    After a year of messing around with this gorgeous and impressive airbrush, I usually reassemble after a deep clean by fitting the trigger, then fitting the nozzle and air head to the needle and putting the needle in backwards and tightening the head down, then the needle protector.. IMO, feeding the 0.15mm needle in forwards and finessing it to go into the nozzle forwards is just asking for trouble,

    Shaun, may I suggest thinner first, then paint? Even if you mix well, paint first makes it easier to clog.

    Bought this brush this week after careful consideration. Its my first brush, and am really impressed with the quality (can't knock the Germans for that, it's what they're known for). Thanks for the detailed breakdown, it's the first I've seen that actually explains to depress the trigger to remove the needle (told you, total n00b to airbrushing).
    Thanks bud 👍

    I would have to agree, that it is hard pressed to find a negative to this airbrush.
    While I don't have the CR, I have the regular Infinity (the CR wasn't out on the market yet when I got my normal Infinity), and it has worked flawlessly. I like it so much, that Harder & Steenbeck is the only brand of airbrush I sell in my hobby shop.
    If I had to come up with a negative, that would be that the 0.15mm needle is so fine, that it is easy to bend the tip. That being said, that also makes it easy to to a minor repair to the needle with a fine sanding stick to straighten it out (unless you go too far when it was initially bent). My suggestion to anyone buying the Infinity or Infinity CR, buy an extra 0.15mm needle.
    I ran everything from Badgers, Aztek, Iwata, and Iwata knock offs, and all I use now is a regular Infinity, and an Evolution AL Plus (basically just the Evolution with an aluminum body, rather than the traditional brass), only other difference is it comes with the same 2 prong nozzle cap that the Infinity comes with. Makes a great 1, 2 punch when painting.

    I'm in the automotive painting i've use this on interior designs. Woah! What amazing airbrush. Awesome for bleeding and also shading i do a lot of freehand and stencil works on the interior of the car. When i got this airbrush about 1 month ago im amazed this Video Apprised me to get one of these amazing pieces of art. I used to use a IWata Micron But got tired of it real quick. Details good but not really my style i gave it to my son for his little work on his models. Now i have this it's amazing. Love the Features u can add on to this airbrush. Like the air regulator that u can buy as a upgrade it's one of the best i have ever used so precises. So i would recommend it to a newbie but then wouldn't it because all these feature can really bog someone new to airbrushing. But it is one durable Machine. Also Harder and steenbeck has amazing service. they sent me a defective airbrush. A O-Ring was defective so they sent me a New O-Ring but also for the wait they sent me a Evolution (Aluminum version) Not stating they will do this to anyone but it was really amazing seeing that they put that much care into there customers. Harder and Steenbeck 110% Amazing airbrush. It's A buyer if u got the money :)

    I love this brush. I never thought something would drive me away from my tried and trusted Badger single-action siphon-feed brush. But the fine and repeatable details I can get with this (I agree, "the button" is a brilliant feature) mean I leave the Badger in the box unless I'm doing a big model with a lot of paint throw-down, say for primer, where I'm looking for an even coat rather than fine or subtle detail. So I'd never throw my 35-year old Badger out, but it's no longer my go-to brush.

    I've this one (except its the X model, it permit me to prepare the different paint (I can keep them for month) in a lot of paint can to avoid wasting time, plus this avoid the airbrush to block with pigment (the gravity favor it, and mostly with 0,15 needle)and it permit to to clean the nozzle keeping the paint
    . I really love this airbrush. The good point is that spare part are cheap (in europe) compare to iwata models.

    Nice demo, I learned a trick or two that hadn't occured to me - every day is a school day👍😉✌️😊
    I've two H&S airbrushes including this one, I can't find fault with them, maybe the boxes could be a bit nicer (inserts are a bit 1970s), the trigger feel/take up might not be quite as good as a high end Iwata (that's me REALLY nitpicking 😳😇😉 as the triggers on H&S airbrushes are excellent - superb in fact!), but they're a LOT easier to strip down and live with than an Iwata, and I'm still amazed by the results (I learn something new every time that I use it).
    I've a couple of Sparmax for base coats and primers, also a Paasche H (which is used for that duty as I've gone off of 90% of rattle cans as they can clog, splatter etc).
    To be fair if I was only allowed two ABs? I'd have the Infinity and the Paasche H (if one can get a good one - their quality control is marginal - then Paasche last for years and they're very robust in construction and easy to strip down - the H&S airbrushes are a tad more delicate/fragile). If I could only have one airbrush? It would be the Infinity.
    I've a couple of extras, including nozzle and needle combinations that are fully interchangeable with both of my H&S', makes them so versatile.
    I believe that in the model railway world I was one of the first to start using H&S, I sold my Iwata (which was a heavily pushed brand in the world of model railways). I wrote a few articles and mentioned, photod my Infinity etc (it's very photogenic 😘😉😄) and I noticed a year or so ago certain magazines were full of advertising for H&S, word was getting around. Iwata are great don't get me wrong, but they're not perfect and can be pricey when loaded with features like the H&S Infinity (which is a considered purchase). Airbrushes are a very personal thing, like guitars etc I always think. I like the chunky old Paasches that I own too, when fettled they're easy to live with for quick work and clean up when time is short. For delicate work when time is no consideration one can loose themselves to detailing work with the Infinity - and it can, with a 0.4 or a 0.5 set up and the big paint cup, get some quality finishes down for primers and base coats too. My two Sparmax are better for spraying larger 1/12, 1/16, 1/32 scale models (RC cars, RC locos and RC boat hulls) as is the Paasche H with a 3 or 5 nozzle set.
    I noted your point about thinning/treating already thinned acrylics for the 0.15 set up - to avoid clogging and tip dry etc. 0.15 is pushing the boundaries with acrylics, some sages state not to go below a 0.3 or 0.4. With Passche, especially the H, tip dry is not a factor, due to design and nozzle sizes etc (it's akin to watching a stallion pee😳😄✌️👍).
    I hope that my waffle may help others, if one has the budget, really loves model making, really wants to airbrush etc and do so as painlessly as possible? The Infinity would be a good place to start. It's akin to having a top flight Iwata, but easier to live with and a third of the price?
    I've several airbrushes that I leave set up in specific ways (needle nozzel set ups) and one or two get used only for acrylics and one or two only for enamels - that makes life easy but is a luxury. I could just get away with the Infinity and Paasche H tbh🤔😇😊✌️👍

    I've been using one of these for a while now, one of the best features is the size of the nozzle, compared to an Iwata it's huge which makes cleaning a lot easier & less chance of damage, yes it's expensive but worth it! If cost is an issue, try the H & S Evolution CR Plus 2 in 1, it doesn't have the paint flow adjuster, but it's just as high quality.

  • @lanesteele240

    Im not trying to be a know it all but it is a good idea to never pull or push the sharp end of the needle through the brush.
    I would pull the needle point back into the cup area, remove the front end bits, then push the needle out the front end. This insures you never drag the needle tip on any metal surfaces.
    Thanks for the review

    Important notes. It comes with two noozles and two needles, if you, like me, get confused when taking the thing apart the needle and noozle are marked with 'notches' for match. Furthermore if you buy it from H&S you can customize the colour and even have them laser-engrave your name (or your headshaking partners). Best air-brush I EVER had! Perfect spray and easy clean.

    Had just bought the Infinity CR plus 2 in 1 #2 great airbrush but stupidly removed the quick fix bit at the back of the Airbrush. Put it back on and now there is no difference in adjusting the needle but I'm working on it when I get some paint that is! but a lesson learned. in future just remove the whole body with the quick fix still attached when either cleaning or changing the needle.
    Also when you put the needle back in do you push it slowly till it stops or just pull it back a bit before tightening the needle securing nut. and yes I also depressed the lever when either taking out or putting back in the needle. thanks for the tips just wished I had seen your video beforehand ..

    I bought to the Infinity for the .15 needle - not realizing that I could stick one in an Evo. I found the .15 very hard to use overall - I'm sure there's a place for it, but some acrylic pigments actually will not easily clear a nozzle that small. I've got the .2 in the Evo and so the Infinity carries the .4. I own an Iwata HP also, and agree that the two brands are equivalent. If HS has a weak point it's the cost of it's nozzles and needles - and you will replace nozzles. I've never replaced an Iwata nozzle. But I'm not selling any of them.

      so the black ones near the nozzle is also teflon?

    • @viper29ca
      @viper29ca 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's a rubber O ring, not teflon, and is only there to make a seal between the nozzle head and the airbrush body. No need for it to be teflon, as it would/should never touch paint.
      Only way you would get paint there is if the nozzle isn't screwed on tight, and the paint flows out by the nozzle, even then you would be pretty hard pressed to do that as the teflon nozzle seal would be up against the inside of the airbrush making a seal with the needle.
      If your nozzle was loose enough that the teflon nozzle seal isn't seated, you are going to have paint flowing out by it as soon as you dump it in your color cup.
      As I said, all the seals that matter....are teflon and work for all paints. If you are getting any paint on rubber seals, then your airbrush isn't assembled properly.

    I've been itching to buy one myself I'm using a badger 105 and bought a Renegade Krome that has never worked right, basically a waste of money. The Harder Steenbeck just looks better quality, would you say in your opinion the standard is better than the Badger brand? I value your opinion and that may just push me to spend out the money.

    • @OrcPainterNerd
      @OrcPainterNerd 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Leanmachinepainting In my honest opinion and personal opinion this brush is more refined than the Badger krome. the 0.15 needle nozle is pure German engineering quality. it might take a newcomer a little while to get paint thinning ratios correct with such a small needle nozzle but once correctly thinned it is a beautiful airbrush to paint with.

    • @Leanmachinepainting
      @Leanmachinepainting 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah think it's time to get one, I have paint thinning and airbrush techniques nailed but to be honest I think with any airbrush, getting the right paint consistency is the trick to master along side colour knowledge.

    • @Ebergerud
      @Ebergerud 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll quibble with that. I use water based acrylics (Golden and Vallejo) almost entirely and some of the pigments just won't clear the .15 properly. Brands like Tamiya and Gunze with their dye pigments are better for that kind of painting. And in the real world, a good hand with an airbrush is going to get perfectly splendid results with a .20 (or Iwata's .35). The .15 I think is really made more for ink and specialized work.

    Thank you for the video, I have this airbrush I agree with you, great airbrush (and the easiest for cleaning, the nose sistem is great) I have a question... I try to paint marines too, but I have some issues about to get close to the miniature and the pressure, I use Vallejo paints too, could you tell me what is the pressure you use to paint miniatures so close to the mini to get those fine details?. Thank you.

      +Eduardo Cominguez I normally work at between 20-15psi and thin down the paints until they flow corectly at low psi :)

    • @eduardocominguez5173
      @eduardocominguez5173 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      OrcPainterNerd do you thin down the paint, more than when you use the airbrush for a normal distance paint? (Thank you!)

    I just got mine and I'm finding the trigger to be a little rough on pullback and not as smooth as my Iwata...kind of a scraping metal feeling... Besides that it's a fantastic brush. But is anyone else experiencing this?

  • @davidwyatt8352

    One more little item, The pulse in your line work is caused by your compressor, get one with a tank and that will go away so that your line work will be smooth and clean, looking more like a line drawn by a pen.

    this doesnt have an inbuilt mac valve like some of the iwata. is that an issue? is the mac value useful enough to warrant the higher costs?

      You can buy an external mac valve that connects between the airhose and the airbrush, no problem exist..

    Should i buy it, i started modeling and painting with regular brushes 2 years ago, so i am planning to buy one.In my country this one is available, it is expensive but i am not a budget , i am looking for a good airbrush and i think this one does the job pretty good but if there's anything else you would recommend me i would like to hear it and probably buy it.As i said i am not on budget, i am looking for a high quality paint brush.

      Might be a little late of a reply, but I tend to have that problem on my Ultra 2-in-1. It's usually when I've thinned the paint far too much to the point it's fully liquid and slides down the needle.

    The nozzles are really weak and the atomisation is horiffic; especially at lower pressures. It looks, feels great and is very well built, but performance wise it's average considering the rather hefty price tag. I'd way rather have an Iwata HP-CH which costs exactly the same and does way finer lines etc. Just my opinion though.

    • @Dragonblaster1
      @Dragonblaster1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      WornOutSmiles I have one of these and have no such trouble. I use mainly Vallejo ModelAir acrylics at about 10-15psi, which I don't regard as excessive, and, although the ModelAir is supposed to be airbrush-ready, I put about 3 drops of thinner for every 5 of paint.
      I have never had any issue with it at all, even with squirly late-WWII German aircraft camouflage.

    Hi. I have this AB. I like it very much. I also owe and use the SOTAR 20/20, which is alo a nice piece.
    The beautiful design of the H&S is absolutely stunning when you first hold it. You can feel the quality once in hand.
    The quick fix at the end is cool, yet I struggle with glogging so have to move the needle more to keep the color flowing. I can only recoment this piece, or at least the Evolution. H&S delivered a great piece of art with both of these ABs (Real Talk:The infinity looks absolutely superior, though...) ;-)

    Seems kind of pointless to me to have a high-end airbrush but not use an air tank. You can see the spurts from the compressor. You'd get a much more even flow if you used a tank.

    I've just started with airbrushing and bought this as my first but only with the 0.4 needle. I've been priming Dark Uprising terrain and its absolutely the Rolls Royce to work with as well as look at. It really is incredibly perfect for my hand contour, feels really light, it's never blocked once even though I've never thinned paint for an airbrush before and the control pressure adjustment for the paint at the back, is worth every penny of its design and yes I use it a lot.
    I've replaced the normal pressure valve with the adjustable one and always remove and replace the needle from the front, never the rear, sorry but I cringed when you did that. I've also watched the following cleaning video several times which explains exactly what to do for perfect thougher results...
    th-cam.com/video/tcSBK0l5Lbw/w-d-xo.html
    For viewers that want a complementary video to this one explaining the exact anatomy of this brilliant tool and giving so many answers as to issues that might occur whilst spraying, as well as a crystal clear understanding of why it's so important not to just "back wash/blow", thinking that your cleaning your brush out, then watch this straight after... th-cam.com/video/2Hxwev8c53o/w-d-xo.html
    So glad you uploaded this video that shows so much passion for a tool that is difficult at first to paint through and not just put in a show case and stare at. Owning a Harder and Steenbeck Infinity CR Plus 0.4 is a feeling of rarity, but be warned, if you dare test drive one... I promise you won't give it back
