I remember myself years ago watching that scene in the movie and how the actor used his fingers they way you do to play that solo. Of course I laughed at it because "it is impossible to play THAT solo like that, you NEED a pick". And now... I'm speechless.
th-cam.com/video/mlgdmJVetQE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=q86KMx3phjYQAYgl
It's possible without a pick, but definitely not without a 24th fret 😂
See Jeff Beck. See classical guitarists.
check out roland dyens - felicidade if you want to see some fancy fingerwork!
I love how well he does past works. I hope we are not disappointed by his own. He surely has some elevated talent.
This is without doubt the most authentic sounding rendition of this piece ever played (outside of the actual movie recording) ... and Matteo uses no studio trickery either, it's all recorded live in one take.
Absolutely amazing!
Got goosebumps from hearing how close it sounds to that scene. Hopefully someone has sent this to Ralph Macchio, Steve Vai, and Ry Cooder, specifically for that reason.
It's not just that Matteo can play faster, more fluidly, and with greater ease and tonal range than virtually anyone else, but that unlike the vast majority of superfast players, he can actually improvise on complex changes at that speed. His ability is not merely mechanical; there is a great musical mind behind his chops.
that added couple of bits - that lovely scramble on the run down is epic & the tapped harmonics were just a joy to replay over & over
He's the most refreshing guitarist to emerge with an incredible musical forte for ages. An outstanding and gifted musician.
Here's what I find interesting being an 80's rock bassist. I can't tell you how many times I played with a guitar player, and he's scrambling saying does anyone have a pick, I need a pick (LOL)
He's got good genes man, from his father and probably other people in his family, that's the most important thing, he's an aristocrat of music, it takes several generations to form one of these rare talents.
Steve’s masterpiece done beautifully without a pick… Amazing!!! 👍
i mean it would be harder having to only use a pick
Mi sembrava di conoscere quei fraseggi.😊 Grande Matteo.
It's a piece by paganini originally
Are you a sister of mateus or something ?
@@pedougogics8785he wrote the whole thing though I believe
Ecxelente Matteo! Saludos desde Argentina.
Unbelievable. The best performance of this since the movie.
I was thinking the same thing!
So basically, only Ralph Macchio can do better.
@@renatonyche didnt play it
@@antonflystrup932it’s called a joke buddy
@@lt_johnmcclane how do you know? There really isnt anything pointing out that it was a joke in his comment
Playing and performing guitar for 61 years I can say that now there are hundreds and eventually tens of thousands of guitarists that will be emulating your style, Just like we emulated the Ventures, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix etc.. You are truly inspiring, myself included.
Ya right 😆 fake hippy
I can see Steve Vai smiling and clapping... excellent.
Matteo, how can you teach anybody anything? You are completely another level from the rest of us mortal guitar players.
I’ve been waiting for years to see Matteo play this piece, always wondering how he would go about it. This surely did not disappoint. Instantly my favorite performance of this.
I’ve been trying to nail this piece for probably 15 years and still can’t do it, but somehow watching Matteo play it flawlessly just inspires me to try harder. Well done, and thanks so much for the demonstration! Truly a one-in-a-million player. 👍🏼👍🏼
You got it, brother. I learned it when i was 15, sloppily of course. Fast forward 21 yrs later and i just tonight sat down w a metronome and started at 80bpm. Got it down. Jumped to 130bpm. Got it down and i can play it full speed but not as confidently as matteo. Keep trying. Keep going. We all have faith in you. Good luck
Man it seems like just yesterday that I taught Matteo this piece,he's really coming along nicely.!🤣🤣
The fastest, most fluid, most articulate version I have ever heard! Dare I say, even more so than Vai's playing of it! OMG! Mere child's play in this magicians 10 fingers!
Yep, here he comes again making me wonder how his abilities are even possible... What a legend.
I honestly believe that you’re the future of guitar Matteo, and I think that you’re going to inspire a generation of players to reach new levels, and create new techniques/ideas never seen before with your unique, masterful style of playing!!
He is giving me Guthrie Govan vibes.
He is:)
Mark Knopfler was already doing it 40 years ago 😂
@@alexandercrowley. I’m a lifelong Mark Knopfler fan my bro, and you’re right, he absolutely inspired a generation of players 40 years ago. Just as Matteo is going to do now if there’s any justice in this world!!
Beyond using their fingers instead of a plectrum, do you honestly hear a similarity in their style of play? This dude is an absolute prodigy and a virtuoso and everybody watching this video knows it! (Even you my friend, surely 👊😎)
@@PeteLockhartTV But these techniques are also used in fingerstyle for example... He is certainly good on a technical level, but it ends there. Like many virtuosos, they dedicate themselves body and soul to the technique, leaving aside the role more important than music, namely emotion and expressiveness This sets you apart from the crowd and not virtuosity.
Finally some one played the original crossroad version 🎉
I like when he's raising his eyebrows, it's like he's surprised by the licks he's actually playing.
Impresionante
Just when you thought everything has already be done on the guitar along comes this young guy with a creative unique approach and sound. Looking forward to his continued contribution to the guitar in the years to come.
BRAVO...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saucy stuff. Congrats on the Vai camp spot! Have a blast. Loving the new record by the way, that's one serious guitar album.
Like having four picks in perfect physical harmony allowing unmatched style and virtuosity !! but he has screaming vibrato up in the high fret board, attitude for days, timing phrasing, just a stunning guitar player ! I hope some huge pop act on a world tour hires him to elevate his status to the main stream !
I mean… Damn. I grew up watching Crossroads and I can’t even try to estimate how many times I’ve watch that scene. But what I do know is this… I’ve watched many talented guitar players do a pretty good job with this piece, but none have come close to duplicating it the way you have… I am still stunned at your precision and I know it didn’t come easy, you worked your ass off for that and I’m sorry that my few kind words are all that I have to offer, but damn…
I *need* to see Matteo Mancuso and Steve Vai do a guitar duel. I need it.
That took me back to being a 14yo when I first watch the movie when it came out and being such a fanboy of Steve Vai in that movie. That was epic - thank you!
Man I am presently practicing in my studio and now i have to practice much much longer. Just amazing
This was cleaner than demineralized water, holy truck 😳😳💯💯
El Stepario on Drums, Charles Berthound on Bass, and this guy on Guitar ..... who could be a singer to match the prolific-ness of these dudes???. Just sick!!!!!!
He's not even trying hard ... respect!
Hearing this, I almost set my guitars on fire. But then ... I counted to ten and reflected. Neither EC, nor Joe B, nor David G, not even Mark K could keep up with your incredible skills and accuracy. Yngwie, yes and Steve V probably too, but not as neat and clean. Once again I humbly salute you, Matteo.
Crossroads! Nostalgia. Super master, bravo!🎸😊
Wow wow best guitar solos❤❤❤
E senza plettro!😱
Flawless. You cannot get better than this.
There is no point asking if this fine man can play this style or that... He can.. Just please stay humble Matteo.. it makes the music so much more beautiful and the gift worthy of sharing.
The toneee so similar, awesome broooooo 👏👏
Grande. Grazie per il filmato🙏🎸
He's incredible.
Per come suoni e per quanto sei educato ti dovrebbero ricoprire d'oro. Matteo Mancuso si studierà come i testi sacri
I’ve tried to play this for years & though I was doing a pretty good job, until I saw this! Matteo you are a phenomenal musician, and from what I have seen a phenomenal person as well. Bravo!
Holy crap. The most talented guitar player on the music scene today.
I used to shred in the 90s, Jazz, Fusion, Prog Rock.... 🙂 Thank god I have my OWN sound now...... 😀😀😀✌
Man is an absolute unit, mind blown as always. Not an easy piece as anyone guitarist who loved the movie knew already
With his novel approach, and masterful technique; I'm beginning to wonder if Matteo could perform Nuno's "Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee" without a delay pedal.
Nuno said that he did not use a delay pedal for that solo (Rick Beato interview).
So weird hearing it so on point. Ten year’s practicing and listening to it over and over and it’s still not like this 😂
Perfeito
Greatest guitar Legend, ❤
Oh god 😃I am really sooo happy for your reply to my comment , exactly absolutely you are the greatest musician and you have the greatest Heart ever ❤️god bless ❤️ thank you Mr Matteo 💖 I love music absolutely 😀
Buy this dude’s music, you won’t regret it. Not just a top tier guitar player, but a magnificent songwriter. I have yet to hear a Joe Satriani song that moved me more than some of Matteo’s songs on his album “The Journey”. Take the title track, called “The Journey”. He doesn’t even show off his guitar chops in that song, just lets the music talk. And it’s the album’s TITLE TRACK! Matteo Mancuso’s title track. He’s not just Instagram flashy shreds. He’s also, music. He named his album after the least flashy song you could picture him playing. But it’s MUSIC. And that’s the point, and I think he proves that in his music. That song takes me to a world I don’t want to leave. Don’t let social media and other distractions distract you from getting his music. This guy is the real deal
Nobody under 40 is buying music
Extraordinary, Brilliant, Phenomenal................................. Grand Master of his Instrument period. 🤩
Grande Matteo!!!!!!!….orgoglio siciliano!!!!🤟🤟🤟🤟
Damn dude that was absolutely flawless. You’re definitely something special, always amazed by your playing
I have played both classical guitar, and electric guitar for 40? years. I can play Paganini's caprice #5 on classical guitar, with proper classical technique. And I have impressed an audience, or two, playing Eugene's trick bag, (a variation of Caprice #5 by Steve Vai,) very well with a pick. Aside from that piece. I have always tried to apply the classical (rest-stroke, free-stroke) technique to the electric guitar. The problem has always been the unpredictable flexibility of the electric guitar strings, and the snagging of my, well sculpted nails, across the thin flimsy strings. It was like running through two feet of mud. I never imagined the day I would ever see a guitarist close that gap between Classical, and electric guitar technique. But that day has come. I would love to know how he practiced that transition, other than saying he practiced 29 hours a day. Or he just picked up the guitar one day and did it? Matteo finally broke through that wall. And I will keep on practicing.
Listen Rick Beato interview he explain the string he use
@sylviedhancarville4486 He's (it's?) an ALIEN FROM ANOTHER GALAXY! Remember the Coneheads?? This guy is no more from Italy than the Coneheads were from France!!
WOW ! 🏴
He doesn’t need the pick of destiny, because he is one.
Beautiful resolution at the end!... and your use of the arpeggios at the end instead of an octave back is such a clever move for a thicker tone on the lower strings and makes for better economy of movement.
That's the part that gets me.
Thanks I will try the ending your way!
incredibile suonare la chitarra 🎸🎶
THE MOVIE CROSS ROADS NEEDS TO BE REMADE WITH THIS KID AND VAI! IT HAS TO HAPPEN!
Incredible player a master and virtuoso. Even Steve Vai said Mancuso stunned him.
I wish nothing but the best for you young man. You are an inspiration to so many guitar players including myself.
Magnificent!!👏👏👏🌹❤️🙏
excellent, the force is strong in this one....
WHat the Hell ^^ ....stunning awesome. Greetings from Germany.
Never EVER gets old, and you sir played it perfectly. Loved it!
Impressive unique technique...but only the tool to make really music.
So clean,so vigorous.
You make it look so easy.
This Steve Vai masterpiece has a new life on your hands.
I hope you'll go higher with your enormous talent.
Congrats...
Please don't become another boring Steve Vai ....melody must be put ALWAYS before useless tecnique
Sorry, you didn't understand what I said.
Matteo has played this piece with his technique and with feeling.
Vai may be boring sometimes but has created some beautiful themes as "For the love of Gold".
Myself I love guitar players with feeling , as Mark Knopfler, whom I play lot of songs.
Matteo plays jazz -fusion with his unique technique , with dexterity and feeling.
I think he'll never be another Vai.
He has his own style.
Listen to his work before telling things like that.
He has made this because he'll be at an event with other great guitar players( Vai included).
Don't tell silly things.
Orgoglio italiano, sei tu Matteo il migliore....🎸💣
Finally Steve has his own little Italian virtuoso, like Zappa used to say.
grandissimo matte, buona fortuna per tutto e continua a migliorare!! esecuzione magnifica
Imagine if Ralph Macchio actually played like that in the movie Crossroads back in the day! Steve Vai would have been like... WTF?
You are absolutely incredible. Wow 🤘🏻
That's one of my favorite movies! It made me start playing guitar. 🎸
It got me started too. Mississippi Adventure, alias Crossroads😊...i still remember the scenes...Matteo is impressive🔝
That was flawless!!❤
Sweet. As Vai said a few years ago...and I'm paraphrasing...,"There are players today that make me and Edward look slow, old and sloppy..." :)
That is kickass........ 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
W😯W!!! Most Excellent!!!
ANIMAL!!👏🏻
His technique reminds me of a violinist rather than most guitarists. I think it’s the effortless legato. Always outstanding
yes, because violinists use their fingers of their right hand as well.. 🤪
outstanding yes but there is NO legato...literally every note is picked.. therefore DISconnected from other notes.
F*cking wow... Unbelievably impressive. TY! 🤯
Embellishing vai w/out a second thought, bravo amigo !!
Matteo, le tue esecuzioni sono ipnotiche!!
Well.. that was about as good a cover as you'll ever see. How many guys have tried this song and played it that dang good? There's been a few. Now how many did it without a pick? Nobody. Extremely impressive young fella, keep blowing our minds my friend🤘
Be careful with what you say because there's Max Ostro out there and Bernth, and if you know Bernth he's the type to play it over the neck, blindfolded while hanging upside down in a tank full of water. Personally, I never cared for that piece. I'm more of an Eruption type of guy! BRING BACK EDDIE! BRING BACK EDDIE! BRING BACK EDDIE! AND RANDY TOO!!! BRING BACK RANDY! BRING BACK RANDY! BRING BACK RANDY! Awe, I just miss them!
@@sirzap7542 yeah, the talent floating around our there now is nuts. But this guy is in very rare company when it comes to fingerstyle playing. Mike Dawe is a really cool pick free guy, not a speed demon like Matteo, but very uniquely talented in his own right.
@@krob5375 He is in very rare company indeed! I know of a fist full of people on his level. I know of like 2 or 3 people that are beyond him, but that's about it.
Haven't seen a right hand like that in a very long time, bravo
You're a champion, man. I bow, sir, I bow.
This has haunted me since 1986. It will haunt me for the rest of my life, never being able to pull it off.
Something tells me Matteo learned this over the weekend.
no, he did it in the morning, he recorded in the afternoon
@@joemanganese 'scuse me while I go cut my head off.
Noooo, he never heard it before and still played it.
Noooooooo... He played it before Steve did!
Tricky bag! Well performed Matteo👏🎸🔥
Love the picture of Jimi on the wall.
wow
Leggenda ❤
Amazing news. You’re awesome. Everything you do is a masterpiece ❤
This is unreal, there are guitarist like Steve Morse who is also an accomplished classical guitar player and the great John Williams who experimented with electric guitar but no one ever made this kind of quantum leap and integrated classical techniques on electric like this.
BRAVO! I always thought it was a computer playing that solo from Crossroads!
"That was very good Matteo, very good up to a point. Most people approach Macchio with respect, evidently that's an attitude you're not familiar with."
He is good but no Macchio
@@godbyoneRalph Macchio is “the best around”. - Joe “Bean” Esposito
Grazie di esserci, you ROCK! Jiji (Roma)
One of my favorite movies of all time. Why?? Cause of this and Steve vai.. and now your amazing chops to Boot 👍👍 your going to excell beyond what you can imagine my friend 👍😁
Grazie, Matteo. Continue bringing beautyful ART to this ugly world. 💪
