    The most impressive thing about recordings from the past is the number of special Science fans that leave indelible education for future generations with comments pointing out that things from before have changed into different things now or sometimes disappeared and been replaced by similar things that work how things work now rather than how things worked then, that things were often quite different before, and, that people from before have probably got older if they are still here now and will therefore not be the same age as they were then.
    We are very lucky that we live in a age where, for the first time, a generation has emerged that is receiving ultimate unifying knowledge of everything and, with this finalised learning, is generously spreading an understanding of all the stuff that has been newly noticed.

      Wrong and wrong again. The cell phone was invented in 1983 but even before that the car phone had been around for around 40 years at that point. In fact, my mom got her first cell phone around this time but we were so used to calling it a car phone, that's what we would call it. Also, SUV's were almost 20 yeas old at this point and sales were steadily increasing in 1988.

    • @bh2155

      There were SUVs around but no where near as many as it is now!😒

    • @kenyattaclay7666
      @kenyattaclay7666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bh2155 actually that's not really correct either. While it's true sedans led in sales, the Bronco, Blazer, Wrangler, Rodeo, Trooper, Sidekick and a few others were extremely popular and sold extremely well. I can tell you as someone who turned 16 in 1988 these are the autos we wanted. In fact they were doing so well by 1990 automakers started designing more and more SUV's that would soon hit the road just a few years after the 1988 auto show such as the Explorer, Escape and Rav4.
      Also, when I said SUV I was more referring to what is sometimes called CUV however the SUV/CUV dominated the auto market for its first 50 years or so. Heck, the Chevy Suburban is around 100 years old. It wasn't until the mid 50's that what became what we know as a modern sedan started to take hold of the market.
      Lastly, he said no SUVs.

      Um, counterpoint, no it wasn't. Starting in the mid 70's automakers began to realize it was MUCH cheaper to build shared platforms and parts. There were SEVERAL different models of GM vehicles for example that looked alike only changing the name and/or GM company. The 80's was also when American automakers were putting out pure junk that would breakdown ever time you turned around. It's one of the reasons why my mom after so many years of buying American cars bought a Volvo because she wanted something more reliable.

      @@kenyattaclay7666 You are hot on that guy's tail, aren't ya. LOL Holy cats. I think he meant unique designs, as in, not counting parts bin sharing. There is a very homogenized quality to car styling these days with rare exception. Even interiors, Mazda first ripped off the BMW dash, and then because Mazda got such praise for their interiors many other manufacturers started to duplicate the same basic design. Same for the big mouth grilles. Today many of the steering wheels are almost identical. They're so hyper focused on the cash aspect that they'll rip off any idea if they have reason to believe i't desired. You can no longer tell a BMW from anything else from the backside, the grille may give it away in the front, BMWs look like HYundais and Hyundai adopted this radical styling now (which is great from the back, heinous from the front). Cadillac has maintained originality, Honda too, though i've not liked the specific designs.

    • @kenyattaclay7666
      @kenyattaclay7666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kgbeezr75 first, read everything I wrote because even “back in the day” most autos were so called homogenized and looked a lot alike. Look at a Pacer, Pinto and a Gremlin all had shared designs. Third, if you can’t tell the difference between a BMW and a Mazda from a mile away then you are either blind or stupid, which is it?

    • @kgbeezr75
      @kgbeezr75 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenyattaclay7666 Aw, don't be like that, c'mon, let's be friends! :) The Pacer and Gremlin shared similar designs, but the pacer had the radical styling at the rear that the Gremlin didn't have, from behind you'd never mistake one for the other, even from the side. The pinto was a completely different design, really nothing at all in common with the other two aside from being a 2 door hatchback. As for your other question, well, see, I do have some blurry vision, but the problem there is that I can't see close up, far away i'm good. Like do you know how it is when you're trying to read something small, but you bring it up close to your face only to realize you can't see there, but you CAN see far away, but then far away the text is too tiiinny, itty bitty? It's a conundrum, been thinking about talking to my doctor about it, but she's actually a veterinarian. She charges less and i'm a bargain hunter. That's why I go to her. I'm thinking though that I might try to see a plumber instead next time because he at least has the right equipment for optometry...the plunger and stuff...I mean, for when you need an eyeballectomy, you know? Have you ever had one of those? They're crazy. Welp, as much as i'd love to take up some more of your time, i'm going to sign off and make an appointment with my vet, K, bye!

      Giugiaro desgined the Mk1 Scirocco, the Passat 1/Dasher, and the Mk1 Polo as well, and I give him credit for the Mk1 Jetta because the trunk fits in perfectly with his folded origami style. He also designed the Isuzu Piazza / Impulse as well.

Now sadly we do not always time to take off work to do those fun things. But will take the day off to go. The picture I have of the red mustang you see

    My dad and I stared our yearly tradition of going to the CAS I think it cost 6 dollar and we parked on a side street near the hospital. We went to Ricobenes for 2 breaded steak sandwiches and a pitcher of beer after about a 3 hour walk around and way to may brochures .....Our last trip was about 10 years ago...with 1/2 off tickets it was still 8 dollars per person to get in and Ricobenes was around 40 dollars... and the worst was all the schools that allowed school trips to the show....He did buy two cars ( via salesmen from the show) 1988 GMC Safari van Cho-Cho custom edition and his 2003 Chevy Impala...he still wants that one back.....

    Odd how they could get the rounded lines of the 90's and 00's but couldn't figure out larger wheels. The show cars all have very simple and non-showy 14-16'' wheels. Did no one think of bigger wheels back then making show cars more showy? Not even any spoked wheel designs.

      1988 Dodge Intrepid concept car-
      Before the arrival of the 1993 Dodge Intrepid four-door sedan, a wedge-shaped two-door concept called 'Intrepid' was displayed at the 1988 Chicago show. Dodge considered the design an aerodynamic leap into the future. Topped by a full flush all-glass canopy, the prototype used sheet metal panels and was finished in a deep candy apple red. The mid-mounted 2.2-liter four-cylinder was rated at 225 horsepower and 225 feet pounds of torque. Called the Turbo III, the engine was teamed with a five-speed manual gearbox. Built off a Dodge Daytona chassis, Intrepid had a wheelbase of 95.4-inches, stood 45.6 inches tall, and rode on 16-inch front and 17-inch rear cast aluminum wheels. Except for the roof shape, the Intrepid concept from 1988 was nearly line-for-line preview of the 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T.
