  • What a beautiful, hidden cave that has an underground beach! Definitely one of the best hidden gems in Oahu. Mermaid caves what a gem!

This is a very dangerous cave. Plz tread lightly. I was recently on the rocks watching people jump in, and a HUGE wave came by and took us all out. Cut open my left leg. It’s no joke

Ok guys...gotta be honest with you. The westside of Oahu is not a tourists destination. I know, I know...you saw some chick on Insta posing like a mermaid in some random cave and decided to look up the location. But be warned: Don't be surprised if people break into your car and steal your shit or if you find yourself being hassled by locals. Just know as well that you will be in the midst of a neighborhood. Be considerate of them. Also, high surf makes going to these caves pretty dangerous. Don't underestimate it.

I lived on Oahu. I learned to live alongside the locals, and found most of them terrific. For the great many of them, if you give them respect, you get it back. Of course, since I wasn't a tourist, that helped. I'm not that wild about tourists myself.

@@TheBatugan77Ya da locals aren't necessarily bad. We just got problems like everyone else. But when you look too much from the lens of tourism, you don't tend to seek the knowledge of people who have been brought up there. After all, it is there home. So I put this comment out there.
From a Native Hawaiian son. Born and raised. Aloha to all. Just be careful.

I can confirm this. I went here in 2018 and had my bag stolen. There was a large homeless population that lives at a park nearby. Not sure if they’re still there but we talked to a local who was helping us and she explained the locals do not welcome tourists on this side of the island and theft was a reoccurring issue.

For haole tourists reading this: PLEASE remember, this is someone else's homeland. Be careful and respectful. I know these caves have been posted all over YT, but they are not "touristy spot" so BE CAREFUL. Local kids know these caves. Don't take risks and NEVER LEAVE TRASH BEHIND. Not even a lei. The string on lei is dangerous to sea life. If you have any trash, bring it back with you.

I hate when people post this kind of stuff, somethings should not be shared like this. These caves can be extremely dangerous, if you were a true local you would know this. Did you add that there are families that live right at this beach? Do you think they like seeing strangers Risking their lives for a photo shot? Did you mention the amount of people that have drowned in this spot? Anyone not from here, let me warn you that the west side oceans are dangerous, this is not a swimming pool. I get tired of helping dumb tourists getting out of this cave because they wanted a “cute” pic for their Instagram. They put their life at risk and ours.

@@LaineyhulaAdventures It used to be a local spot but now I hear it's packed with tourists looking for "Mermaid Caves." I see you sharing aloha, and I think your intention is beautiful, but there's consequences. I hope that area doesn't become gentrified, causing more displacement of kanaka and kama'aina. That usually happens when tourists come around and start spending money in the area. I'm glad that you went and had a good time, and took beautiful pics, but why tell the whole world how to get there? Why not just your friends and family? It's not about being selfish, it's about being smart and making sure Hawaiian lands stay in Hawaiian hands. All it takes is one rich haole to see this and decide it should belong to him. I pray that people who visit Hawaii realize that it's not just a tourist destination for them, it's someone's home. Anyway, not trying to make you feel bad, just giving you something to think about.
