dude this anime has like 0 recognition. this anime/novel is such an interesting take on story telling and i enjoyed being riddled every episode. i would read the novel but... im lazy haha. i just wish someone would dissect each an every episode and explains whats so good about them. also thanks for your cool vid. keep on my dude !
i say the anime failed adapting the novels, they tried adapting 6 novels in 18 episodes, the first novel/arc in the anime left out so much characterization and left out an important character (kimura akio, kamikishiro naoko's secret lover)
Boogiepop phantom has that dark and eerie atmosphere that I really enjoy seeing in a psychological anime. Also, the OST is exquisite. The 2019 series I liked it because it was nice to see the adaptation of the novel, but I didn't enjoyed it that much. I really recommend the light novels, they are really intriguing and captivating.
I got around to watching Boogiepop Phantom despite not making a review of it, so I thought I’d share my thoughts here: It owned so hard. It perfectly captured the feel of the novels and had the balls to use the format of the novels despite it being an anime, which-surprise-ended up working. Big time. It’s officially sanctioned fanfiction (non-derogatory) in the best way possible. If you like it, read the novels. It still kinda surprises me that it’s such a classic for anime-onlies because I feel like I wouldn’t have understood anything without the first novel. Some of its horror is straight up focused on twisting your knowledge of Book 1 into an uncomfortable shape, so I can’t imagine how that would hit without that knowledge.
I might buy the whole novel series thanks to you. I almost finished watching the animation so I wanted to know more about the universe and I was not disapointed ;) I watched your two videos on the subject.

Frankly, I was a little underwhelmed by the novel. But the anime was awesome.
