Bananas! I started making videos about a year ago for my own benefit and because I thought a few people might be interested, I'm not a videographer I'm a mechanic so I have had to learn the whole thing as I go. The biggest problem I have is that I get too caught up in the analytics and chasing numbers rather than making the content in a way that I enjoy.

Everyone's gone bananas! I love when people who have no clue about videography start filming themselves doing a hobby or whatever and it turns into something amazing! And then it's a new skill you've developed too. I mean, everyone at some point had no clue how to film, I'm still learning too (clearly can't even position myself in frame)
I haven't checked my analytics for over a week and it's quite a good feeling! Numbers are cool to see, but it's even cooler to get a few comments like this 😀

bananas . loved this takeonevlog. i made hundreds of vlogs just for the sake of it. they may be quite hard to watch/ boring for the viewer, but they were invaluable in my own growth, getting comfortable, trying to be myself more on camera and i still struggle with it, probably will always struggle with it. I think as creators we just want to make videos that we like and that are well received by like-minded people. you achieved that in this video for me. make more of these.

Yaaay bananas!! I'm definitely going to go back and watch your oldest vlogs now haha. I watch your justvlog channel but haven't checked out the videos on this one. Gonna see how it all started and how you've grown as a creator (is it bad I'm hoping your first vlogs were cringy? 😝)
That's exactly it! Like who are we actually making the videos for? Ourselves, sure, but also it's cool when you find others that like your content and understand what is it you're trying to convey. That's why I love the NSC community so much because we're all very like-minded

Yesss Emma! Do it! I think it will be beneficial for your students/viewers to see how you talk naturally with no preparation. I guess they've seen it before with your lives but maybe you could do a #takeonevlog video celebrating your 100k when you get your silver play button?!!!!! And then they have to comment what filler words you used, or write some adjectives you used. Might be fun!

Bananas! I know where you are coming from about making content to suit your audience. I do photography vlogs and I know exactly which camera I should pick up if I want to get views BUT it's not the direction I want to be taking all the time, so go for it and do the vlogs you want and mix it up a bit, it's easy to drop those into a new playlist. As for speaking comfortably on camera (especially outdoors), I think that's a British thing, I find it very hard to put on my happy, over enthusiastic TH-camr persona which seems to come second nature to Americans. I can't ever see me opening a video with a big overboard 'Hey, what's up You Tube!'

Loving all the bananas comments! Yeah it's just about finding the balance right? As a photographer you definitely want to explore your creativity too. Like you said, I could always make a different playlist and upload vlog style videos just a few times a month and then have the more searchable/watchable content as my regular stuff.
Oh my gosh, after uploading this I watched some other people's #takeonevlog videos and this one guy was walking through a busy airport without a care in the world (so it seemed). I got nervous for him just watching! The thing is, in real life I'm quite outgoing and I would probably bust into a party like "hey whats up guys!" but on camera I seem awkward doing it because it's like...who am I talking to?! But clearly I have a few people who eagerly watch so I've just got to keep that in mind and visualise you and others I'm talking to.

BANANAS! Haha. I really liked your honesty and I think its just important to be yourself. I agree that youtubers who edit their videos to perfection can come across as not really authentic. I understand that they probably do this for a living and the production quality needs to be pristine but it can be a bit much sometimes. Anyways, I'm excited to see where your channel is headed and the content of your new videos! Are you in Indonesia yet? I'm jealous..... Getting cold here in New York. I need some warm weather in my life lol!

For sure some people treat it as a proper business and have a full on team behind them! That's understandable. But then there are some who do it for a living and they don't have so much production value, like the videos seem kinda low quality but they still make money from it. Guess it depends on everyone's own preference really! I think I'm gonna kinda do a mix of both.
Yes I'm in Indonesia now!! I just transitioned here by the magic of my new video lol. I've just escaped the UK winter and now I'm sat with my AC on full blast haha. Good luck in NY!
P.S Thanks for acknowledging the bananas hahaha

    Bananas 🍌
It’s very difficult be completely natural and act normal because standing in a field and talking to your camera is not really a normal thing to do !
I’m starting to get used to it after 30 or so videos but feel I still do not come across as my usual self. Hopefully that will change soon, I’m much more fun in real life, honest 🤣
I do lots of ums and it’s quite natural I think. My watch time per video is increasing so people are either enjoying the videos or just putting up with me, either way I’m grateful 🤣🤣
I would say be yourself (as much as you can) and your style will come naturally. The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy what you do
    Best Wishes
    Tim

Yay more bananas! At least it was an empty field and not one with the giant cows of England. Also just as I was about to start there was some Farmer Jones and I got scared.
I think we're on the same page - I've also done around 30 videos now and I feel like something just pinged, starting to find my flow. Yeah I quite like the ums! I watch some people and they never seem to breathe, jump cut every little pause. I get panicky just watching haha..
