  • Engineering student Martijn Lammers, part of the team behind the world's "first solar-powered family car," claims most vehicles could be powered by the sun in future.
It won't be long before "people have a solar car on their driveway," Lammers says in the movie, which was filmed in Eindhoven at Dutch Design Week 2014.
"There's so much energy from the sun that's not being used," he explains. "It's still quite expensive to build [a solar-powered car], but within about 30 years solar cars could be a realistic way of transportation."

I don't think Onboard Solar cell vehicle is feasible in the foreseeable future(10 to 15 years or maybe never), unless there is a technological breakthrough in the efficiency of the solar cell technology. Can it be a side option for a car? Of course!

The SION from Sono Motors is "feasible" for more than 6000 people already.

Ordinary fossil Cars can be converted into Solar Panneled cars, much easily and can be made to run about 150 - 300 Km continuously with some Technical knowledge. You need not waite upto 10 - 15 years to come. But, one must have confidence in himself to take up the challenge to convert his car! Bye and good luck for pot poury.

Why lug around the weight of a solar panel on your car when you could just charge it with energy from wind/solar or whatever

Solar panels arent even that heavy, besides huge batteries for range are even heavier

Pinochet My Spaghett , with super thin flexible panels I think the weight is feasible, you have to have body panels any ways why not remove body panels and use solar panels instead. This way you can go far into the wild without needing recharging at some station.
