I can't thank you enough for supporting and sharing the Rare Bear program! I looked into Rare Science and completed an application on behalf of my eight year old daughter who was born with a brain tumor, an immature teratoma. Her case was only the seventh case known worldwide at the time of her diagnosis. Now that I've seen one of these precious bears in person, I'm even more excited to get involved so that I can help bring joy to another child. There will be a photo of her with her bear on her Facebook page: Naomi's Novel Neurons. It couldn't be uploaded here, which is disappointing. Thanks again, Rob!!

Thanks for doing this video Rob!! I've been making Rare Bears for about 2 years now. They do their best to get you a picture of the child who has picked your bear. I have my "girls" on my wall where I can pray for them! This is a great organization and I hope many people make bears!!

    • @dianab9267
      @dianab9267 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@pricillaturrentine3009 I think stabilizer would be fine. You can contact them to be sure, but they stuff them with polyfill so i don't see why stabilizer wouldn't be ok.

Hi Rob, I am a new quilter, and I do mean new. I am almost finished with my first quilt😊. Anyway I had sent for the rare bear last week, I hope it comes today. I also sent for 3 more to give to my grandchildren ages 9, 11 and 13 for a Christmas present. So that they can make them and know the real meaning of giving. Which is a happy feeling knowing you are going to put a smile on another child’s face. Thank you Rob.

What an awesome idea. I make performance/ competition tutus among other costumes and performance garments and often have very nice and beautiful fabrics left over, I think maybe i will do this with the scrap fabrics i have leftover from each tutu that i make and send the bear with a photo of the matching tutu it came from. I think it may be pretty special to know that the bears counterparts may be off dancing somewhere with a ballerina.

I love this pattern, I made the 22” bears for two young ladies who lost their dad just before Christmas out of old clothes of his. They turned out great and were super easy to put together.

Do two Girls really need 22 bears? (Just joking) anyway for filling I like to go to Ikea and buy their cheapest pillow its like 1- 2dollars and the filling is polyester so it works great as stuffing and its cheaper then polyfill in a fabric/ hobby store.

I was attempting to follow the pattern directions got so confused, I was ready to give up. Then searching TH-cam I came across your video. THANK YOU!!! Your video is very clear & easy to understand. I like the way you show how to hold/line up the fabric plus which way/direction to put fabric underneath the pressure foot, made sewing go smoothly! After watching this video, I have made 3 Memory Teddy Bears (without reading instructions). THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Gosh. I went to the rarescience website to sign up to make a bear, but they are only accepting folks from San Diego. I did, however, see a picture they posted of you, Alex and Jenny with your bears at the Houston Quilt Festival. That was so cool and I wish I could have been there! Maybe next year. Also, glad to see Houston getting back into the swing of things after the hurricane this year! Thanks, Rob for showing this. I started making a stuffed doll a few years ago and could not for the life of me figure out how to attach the head. Now I know. You're awesome.

I would like to volunteer for this cause. My question is: I have indoor animals, is that a home you prefer not to get bears from. I obviously would take great care to keep fabrics clean as I do with my own projects, however I realize some kiddos have allergies to pets! I do not want to add havack to any situation! I just love these Bears and what a wonderful way to give back! Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Thank you so much for highlighting this wonderful cause Rob. My adult daughter and I have been discussing charities and how we would like to help a rare child’s charity since most of the big well know charities have lots of donors. Rare Bears is perfect is just what I have been looking for. Being on a limited income this program is perfect for me because the Bears take small pieces of fabric and since they aren’t stuffed the shipping cost is affordable. I’ve ordered my pattern and hope it arrives quickly.

I am in UK and I had to buy on line from USA. It's a shame we do not do it here or have the pattern digital for download paid as normal, because more people would do it here but the postage alone was double the cost of the pattern itself. It is such a wonderful thing to do and my granddaughter has had things sent her and it's makes do much difference, she been in hospital a year now fighting cancer for the second time in her short life she 6yrs old. So I am really happy to make these bears and pay the postage but just thought more would join outside the USA if the pattern was paid for and then downloaded to print out.

Rob, when you say "clean" material, are you suggesting we wash the fabric before we construct? Or is just new fabric ok? I also like your idea of a fat quarter bundle. How many are needed in the bundle to make the bear?

I am having problems trying to locate the pattern for the Memory Bear. I have looked in the local sewing stores. But they do not have one. Where can I purchase a pattern by mail. I have been looking for the passed two month. No luck.

I just got this pattern because of your video. I want to make more than one so I was thinking I needed to do a template to preserve the pattern. Do you have any suggestions? I have never seen with a pattern. Thanks!

Rob what brand and weight polyester thread do you like to use? I’m trying to build a thread stash and appreciate any recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Are bear safety eyes and noses ok to put on or do they just prefer floss or nothing at all

Hi Tasha! RARE Science prefers no eyes or nose due to choking hazards that they pose. Hope you enjoy making this project! :)

Great tut Rob! Can I ask what king of foot is on your babylock? I see a lot of tut people using that foot and I'd like to get one for my machine. Thanks for all your hard work.

I've made these for my grandchildren, but didn't know about this project. I have now signed up for the program😊. Can you use 100% cotton fabric for them? I have lots of it. Thanks Rob for the video! You are a great guy❤.
