Don Corleone I need a man who has powerful friends. I need a million dollars in cash. I need, Don Corleone, all of those politicians that you carry around in your pocket, like so many nickels and dimes.
I've watched a lot of videos on TH-cam, and I must say that this in my opinion is the MOST informative and definitive video on training lats on TH-cam! Thank you!
5 minutes in and I already like this guy. Seems passionate about this and actually cares about preventing injuries from unnecessary stress on other parts of the body.
This and AthleanX are the best exercise channels. I'm a recently certified personal trainer and I have already learned so much from every one of the videos I've watched.
I just found my new online trainer. I've been training weights 4 to 5 days each week since 2014 and I've always found building my rear shoulders very difficult. Just 2 weeks of using some exercises you posted on shoulders has got me seeing very noticeable growth in that stubborn area now. Thanks a million. same thing with my upper chest Now I'm gonna target another stubborn area with your tips, my Lats.
Hey James, quick question: If I'm trying to add mass and put weight on at the gym, do I still want to do high rep sets? I understand it's important to get that mind-muscle connection and have a warm up set, but am I really going to build as much muscle doing 20 rep sets as opposed to 6 or 8 rep sets at much higher weight?
To build mass you want to use the heaviest weight you can for atleast 8-10 reps with good form and still have that mind muscle connection. Squeeze and feel the muscle and use the heaviest weight. But let's see what our new friend says....
+Big AK...I saw a study that says you don't have to lift heavy to build muscle...not that I agree, just saying that's the new school of thought out there.
It is obvious that you have considerable experience, and you express your insights in a positive and understandable way. This may be the best channel on the subject. Keep them coming, and thanks for sharing.
Been lifting for 10 years and you are by far the best channel I've found. Each time I go try something you taught me and it works incredibly. Thanks man!
+James Grage - The Muscle Geek James you give the best advice, I have learned a lot from your vids thanks dude. Oh and 1MR Vortex is one of my favourite pre workouts it's rocket fuel.
Hey my friend. Heavy is a relative to each individual. I encourage you to go as heavy as possible, as long as you can maintain good technique and still target the desired muscle, without having to over-engage additional muscles to assist in the movement.
Yeah I can buddy I'm fit and workout. I don't focus on rep range but endurance. Trust me, focus on getting your body use to endurance and you'll see. Your body can do anything once it gets use to it. Hell people can lift 1000 pounds, you don't think your body can't lift the whole stack? You must have weak and pathetic connection with your body.
I keep stumbling on these previously recorded videos, and I cant resist tell you that these videos are unquestionably the best and most informational fitness videos that I can find on youtube. Id love to see a video on how to work traps, and the middle portion of the back. Thats been a particular weakness for me. LOVE the work! keep it up.
You know it's quality content when you get a new subscriber with just one video. Lucid explanations of the *correct* form. I know these already but it's going to be so beneficial for those new or willing to learn. Good job!
Close grip underhands are the best kind of pulldown for your lats. Wide grip overhand actually has more activation from the Teres Major, not the lats. Jeff Cavaliere has a video on this
Wide overhand, medium to narrow overhand and then medium to narrow underhand super set is the only way I can burn my lats out, such a large muscle assisted by so many smaller ones, back always seems to take the most mind muscle connection
honestly, one of the most informational videos I have watched,I think that your knowledge is really on point & very beginner friendly, seriously keep up the good work!
This is the best instructional video I've seen on training Lats. Very detailed! Also, it may help to exaggerate the contraction for a 3 second hold to ensure you're connecting with the Lat.
yeah, I wanna see and hear it all bro. Love your work. I even got frustrated because, at 4:07 you get done talking about the single arm pulldown in relation to simulating the behind the beck pull down (or as a variation of it), and then you don't show the demonstration. The video cuts to just after you do the exercise. Not sure if you cut it to cut down time, but yeah. Don't worry about the time. We love hearing your knowledge. If you think it is important enough to include in the video or say in the video, we want to hear it regardless of the video length. The real people who care and watch these will Appreciate the length, rather than dread it.
Homo or no homo? I love this guy too, but no homo. LOL. All jokes aside, I've tried most of his training and they do work better. @James Thanks for these great videos. You have the best fitness channel on TH-cam.
For months now I am trying to get rid of the ego and lift correctly and heavy enough. Sometimes it's hard to quit adding weight but in the end, it will pay off. I still get laughs from the "huge" guys in the gym that lift super heavy (huge = maybe in a good leg day, their legs are the some size as my arms). Stay strong!
My legs I can kill with a lot of weight. And I get the stares when it's Leg Day. It's not the social hour, dammit!! I get the same comment about my arms, Horea. When I put people through what I do (and I rarely dedicate a day for arms), they're crying by the time we start the second set!! LOL
Okay ! hands down this is the best video on back i have ever seen... and man when he starts explaining the dumbbell rowing.. man i am like whoaaaaaa !!!!!! Keep up the good work sir !!!! Respect !!
Man im so glad you put this videos, and im so gald that i used those techniques too, like everyone in the gym said to me at least one time," Man why are you doing it like that? why so light? your crazy???" and the boom i get bigger than most! im learning a lot more. Thanks!
After years seeing so many bullshit on youtube finally a honest person that know how to teatch and try to help people instead of parasiting them. I will recomend your channel to all people that i know. Keep going brother. Good Job.
I tried those exercises the way you do it in the video 3 hours ago, and I had never felt my lats like today, everything that you say in the vid is right. Thank you for share your knowledge in yt and sorry for my odd english, greetings from Argentina.
THANK YOU!!! I needed this one. Just last week I took back progress photos and noticed my "lack" in Lats. Definitely going to use what you explained. Can't wait for your workout. Hopefully it will air before my next back day:) Much appreciation for these videos!
I am seriously loveing your breakdowns and workouts. Im still power lifting but im doing your workout before. I started watching at the beginning of this series and I'm blowing up.
This guy really knows what he's doing. Subbed right away. I'm finally learning how to properly lift, and the gains are coming way faster with less weight.
Dude! I have been working on my lats for almost a year now and there's very minimum development. Your video made a lot of sense to me. I'll try these out, I'm just glad that I found your video. Thanks for this.
You give multiple options using bars, dumbells or cable which is helping me a lot to do little variations for same muscle group in each week, which in turn is very important for overall muscle development. Thanks Man !!
I watched a lot of videos on youtube, but you man your videos your information and details your way to explain your options for training are the best. really you collects a hundreds of vids in one! the only channel i am waiting for every week, keep going
James Grade - Man, I felt my lats working today! That was awesome. Thanks to your explanation of how lats work I finally did the dumbbell row correct. Before I couldn't feel my lats working. But now I know how to make them work. Thanks a lot!
wow it's the first time i see you in youtube. i've seen a lot of guys explaining different types of workout, but your way is much better and understandable. great job
First video of you I've watched. All I'll say is I'll be watching more. I like the way you make videos, keeping it sharp, you cut to the chase and show exercises. I haven't seen any other channel that gives me what I'm looking for. Athlean X videos are entertaining for sure. Your video gave me the most chewed information possible and made me want to go to the gym and try your advice. I'm amazed. And I don't write many comments.
Oh man just finished back using these tips and got an INSANE burn using the 20-10-10-15 rep method. Usually my forearms or even delts will burn out first, but now the lactic acid burn directly in the LATS is CRAZY. Thanks so much I can't wait to show off my cobra wings
why does he only have 40K subs when this channel is actualy usefull and informational, cmon guys share this :D ps. just found this chanell 2 days ago, awesome content james :D
Great video. He broke it down perfectly it's about getting the movement right even if that means using lighter weight. You have to give up ground to gain ground.
james i just want to say thank u very much for ur advanced training techniques. ive been on this journey now for a yr and a half. And ive lost a total of 100 pounds between cardio and weight training. But ive been focusing more on weight training the last 6months. And once i watched ur videos. I've seen tremendous improvements. all because of ur small but critical tips on posture and technique. thx u very much because I've been super motivated in the gym. keep up the good work. ur helping alot of people. because im passing it on to my friends. have a great day.
So helpful James!! Been going lifter to isolate and have noticed gains and not the pain of damn near injuring myself!! Thanks for the teaching!! Keep it up!!
My top 3 for lats: 1. Pull-ups and all pull-up variations (chin-up, neutral grip, mixed grip, etc.) 2. Unilateral cable pulldown 3. Straight arm lat pushdown
i always did many of these exercises in wrong form.... your knowledge is impressive thanks for teaching right form... this video is really helpful no one ever taught me this much correct. thanks James.....
I accidentally ran into your videos but I must say that this has got be one of the most informative and straight to the point videos I have seen. Congratulations, you have provided very helpful information. Thank you very much and keep up the excellent work, I will be telling my friends about your videos. : )
Great demonstration. Its very simple to perform an exercise not having the targeted muscle involve mentally. Mentally involving the muscle is just as important as physically involving the muscle. Pumping blood=growth.
Ayyy I found this video again. I used to follow this back workout and saw amazing, visually appealing results. I've come back to it after a long hiatus from working out.
Thanks James. I'm learning a lot from your videos. I'm a +60 guy returning to lifting. The fantasy, of course, is to be one of those +60 guys who develop an "amazing" body after 6 months and then continues to improve. But I'll be a realist and just keep working to tighten and tone and improve. Both muscle tone and aerobic activity. I'm doing this to stave off the reality of aging. I'm fighting as best I can.
I see so many guys swinging and leaning back when doing lat pull downs, their main focus is to pull as much weight as they can regardless of shitty form. Check your ego at the door guys! Great video by the way, very informative 👍🏼
Excellent content as always. After watching the back training series I understand now why I have "high" lats and a thick upper back so will implement the advice you have given.
One never really stops to learn. There is always somebody out there that can teach you and correct your overlooking of small, but relevant, detail. One cannot thank enough , not even close enough, the benevolent teacher. Many, many thanks, teacher.
Great stuff. It took me years to figure out these techniques on my own: pulling from the elbow and disengaging the biceps; arc motion. I also have hand holds that help. No one has done a video on that.
no backgroundmusic. good volume and great demonstrations :). award for best TH-cam video
simple and consise explanations and what ppl do wrong.
truth
This is the best video on lat training I've seen. So straightforward, easy and void of filler.
I like this guy. No nonsense no bs.
Don Corleone I need a man who has powerful friends. I need a million dollars in cash. I need, Don Corleone, all of those politicians that you carry around in your pocket, like so many nickels and dimes.
The most accurate video on wideness of lats. You know what builds wideness and what builds thickness. Excellent Knowledge
I've watched a lot of videos on TH-cam, and I must say that this in my opinion is the MOST informative and definitive video on training lats on TH-cam! Thank you!
Very informative
Agreed. I haven't been feeling my back lately and hes just helped me see why
Look at geff nippard as well he is on par and better in a couple other things athlean this dude and nippard and you literally can NOT go wrong
I just found my new online trainer.
I've been training weights 4 to 5 days each week since 2014 and I've always found building my rear shoulders very difficult. Just 2 weeks of using some exercises you posted on shoulders has got me seeing very noticeable growth in that stubborn area now. Thanks a million.
same thing with my upper chest
Now I'm gonna target another stubborn area with your tips, my Lats.
Just found you on TH-cam and I have to say you are one of the best as information and training the right way.
Thanks my friend!
Hey James, quick question: If I'm trying to add mass and put weight on at the gym, do I still want to do high rep sets? +Big AK...I saw a study that says you don't have to lift heavy to build muscle...not that I agree, just saying that's the new school of thought out there.
You need progressiv overload, enough protein and sleep above al to build mass. 5x5 program works well for example.
It is obvious that you have considerable experience, and you express your insights in a positive and understandable way. This may be the best channel on the subject. Keep them coming, and thanks for sharing.
These are the best videos for real world explanations
Thanks Justin!
Been lifting for 10 years and you are by far the best channel I've found. Each time I go try something you taught me and it works incredibly. Thanks man!
Priceless information! Thanks mate and greetings from Germany!
Thanks my friend~
I have been training 30 plus years and you are the best teacher I have ever seen Hughley impressed very big fan.
Love the clean cut explanations man keep up the great work!!!
Thanks Andy!
+James Grage - The Muscle Geek James you give the best advice, I have learned a lot from your vids thanks dude. Oh and 1MR Vortex is one of my favourite pre workouts it's rocket fuel.
Excited to try these methods. NO video is ever too long. The more, the better. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks my friend!
"don't go too heavy with these" *uses almost the entire stack*
The stack probably not to heavy for him obviously.
Hey my friend. Heavy is a relative to each individual. I encourage you to go as heavy as possible, as long as you can maintain good technique and still target the desired muscle, without having to over-engage additional muscles to assist in the movement.
I can do the entire stack no problem with good form. Bulid endurance and the gains will come aka stamina.
+nabbv sure you can buddy
Yeah I can buddy I'm fit and workout. I don't focus on rep range but endurance. Trust me, focus on getting your body use to endurance and you'll see. Your body can do anything once it gets use to it. Hell people can lift 1000 pounds, you don't think your body can't lift the whole stack? You must have weak and pathetic connection with your body.
Finally a guy who actually teaches you while training instead of just lifting heavy weights and trying to impress everyone. Keep this shit coming!!!!
I keep stumbling on these previously recorded videos, and I cant resist tell you that these videos are unquestionably the best and most informational fitness videos that I can find on youtube. Id love to see a video on how to work traps, and the middle portion of the back. Thats been a particular weakness for me. LOVE the work! keep it up.
The tips you have so kindly shown and demonstrated are truly the best ever. The variety of options are so "appetizing ".Thanks a million.

"Put it in your back pocket".
Best anology ever. It fucking burns as fuck.
Jeff Cavaliere has a video on this
lntimidating XBL Jeff is the truth
It also unfortunately hits the biceps hard and often they fail before the lats
lntimidating XBL wide grip 1.5more than your shoulder work best for your lats... (in my case)... check yourself which version works for you
lntimidating XBL closegrip chins with weight work great too
Wide overhand, medium to narrow overhand and then medium to narrow underhand super set is the only way I can burn my lats out, such a large muscle assisted by so many smaller ones, back always seems to take the most mind muscle connection
honestly, one of the most informational videos I have watched,I think that your knowledge is really on point & very beginner friendly, seriously keep up the good work!
500 likes and no dislikes. That says something about this channel and how good it is
This is the best instructional video I've seen on training Lats. Very detailed!
Also, it may help to exaggerate the contraction for a 3 second hold to ensure you're connecting with the Lat.
Best videos regarding bodybuilding hands down, thank you sir

Thanks James ! Keep them comeing there is no way your your channel is not going to get bigger. These video's are gold!

Grady Crittendon leaving the ego at the door and training with your brain is the best thing you can do.
I agree, smarter and safer to go lighter.
Guilherme Vaccari defo mate
This guys talks so much sense! since i focussed on form over increasing weight and squeezing. My development has come on leaps and bounds.
After watching your videos, I've realized how much I've done wrong and how much time I've wasted at gym doing non sense!!
Okay ! hands down this is the best video on back i have ever seen... and man when he starts explaining the dumbbell rowing.. man i am like whoaaaaaa !!!!!!
Keep up the good work sir !!!! Respect !!

Great video
Good work
Keep in up
Probably one of the best videos on ways to target lats. Thank you!
You give multiple options using bars, dumbells or cable which is helping me a lot to do little variations for same muscle group in each week, which in turn is very important for overall muscle development. Thanks Man !!

James Grade - Man, I felt my lats working today! That was awesome. Thanks to your explanation of how lats work I finally did the dumbbell row correct. Before I couldn't feel my lats working. But now I know how to make them work. Thanks a lot!
This is one of the best educational videos over biomechanics I've seen on TH-cam! You have a new dedicated subscriber.
wow it's the first time i see you in youtube. i've seen a lot of guys explaining different types of workout, but your way is much better and understandable. great job
OK I've watched about 10 vids now. This is undoubtedly one of the best bodybuilding channels there is.
Started watching your videos over the past week and can't stop watching! Keep up the great work
Thanks Scott!
Thanks, James. At 50, I am beginning training for my first show and really have to work to widen my back. I'll put these tips to work! God bless.
I'm amazed. And I don't write many comments.
hand on the muscle for mind muscle connection, best advice never given by anyone else! good job man!
Thanks my friend!
Oh man just finished back using these tips and got an INSANE burn using the 20-10-10-15 rep method. Usually my forearms or even delts will burn out first, but now the lactic acid burn directly in the LATS is CRAZY. Thanks so much I can't wait to show off my cobra wings
That's awesome! Happy to hear it my friend!
One of the top, if not best, videos on TH-cam for building lats 👍👌

My top 3 for lats:
1. Pull-ups and all pull-up variations (chin-up, neutral grip, mixed grip, etc.)
2. Unilateral cable pulldown
Great demonstration. Its very simple to perform an exercise not having the targeted muscle involve mentally. Mentally involving the muscle is just as important as physically involving the muscle. Pumping blood=growth.
Thank you for this. This is one of the best videos I’ve seen that explains the lats and their functions. This will change he way I look.
I like this video format, going through the workout while giving tips and giving reasons for why you do and do not do certain exercises.
Ayyy I found this video again. I used to follow this back workout and saw amazing, visually appealing results. I've come back to it after a long hiatus from working out.
by far the best workout page ... I try this routine the other day and I really feel the work ! keep it up
Waited all week for this video and you did not disappoint!! Brilliant as ever man!!!
Appreciate it my friend. Glad it didn't disappoint.
Doing Rewired right now and love the program, this is going to help me hit my lats on back day!
You really know what you're talking about, and I love your tips and exercises
Thanks James. I'm learning a lot from your videos. I'm a +60 guy returning to lifting. The fantasy, of course, is to be one of those +60 guys who develop an "amazing" body after 6 months and then continues to improve. But I'll be a realist and just keep working to tighten and tone and improve. Both muscle tone and aerobic activity. I'm doing this to stave off the reality of aging. I'm fighting as best I can.
Bravo. Thanks much - you're seriously educated on proper isolation and form.
I see so many guys swinging and leaning back when doing lat pull downs, their main focus is to pull as much weight as they can regardless of shitty form. Check your ego at the door guys! Great video by the way, very informative 👍🏼
what a great video! i love how informative and in depth this video is, its not just "do this" you explain. im a fan
wowwww ! finished back day 4 hrs back. again feeling like hitting the back after watching this.
great learning
The best video ive ever seen on training lats
this guy knows what he is doing
and i agree with what he said here
good job man
Excellent content as always. After watching the back training series I understand now why I have "high" lats and a thick upper back so will implement the advice you have given.
U left one of the best movements out there, and it,s been around for a long time, the machine pullover,it's all elbow.
One never really stops to learn. There is always somebody out there that can teach you and correct your overlooking of small, but relevant, detail. One cannot thank enough , not even close enough, the benevolent teacher. Many, many thanks, teacher.
underhand grip changed my life. the amount of control you have with underhand grip is insane. you can squeeze soooo well.
This is the most helpful channel ever
Perfect timing! Heading out the door for back day now, so stoked thanks
Awesome. Hit me back and let me know how you liked it
Great video man....most helpful lat video on you tube so far. Keep it coming.
Great stuff. It took me years to figure out these techniques on my own: pulling from the elbow and disengaging the biceps; arc motion. I also have hand holds that help. No one has done a video on that.
