football and have the Vanier Cup on the Saturday, day before the Grey Cup, promoting Canadian football weekend at the university and pro level. And finally the CFL needs to highlight the star players each team has. Canada sports channels like Sportsnet and especially TSN have to be a lot better at showing USports football and CFL.

Have to get more exposure of University Sports. Why can't CBC broadcast more games on a Saturday. Young people can follow their favorite players into the CFL.

They should play pre-season games in smaller cities in the United States, to get more exposure in there, gaining more fans watching real CFL games and it's players.

They need to market their stars and the game in a NFL style but also try to highlight unique aspects.

So, a Russian here, I found out about CFL in late 2000s when CFL was on Russian TV. Came back to CFL last year, I was searching for something interesting to watch and CFL came up to my mind and I found CFL much more interesting than NFL.
And I see that CFL isn't that popular... that's a huge problem, CFL is a great league, games are pretty great, players are great... but league is doing almost nothing to promote itself. It just exist.

Many Canadians like the US television game. The presentation is a lot better. I do believe that the faster Canadian game itself is a lot better though, however it has lost a lot of appeal because of the commercialization of the game. Why go to a game when it is constantly being stopped for commercials? The game just dies. In addition although they've taken the adverts off the actual field they show them on the TV screens and players wear them on their jerseys. It just looks cheap as opposed to the American counterpart. If you go to a Canadian university game you can see how the game was intended to be played. No ads. Timeouts are non existent. It's a very fast game. I understand the idea behind pro football is to make a few bucks for both the players and the teams, but does it have to be so in your face? Back in the day they ran mini ads right on the screen during a huddle. You could watch the game and the ads at the same time. The ads were entertaining and didn't interfere with the flow or play of the game at all. I stopped going to the games because of the constant timeouts for commercials and won't be going back anytime soon. I watch on television because it has become more of a television game.
