Two plots of land over there were sold to my sister in the dry season, we had no idea it was waterways, She built apartments on the land and now look at what has happened.
Since they knew it was waterways, why was the land over-there sold. You shouldn’t put all the blame on the people.

I believe that the water company could find a route for that water, there should be a better way. They have to send it underground, perhaps a civil engineer is needed.

It saddens my heart when I see things like this, but our people are hard headed. They are warned not to build in and around waterways, but they don’t listen. Government can’t relocate people here and there under such circumstances.

Also why not demolish the houses close to the dam and expand the water ways with heavy concrete direct into the sea.. but wait till all this happens..

You’re getting it wrong. I have a house there too and I was home visiting when this flood happened. The chiefs of Weija lands are the causes of all evil outcome. The real actual indenture of the area land is different from what we see now on the site because, all the water -ways spaces have been wrongfully sold by some people from the chief’s household to people who have built illegal homes. So unless the government comes in right now to look into the situation then I can assure residents that this is just the beginning of a bigger disaster to come. The Ga South municipal Assemblies is aware that some of their own staff members are helping people build houses where they are not supposed to be built.

I understand the plights of the inhabitants of the towns downstream, and the other neighbouring towns. But what they are asking for cannot be done. Spillgates are only opened for the purposes of relieving the dam off the excess water that may cause damage to the dam, which will eventually result in fatalities. So even though this is not a good option, it is a lesser evil. The main evil will be the spillgates being closed, and the dam failing due to it being at capacity. All the water in the dam will rush down and that will be worse. Closing the spillgates de3, its not a good option now. I sympathize with them paa. Something needs to be done going forward.

What kind of humans are we? Can't we do things right? These lands are not to be occupied, but upon several times that this is happening these people will still not move. The media is also a problem instead of telling people about the unauthorised occupation of the land. They will always go and asked unnecessary questions and not tell them the dangers of the people not thinking as human beings. What is wrong with us. How can you spend your hard earn monies to build at an authorised area. Is Accra the only place to live in Ghana?

The MCE is making a lot of sense. But its practicality is reversed. The rains have been coming in heavy this time in Ghana. GWCL should have expected that the dam will be tested to its capacity, and put the necessary things in place in order not to spill large volumes all at once. I mean if the Densu is silted and you know, why havent you let that be dregded before opening the spillgates. I understand you want to prevent the dam from any damage, but sincerely, practically all these channels should have been made ready for a situation like this. Making the point after the fact is even worse, because now instead of just doing what is necessary (which was not done), you have destroyed the livelihoods and properties of so many people. These things should have been done ahead of the event.
Now that the eastern region rains are coming in, I will advice those who are still around the dam and even lower downstream to leave to higher grounds. Anything can happen. If the amount of water coming into the dam is more than what the spillgates can spill, the dam may be in serious trouble, and you wouldnt want to stay and find out what happens. Im scared for those downstream paaaaa

of the little left of our ailing economy we have to provide relief items and shelter for these people for the children fine but I think every adult should be made responsible dance to your own tune
the mce and his staff should be laid off ECG and GH water heads should roll
most of these settlement are illegal they are in estuaries flood plains so the result is anytime there is flooding it affects much more areas which hitherto did not have such issues why simple it's like putting stones in a cup full with water the stones cause displacement hence the water spills it's the same effect as people build in the flood basin same volume of water will affect much wider area because the houses cause displacement
but this is a failure of our public housing sector honestly most Ghanaians should not be burdened with building their own houses no wonder corruption is rampant majority just need studio one bed and max two bed but what do we see the politicians take over public land hide behind build max one storey structures sell them at prices only few can buy but theifs can afford and you come tell me you care

It’s shameful … weija dam spillage should be controlled…there are modern technologies for controlled spillage … these GWCL can store these waters for irrigation later etc …let’s grow up…at least some feasibility studies could have been done to access impact and the areas to be affected …make sure the entrance into the sea is opened or widened to avoid these misfortunes…these are millions of $ to both individuals, governments etc
