Good knowledge of press tool.I hope to ask about the equation of clearance C=0.0032*tao^0.5 is multiplied by Thickness or no.

      Exam Point of view:-
The clearance formula with shear stress (tao) is a material strength dependent formula, so no need to multiply with thickness as far as exams are concerned. (as you would be provided only one of these two not both if you are to find clearance) (only if comparative clearance is to be checked both tao & thickness would be provided in question)
      Industrial Practical Approach: -
While, practically in mfg. industries the material of the sheet is known and we don't waste time to calculate by shear force as shear stress value is unknown and cannot perform testing of the material so there we use the percentage rule of thickness for that particular as shown in video for C.I, M.S. etc. the percentage to be taken may depend on its constituent concentration. The dimensions obtained by percentage rule are a bit bigger than the one by shear stress formula to always be on a safer side.
All industries have a chart/table of clearance values & % of thickness prepared based on past experiences for the materials they generally work with.
      Hope it clears your concept.👍

@@OriginseShala Yes sir, clear how much about the percentage of thickness as practical.

Actually the % of thickness as I mentioned is not some calculative method but one based on experience from trial & error. It depends on the material to be press-worked and the thickness itself. But In most cases it can range from 0.15% to a 20% maximum. Based on my observations from different workshops. But it can vary.
