The scenario you guys didn't address with Anthony Davis is if he comes out and says I will not sign an extension with any team except The Lakers that significantly reduces his trade value to Boston, but also to the The Lakers. Right now he hasn't said that so his trade value is the highest it will be.

The concern of Boston is that Davis will not re-sign at the end of the season, which would mean that they just wasted their young talents for a SINGLE run in the playoffs.

@@zglrd8938 it's complicated but Cousins and AD played together on the Pelicans and by all reports became good friends. At the all star game Davis even wore Cousins jersey to show him love since he was injured and deserved to be an all star. The two were really hitting on all cylinders when injury messed up their seasons on both sides. People expected Cousins and Davis to play together for awhile as a sort of twin towers powerhouse but after a single season Cousins split to win a ring with the Golden State leaving Davis high and dry.
That's the quick version but it gets even more complicated and in fairness to Cousins I'll explain it better: Cousins was injured and wanted to Rejoin the Pelicans but management offered him diddily squat and Cousins said "but I'm one of the best centers in the league can't you pay me what I'm worth?"
Pelicans said, "a lot of careers got derailed by the injury you suffered and before we pay you the big bucks we gotta make sure you are still as good as you used to be."
Cousins wasn't happy and for good reason so he shopped other teams expecting a better contract but no other team was willing to offer him more so with his head low he went back to the pelicans and said he'd sign their low-ball deal. But here's where the Pelicans go from Villain to Supervillain they said, "you shopped your contract and couldn't find anyone to match what we offered so that deal is off the table and instead we are going to pay you even less."
Cousins said "bye bish." And signed a measly 5 million deal with the warriors to get a ring but also be on a team where he can showcase how his injury has healed and how good he still is without feeling pressured to get back on the court before he's ready and carry the team to victory (there are 4 other all stars who can do that.) But everyone fully expects Cousins to bail on Golden State after this season and sign a max contract somewhere.
So yeah - complicated. Basically Pelicans management screwed over Cousins, then screwed over Davis by losing Cousins with a low-ball offer and ultimately screwed themselves by showing Davis they aren't serious about winning. Still would be funny if that trade happened though.
Boston as a trade candidate for AD is a joke. They have 2 extra picks that convey this year (and they will be used by the time they can trade for AD) and then next year they just have their own, Rozier will be leaving in free agency and who knows about Kyrie. But hey, let’s say Kyrie stays, then Boston would have to give up one of Tatum or Brown (possibly both) not to mention they likely need to move one of their big three to match salary because otherwise they would need to attach at least another 2-3 starters or glue guys because, let’s say Marcus Smart and Tatum, equate to 18 million and they need 7 million more minimum
The Thunder should go after Jrue, they would actually have a chance to beat the Warriors if they don't give up PG, Russ, or Adams

Why not trade for someone like Mirotic that could stretch the floor and apply better bench in okc with noel and schroeder. He can shoot some 3's as well. Randle is apparently good too. It's up to Presti now 😂

This situation with the Lakers and AD reminds me so, so, so much of when Carmelo wanted to come to the Knicks. If the Lakers trade away the combination of Lonzo, Ingram, and Kuzma, they're making a terrible mistake.

@@chenney2190 I don't think a team of Lebron, AD, and a band of misfit veterans and G-League players are going to do anything. Sacrificing too much depth for one guy, that's the big parallel to what happened with Melo.
1missing not a lakers fan but you get him now, then fill out the rest of roster in offseason, plus have room to land another big name. Good vets will sign for cheap to chase a ring if you have Lebron, AD and another big name player. Nola would be stupid to trade him before the deadline.
I'm a Melo fan, but this isn't the same thing. AD right now is a much better player and much more valuable than Carmelo was when that trade happened.

One thing. Waiting until the summer doesn’t necessarily mean that Pelicans can get more in return, cause if AD says I’m going to the Lakers and Lakers only, than the other teams wouldn’t give you much, and Lakers would try to get him without giving up Kuzma. Then you would get stuck between that deal or waiting and letting him go for nothing. So please take 4 players plus two first round picks or 5 players and one first round pick and let this get over with.
Actually - I'd like the Sixers to trade Ben Simmons for AD. Problem is they got no good wing on a contract to throw in with him and that's what the Pelicans are likely seeking as a crucial piece in the trade. Philly got the picks to make it work but it's likely not enough. Butler, AD, Embiid, a point guard that can shoot and doesn't need the ball too much á la Collison or Brogdon and another wing player as a backup in free agency. Butler could slide to the 3, Redick or Shamet at the 2.
For the Pelicans who got shooters Simmons makes sense, especially due to his age and next to Jrue Holiday. Sixers don't really have another good vet to throw in (won't part with Butler) so maybe Simmons and 2 good draft picks. Even then it's complicated as Simmons strikes me as a guy for the big markets, salaries don't work (Fultz as a semi-filler and one lesser draft pick?) and Pelicans still lack their player at the 3.

I don't think Pelis are interested in either Lonzo(even he didn't get injured) nor Ingram. But Peli would still let the world know that they are negotiating with the Lakers, so that Boston has to offer the max they could. From Lakers side, they should now run all plays thru Ingram, make him look like super star as much as possible, so that you increase Ingram trade values, just like the way Boston have done on IT.
Yeah. Boston can offer more to the Pelicans. But if AD tell them that he wants to play with Bron do you think Celtics would still trade for him? Do you think Celtics would give everything just for one year knowing AD is gonna be a free agent next year? I don't think so. They aren't also sure if Kyrie would re-sign.

As a kings fan I’m upset that the package for Demarcus didn’t include a star player. Davis is an all star/ superstar level player. The pelicans should get some solid pieces in return not young players and picks, established all star, young player and picks.

A bonus no one seems to be talking about is that maybe Pels won't want to trade him to a team in the west, that being the case with the Leonard deal. You're overlooking the fact that by the summer Bulls, Knicks or some other lucky team could have the number 1 pick that they could add in a deal that includes some of their young guys which I think would be more valuable than Tatum, 2 lottery picks and some late first rounders. People are overrating the Celtics just a little in this case

Dear Nuggets your next game is at New Orleans, if I were in the position of your GM I won't return from there with some kind of a trade agreement.
This is your once in a lifetime chance to won a championship or two, very similar when KD joined GSW, maybe it's one year too early but it's now or never.
So give Pelicans a good offer: 2 starters Milsap and Burton and 2 draft picks for AD will be perfect.
Those 2 will perfectly fit in their start lineup and 2 picks will be very important for their rebuild.
There is no reason for them to reject that offer, but if they become a little bit greedy offer them one more rotational player.
You have enough talented young players to fill the roster so don't be selfish, this is it, timing is great, 2 more playoffs on AD's contract until it expires.

No way the Pelicans would accept Barton, Millsap, and picks for AD. Any deal would almost certainly start with Murray and 2 quality young guys (Beasley, Morris, Juancho, MPJ), as well as a first. They definitely have the assets to get a deal done but I think it would be better to keep all the young guys together to continue to grow and develop. No need to rush it.

No deal if Pelicans doesn't accept that offer which includes Millsap. In that case Nuggets will wait for AD to become free agent in 2020 but that could be too late for him to get the ring.

Celtics got nobody but Celtics who’s the good young player, jaylen is inconsistent and not better than kuz or Ingram, rozier is only better at scoring compared to lonzo... and smart is a better defender than hart that’s really it. Kuz is better than Tatum, Ingram better than brown, Lonzo better than rozier if u look at it (he does everything better besides score efficiently) and hart is a better shooter and driver than smart, he also is a solid defender
