this is pretty stupid. Most mopeds don't make much noise. Target the noisy ones with more extreme fines/penalties. The ones making the noise are illegal...why punish the legal ones and busy up our roadways?
It's just biased against people with motorcycles and mopeds they've been targeted and attacked for many years by lawmakers and politicians and law enforcement
So basically people that aren't doing very well financially has to get screwed over even more? Chances are if you own a moped it's either as a backup or because you don't have money or really need an actual car. Lawmakers being pretty stupid right now. If you want to limit noise, you better go after all the motorcyclists and the hott-rodders too. Don’t be prejudiced only on mopeds. I live near ward ave, the noise on the weekends is crazy, and it’s not mopeds making all the noise. Lisa martin is blowing smoke up everybodies ass. And the rest of the lawmakers should work on getting rid of crime in our state not mopeds. Do something constructive instead of picking on mopeds. Harleys are way louder than mopeds will ever be. I know i used to ride harleys. Don’t go picking on the mopeds unless you are will to pick on the rest of the noise makers too
I agree totally, what about the new Mustangs, they are the loudest cars around, plus the Camaro, F-150s , GMCs , Lifted Chevrolets. All are loud as heck.
The noise pollution is an excuse to reduce gasoline vehicles. But electric mopeds will bring fire hazards problems to Hawaii. Dealing with out of control fires from damaged lithium-ion batteries would be huge problem for Hawaii's firefighters.

So isn't it better to regulate the modified scooter engines to control the sound. Most stock gas scooter engines are fairly quiet !

Electric: Bikes, Buses and cars are catching on fire & killing people. Lots of vids on this all over the world. Electric might be quiter but, its definately not safe.

Also, there is the matter of limited range for electrics. A rider can be left stranded when his battery power dies !
Yet we seldom learn much and catch on even with the repitition of history to how time and time again all throughout humanity we are so drastic to one side or the other, never do we examine things from other angles. Never do we consider the implications of such hastiness in making laws.
@nevillerosario6164 the range is very limited and more expensive, this isn't about noise its about control and pushing an agenda. I own several ev bikes and sold most off, it's a joke and a gimmick...you're paying double for less. The batteries alone cost as much as the bike

Gas mopeds are ok. Its the mopeds with aftermarket and modified exhaust that makes all the noise.
Lawmakers have their heads up their asses. How about enforcing laws instead of taking away the right to choose what we buy. Whats next baning gasoline cars? Why are unlicensed dirt bikes allowed on the road?
If they do that with mopeds they need to do it on cars motorcycles that have modified exhaust.
I remember legislators telling us that making mopeds go through the safety check process was going to solve the noise problem.

Lawmakers are rich, they have no need for mopeds. And even through they are supposed to serve the public and its needs, they serve the desires of the wealthy people who influence them.
Electric mopeds are just bad. 10× the price tag for 1/10th the performance. Recharging takes hours and the range is pathetic. The technology isn't even close.

You may as well ban ALL motorcycles. If the bike is maintained (working muffler), it makes the legal decibel limit on the date of manufacture. To make a new law to say now I can’t ride it is very unconstitutional

I dunno what these lawmakers are smoking. Most people in the world ride scooters that are pretty quiet and less pollution than cars. These sick politicians have no care or concept of others situations also who use scooter as a source of transportation as well. New York has become a sespool of stupid laws.

Yes Ban all gas mopeds the noise is coming from those highly modified illegal mopeds. Laws in place are not stopping the loud disturbing noise. They are also adding more carbon to the environment for to modified engines and exhaust systems. Banning gas powered mopeds would give the police more authority to finally stop the noise.
Those are scooters, which are a type of motorcycle. MoPeds are motorized pedal vehicles aka bicycle with an engine on it.

Gas powered leaf blowers should be banned. It is sickening having to listen to people/landscaping companies leaf blowing next to peoples houses for hours at a time starting at 7-8am in some places.
It's not even remotely possible, the amount of batteries they would have to carry to still not get a job finished is ridiculous. It's not self sustaining
No batteries needed to operate a broom and dust pan. No need to dirty everyones car with dust that gets kicked up by leaf blowers also.

Ok so a moped is loud but the Harley motorcycle the vibrates the ground is ok not that I have problems with them just pointing out the BS but at least I can hear them coming unlike the idiots on these ebikes that's rolling at 30-40 mph running red lights causing accidents and sending insurance premiums through the roof the ride with no laws and its ur fault for not seeing some idiot speeding down the street in the dark with no lights or reflective gear and loud mopeds is what has people upset wth make it make Sense people.

The state is going about this the WRONG WAY. What about the HARLEY's there more loud than mopeds; even sport bikes factory release, became louder than before. People need to see that a bike that you can hear is a safety thing for the rider. if you can hear it, your going to naturally look at it, then you are aware of where its at. Look at the rise in E-bike accidents, there very quiet and they come zipping around; less time to notice it.
I don't mind the sound. It's breathing the TOXIC EXHAUST in my face that I don't like. Cars don't do it, motorcycles don't do it, it's only mopeds for some reason.

Harley Davidson motorcycles are extremely loud in comparison. Mopeds are not loud. Newer ones are even less in tone.

The souped up mopeds are a problem but also the way mopeds are being driven. It's a though they aren't a vehicle and aren't a bike. They get driven on the freeway and bike lanes and parked in areas that cars cannot park. Doesn't help that they get a sticker that included them in the category of a bicycle.
