  • On Wednesday 18th May, the Annual Languages Society Open Mic Night was held thanks to the many participants who agreed to take part. We were treated to several poems such as two German poems performed fluently by Thanassi Ghertsos & Charlie Keane and Leyla Baser, a Spanish one performed and simultaneously translated by Giselle Atkinson-Hieber and Sofia Tangsrud, an extract in Ancient Greek read by Carlo Galliani and Seb Hughes, a Russian classic by Pushkin performed by Andrii Mamakin and a French Fable by Paul Ostroverhy. Some audience participation was needed for some tongue-twisters performed by Maddie Baker, Gwen Grovit and Ally ter Haar in French and German tongue-twisters performed by Philipp Benedic including the longest German word containing 79 letters. We also had some music in the form of an impressively accurate Chinese rap performed by Simon Ren, a French canon performed by Fr4A, a Modern Greek song by Philippos Konstantopoulos, a Spanish one by Federico Riojas and a German duet by Clara and Mrs Tearle in German.
Thanks very much to Mr Goulding for organizing the filming, Henry Williams for being in charge of the sound on the night, and to Freddy Kelly-Greaves for presenting the evening.
