  • John from www.discountjui... compares the Norwalk 290 Juicer and the all-new Pure Juicer, which is approved for use in the Gerson Therapy. Both these juicers are two-stage hydraulic press style juicers.
    In this episode that you will want to watch before you purchase a Norwalk juicer, you will learn about the all-new Pure Juicer, which is an alternative 2-stage hydraulic press style juicer that was designed and built to improve upon the Norwalk Juicer.
    John will give you an in-depth comparison of these two machines, comparing each machine part-by-part so you can learn the differences and similarities between these two cold press style juicers.
    You will learn which machine is easier to use, how long it takes to juice, which juicer makes more juice, has more pressing power, and much much more.
    You will discover how to juice in these two juicers when John juices a Gerson therapy recipe: Carrots and Apples. You will learn how the grinding process works, how to fill a press bag, and how to press out your juice. You will see which juicer can press more juice at one time, and which juicer makes more yield. You will also learn how much time you can save by using one juicer over another.
    Next, John will compare juicing leafy greens (lettuce) and celery in both machines, so you will learn the differences between pressing smaller amounts of green juice in each machine. You will discover the yield difference as well as residual pulp that was left in each machine.
    Finally, John will share his summary of this Norwalk vs Pure Juicer comparison and declare a winner of this Juice-Off Comparison Review.

    At 21:00 it wasn't til I used my Pure Juicer that I understood the "dimple" in the bottom of the Pure Juicer push rod... you can figure it out for yourself when you are doing carrots! So much thought has gone in to every aspect. We are very happy we went the way we did.

    I’ve owned a Norwalk 270 four years now and I’ve made a lot of juice with it. The two stage juicer design is great. What jumped out at me instantly about the Pure was the cutter. I’m a machinist and the Norwalk cutter is an absolute joke. It’s like the designers of the Pure read my mind with every improvement they’ve come up with.

    John, I am so glad that you brought up the differences in shipping. I ordered a Norwalk juicer. It was dented on arrival. It was such a nightmare for me. I was so sick. I really needed juice. After spending 2500 dollars for the Norwalk it took another three months, and many, many phone calls to get it repaired. Apparently the shipping company that Norwalk works with refused to pay the shipping and damages. They were supposed to cover any damages while in shipping. As they refused to honor their agreement with the Norwalk company it suddenly became my problem. Norwalk did not want to cover the damages either. In the end I paid some money and had it sent back three months later. Very disappointing. In the meantime I came across your videos, John. I was able to purchase a Greenstar juicer from you. I love it. I have since gifted that juicer to a friend in need and purchased the newer Greenstar. What a great juicer. I must admit that I love the taste of the juice from the Norwalk. Yet, there are definitely great benefits to having the Greenstar. It covers juicing wheatgrass, which is not done so well from my experience with the Norwalk. The Greenstar juices wheatrass like a dream. Thanks again, John, for making such nice videos.

    I have had a Norwalk 265, now I have a Pure Juicer, John is right on in this video. Sure the Norwalk is a great juicer and the the quality of juice from the Norwalk method is superior to other cold press juicers. But, The Pure Juicer is better designed, better build and very impressive in operation. I am very thank full for David Feinburg and His dedication to producing a excellent machine which makes the serious juicing easier.

    Explain this to me if you would: (I did not watch the entire video, by the way.)
    John, why would you make negative comments about the centrifugal, spinning basket kind of juicer for (supposedly) degrading the nutrients in the juice, yet the initial phase of the Pure and Norwalk is far more violent on the produce and would necessarily destroy at least as many as any cheap centrifugal type of machine.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pure centrifugal machines are like a clothes washing machine on the spin cycle, continually spinning the produce around to get out the juice. This continually adds oxygen into the pulp, causing excess oxidation.
      more modern centrifugal ejection machines spin 10,000+ rpm, which really adds oxygen into the juice being created.
      The 2 stage juicers in this episode run at 3000 rpm and grind the produce up, adding little oxgen into the juice, but causing oxidation to the produce.
      This is one of the reasons, I would personally prefer a single stage low rpm juicer myself for juicing most things. I would get a Green Star Pro if I were juicing for the gerson therapy myself.

    Greetings John. Im verry interested in buying a Pure Juicer. I own a.norwalk 280 and a Green star Elite Pro. The green star elite pro takes so long too clean and clogs up very fast. Making a gallon juice i bassically need too clean it 2 or 3 times . Its far more time consuming and that has made.it difficult for me too maintain daily juicing. I have heard alot of complaining about Puee juice mashines that are damaged is this true?? That its made in China and some units show awful results? As of now i am interested in purchasing a Pure Juicer but just want too make sure its a long lasting mashine . Please John help me with the right choice. Thank you.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nathan, the Pure is basically the same as the Norwalk you own, so there is no significant difference in juicing than the norwalk, just the overall experience will be easiest and a little faster. I honestly would not get a pure if you already own the norwalk, unless you love the "concept of the norwalk" but "hate its implementation", and have an extra $$$ laying around.

    A very detailed examination. Thank you. But you didn't address the most important element to this type of juicing. The grinding plates. It looked like you were using a very large holed plate for the Norwalk. This would reduce the amount of juice extracted. Maybe try the comparison with comparable screen sizes.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the same size grids on both machine.
      In the NW I used the #1 grid with 1/4” perforations.
      In the Pure I used the #6 grid. 1/4” and 6mm are very close to the same size 6.35mm and 6mm respectively.
      PURE’s measure their grids in mm so number #6, #8, #10, #12 grids correspond to 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm. What PURE has found is that increased pressure and longer press time contribute more to increased yield than grid size. These accounts for the difference in yield. PURE actually recommend using the #10 as the best all around juicing grid. By using larger grids, PURE finds this significantly lowers after grinding pulp temperatures by as much as 20F.

    Sir John the phytochemicals & nutrients will be safe after crushing the fruit (or) they will die as done in centrifugal juicer due to oxidation of air????

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Least Oxidation is best when juicing and after juicing.
      For highest phytochemicals:
      1. start with high phytochemical produce
      2. juice in a way that damages them the least (generally lowest RPM)
      3. drink as soon as possible
      4. (or store under vacuum to less oxidation occurs after making before drinking)

      Bite1, I don't see the oxidation you are claiming, in fact the opposite. The PH from pure juice is not acidified, the color doesn't change in fact its richer and the juice temp is within 15F of the produce temp. These are all strong indicators on NOT oxidizing.

      Correct, the Pure is Made in China, and the Norwalk is Made in the USA with domestic imported components.

    these juicers say they give 50%-100% more juice than other juicers. Have you done a comparison of one of these to a juicer like the Kuvings C7000? would love to see that, thanks!
    And does the cutting action oxidize the juice like a centrifugal juicer so you need to drink it right away, or is it like a masticating juicer where the juice is good for a few days? thanks again!!

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stay tuned. I will have episodes comparing the Pure to other slow juicers. I havent personally see yield being 100% more, but more for sure. Depends on the produce and the other juicer being used but 10%-35% more in my estimation. Yes, oxidation does occur in the first stage, but I do not believe it as much as a centrifugal. I do always recommend drinking your juice right after its made for best benefit. I would store juices made with a slow juicer (including the pure) for no more than 3 days in a vacuum sealed jar.

    What is the height of the whole Pure Juicer:? It say 16.5" on the website, is this only the stainless box or does this height include the feeder and the black pusher? I just want to make sure that the whole things assemble will fit under on the counter underneath my cabinet area.

      Correct. The Pure is a 2 stage juicer, just like the norwalk. That is where the similarities end. It was designed from the ground up to be a "better mousetrap"

    Hi John, beautiful and detail complete video. What is the heat level of the grinded produce? Although this is a cold-press juicer, the grinding stage heats up the produce, especially with the Norwalk. Thanks for your commitment and hard work. Angela

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The heat level of ground produce depends. Both these machines were brand new, so they had SHARP cutting blades, which minimizes heat generation. That being said, if you grind long enough (high quantities of produce), it can get warm. I have friends that use ice packs on the side of their norwalk chute to keep it cold(!). That being said, once a norwalk blade gets dull, it tends to significantly cause more heat as there more friction created. With the pure, the heat rise will be minimal, as the blades are sharper, there are more of them, and they use a hardened steel that is much less likely to get dull. Its also important to select the proper grid size, as an incorrect grid size will keep excess produce in the chamber and not allow it to be spit out, which causes more friction = heat build up. All this being said, I still consider two-stage press juicers, cold press juicers. That being said, true slow juicers create less heat and oxidation damage to the produce when juicing IMO.

      David from PURE here. The PURE does not heat produce, typically the ground mashed is within 5-10 degreesF of the pre-ground temp. The beauty of the PURE is cold mash!

      Hi David. I am a longtime customer of John Kohler. He has been a critical raw diet resource since May 2013, when I began taking responsibility for my health. I have not purchased from John in a while, BUT that is about to change. I've owned a few different juicers, horizontal and vertical. At present, I use the Tribest Slow Juicer. I had decided to next buy the Super Angel. BUT that decision has changed. I almost bought an "improved Norwalk". What stopped me was it's super-heated mash and too long of a cleaning time. Six days ago, I happened upon John's video. I've been intrigued, now mesmerized ever since. Yesterday, I printed your Pure manual. Been reading thru. Some might say I'm Pure-ly obsessed. Tee hee. Your response to my post sealed the deal (for John). Lol. Pure is going to take my health journey to it's next level. You and John K. are a blessing. Be well and thank you! Angela

      Sorry for the later reply. Mash temps on the PURE are consistently super low. People ask why and the reason is because the cutter is super efficient the cutting time is very quick. .
      Mash temps on the PURE are consistently super low. People ask why and the reason is not just the cutter but the geometry of the entire system: Offset feed tube cutter, cutting chamber and Grid. The way the grinder works is the grids create resistance/backpressure and this keeps the mash in the chamber, the size of the grid regulates grind. We have found with the PURE that the best grids ar the 10mm & 12mm for grinding. Unlike the other two stage juicer where the recommended size grids are 3mm, 4.5mm and 6mm. It's no wonder push pressure is lower and the mash is cooler. We find the 10mm grid is ideal and is plenty fine to release all the juice from the pulp.Juice release is a function not just of grind, but pressure and press time. It's the combination that provides the complete yield.

      Nothing. I have never taken money to make a video. I have received free juicers to make videos. Many manufacturers provide me juicers so I can share my feedback with them on how they can improve their machine, and also so I can test them and make videos about them. That being said, Pure Juicer Company has NOT given me a juicer. I strive to show how each juicer works along with its pros and cons in my videos to sell juicing as a whole to educate the public about the differences of juicers. A Juicer is just a tool to get you there, and I understand each person has their own individual wants/needs/desires in a juicer, and that is where one brand and style of juicer may be better for a person than another. I wish I could make a video showing the Norwalk is superior. I want the juicer industry to evolve and improve as a whole, and I see my videos playing a part to help make juicers more easy to use, more versatile, extract higher yields, and make them easier to clean. My videos share the truth about machines by letting people see my experiences and hear my commentary first hand.

    John, the reason someone would want the Norwalk juicer over the Pure is because you can get used Norwalks in good condition for $1,500 and even less which is the best way to go.
    Also John you need to be honest with your viewers, you say the Pure is better because you sell the Pure juicer and don't sell the Norwalk, so you have a financial stake in this.

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      I encourage in many cases people to purchase a used juicer if they can not purchase new. That being said. Purchasing a used norwalk can be problematic:
      1. If you buy it online and get it shipped to you, its highly likely that it will not be packed properly, and it will break in transit. (this happened to BOTH the used norwalks I purchased)
      2. Used Norwalk juicers do NOT have a transferable warranty, meaning if the $1500 used juicer breaks, you must pay more for shipping and parts to get it fixxed.
      (Used Pure Juicers DO have a transferable warranty when proper procedures are followed)
      3. You do not know the condition of the machine, if it was used/abused if the cutter is dull or other problems the juicer has.
      4. Basically you can "save" money but you might have much downtime, which can be CRITICAL if someone is juicing for Gerson therapy.
      That's is why I would recommend purchasing a new juicer to get the warranty.
      While I do sell the Pure Juicer, and it DID perform better, IF the norwalk DID perform better, make higher yields, and was a superior machine, this demonstration would have showed it. Sadly, it didn't. While I do sell the Pure Juicer, im sure some people purchase the unit DIRECTLY from Pure, without going thru me, so in many instances, I will NOT benefit from this video. I do offer many of the juicers I show in my other videos as well. Furthermore, I had contacted Norwalk in the past so I could sell them too (as I play no favorites) I like to offer all the major brands, but they did not want me retailing their machine.
      That being said, if I was in the market for a Norwalk Juicer or Pure Juicer (that costs in excess of $2300) I personally would not buy either! I would get the Green Star Pro for $795
      www.discountjuicers.com/greenstarpro.html
      and use the other $1500+ dollars to put in a raised bed vegetable garden so a person can grow their own high quality fruits and vegetables (higher quality than the store) and have unlimited amounts of produce to juice. I teach people how to grow their own food free at www.growingyourgreens.com/
      On certain produce items the Green Star will yield more than the even the Pure, on other items less. But in many cases, in my opinion and based on the data I have seen the GSP makes a higher quality juice, is a 1-step juicer, is easier to use/clean although it takes more physical strength to use.
      I strive to show the pros and cons of all the different styles and types of juicers out there to educate people about them, so they can make the best educated decision about their juicer purchase.

    Two stage juicers are high yeald CENTRIFUGAL juicers.
    John, you are amazing, I love watching your vids, so detailed... Keep up the good work.
    When I was shopping for a cold press juicer, I looked up so many review sites and so many TH-cam vids. I called Norwalk and asked them about the grinder speed in RPMs
    Rep: 3k.
    Me: so although it presses cold, the juice itself will be oxidized and there for not cold pressed juice.
    Rep: it is cold pressed.
    Me: Yet still oxidized.
    Rep: it is cold pressed.
    Me: thank you.
    No one had talked about oxidizing when compared or reviewed (as cold press) any two stage juicers. Just looking at the colours of the juice in the comparison vids... Very obvious, higher yeald then any other juicer, but very oxidized compared to any cold press juicer.

    $2.6 K for a juicer?! This really doesn't make sense unless you own a juice bar. Even those fancy Omega juicers cost less than $500 and are far less hassle to actually get juice. What's wrong with them? Have some money left over to actually buy the produce to juice. Thank you for such careful reviews, but this is a ridiculous budget buster. BTW It occurs to me that the "clear juice" might just be water.

      DiscountJuicers.com have you done any comparisons that show the Norwalk should not be used to grind flour? Do you adress the uncertainties that come with buying from a start up company. Why is the fact that Norwalk has been around for close to 100 years something to scoff at? What is your expertise in metalury that qualifies you to illustrate the Norwalk cutting blade as a flimsy dinner knife and the Pure as a big chef knife (it really is a ridiculous comparison.). ? Why do you not discuss the probabilities of failure with higher pressures. The list can go on. You are obviously bias. This does not mean the Pure is a bad juicer. it simply means you comparison is not professional.

      I do not advocate using any juice to grind grains into flour. I would recommend using a specific grinder designed for grinding grains.
      Just because a company has been around for 100 years does not make it a company that produces a good product, it means they have been profitable.
      I would encourage you to do the same comparisons that I have done, and upload them to your youtube channel, to show your results, and you can explain things how you would like. I would love to see it!

    I have a Norwalk 290 and I LOVE IT!!! It was quite obvious to me that you are pushing the PURE juicer! Everything you pointed out as a 'problem' with the Norwalk, is total bullshit. The over acting on the screen and calling it a 'hazard' is just silly. You do NOT need a 'tool' to turn the wing nuts! I am an older woman and have never had a problem using my thumb and forefinger, you know; the way you unscrew anything? Everything negative you said about the Norwalk was stupid! The little insinuations about Norwalk having to copy this Pure juicer is just crazy. I mean, open your eyes and look at the Pure Juicer made by a NEW COMPANY, and the Norwalk Juicer, that has been made and improved since the 1930's and tell me; WHO COPIED WHO!!??? The Pure juicer is an obvious copy of a Norwalk. The Norwalk Is a company that has been in existence for decades and their products are made in America. I used to really like watching your stuff, but I've lost all respect for you now. Your blatant bias makes it obvious to me that I was wrong about you. For years, I have been watching you, thinking you were honest and unbiased. You are not. Goodbye

    • @discountjuicers
      @discountjuicers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can say you are biased because you already own a norwalk. In any case, I try to show it how it is. I have tested many juicers over the years and have over 500 videos comparing different juicers. I do not work for pure. I would encourage you to get a pure and use it side-by-side against your norwalk, you will clearly see the benefit that I saw when I used them side-by-side.

    Do not buy this juicer if you are opening a juice bar in the US. They are NOT NSF certified and most health departments will not allow you to use them. Looks like an amazing machine, but they have missed the mark on the juice business by not getting certified for commercial use
