I saw a spotted owl in it's natural environment about 15 years ago, at a dam outside of Boise ID. It took a crap above our picnic table. I told my kid's they'd never see that again..
There is no reason to clearcut old growth any more....and certainly does not benefit loggers and millers....just a couple dudes that had a grandpa named Weyerhauser make a 10% greater profit than mature 2nd growth cutting
Funny if you look into it you will see that the spotted owls are breeding with the bard owls and we had nothing to do with it. Second they do better near a clear cut (it opens their hunting ground). Third they have found them nesting in store signs.
I lived in Washington/Oregon in the 89's-90's and remember so well the hatred between the loggers and Spotted Owls. I was for the owls and so happy that they were designated on the endangered species. There should be protection for the forest outright!!!
This is incredible. The footage from the 80s is historic. There needs to be a documentary about this!

There is no record of Spotted owls in Idaho at all.....probably a barred owl, also a cool bird....they are a lot less shy than spotteds
These owls were here first before the Europeans arrived. Plus, they are a keystone species!!
