    Aaron LeFay’s Cersei skirt construction (pictured left to right):
    Picture 1 is of the stretch waste band I made to pull all the skirt panels to my hips so that it is snug and fans out as it falls
    Picture 2 is the back of the skirt panels the fabric I choose was to show a bit of history because Game of Thrones is based off the Wars of the Roses. The design reminded me of old United Kingdom and Celtic art and to also show Cersei walking away from the lavish life and freedom she use to know
    Picture 3 shows one side of the side panels of the skirt. I loved the fabric because it shows that her character has been broken and was made into nothing like sand it also represents the ashes of when she blew up the sept and killed the High Sparrow and all in it.
    Picture 4 This fabric I love because of just how wild it is. It makes me think of three things one the effects of wild fire and dragon fire because of the waves and swirls and it also reminds me of frost because of the shine it has and to show that the Night King and white walkers are coming and also pay respect to House Starks words, “Winter is Coming” and its is finally here.
    Pika Chu’s costume design of Sansa’s end-goal costume description:
    This is based purely on the theory that Sansa will end up on the iron throne at the end of ASOIAF & that she will Mirror Elizabeth I in that she won't marry.
    She has an embroidered jewelled weirwood leaf wreath around her neck, representing how her Direwolf died & placing the importance of the Stark religion & what she learnt after having the Stark in her to die, only to resurface once again in the later seasons. This wreath is atop a white version of Catelyn's banded Tully neck piece, Sansa wears hers higher up her neck.
    She has a wedding cloak over the top of her dress which falls down behind her, symbolising her marriage to herself & to the people, instead of the forced marriages she went through. On the shoulders are white (for Winterfell) embroidered ravens. Sansa is the only Stark not to have shown her warging abilities yet, the other children have warged into their wolves but many believe that Sansa will warg into a bird because of the bird references she's so often associated with, this detail represents Sansa as her own sole entity.
    She has blood red fish hooks down the centre of her dress for her mother's house Tully.
    The bottom of the dress is massive & billowed to reference Elizabeth [I] but also to represent Sansa's newfound power, whilst also retaining the romanticism that Sansa held onto in the very beginning, suggesting that whilst she's changed for the better in so many ways, she can still believe & hope in the beauty of what she imagined as a child. The blue of the dress mirrors the first dress she wears in episode 1, light blue for the innocent, romantic Stark child. White embroidered wolves and fish adorn the blue fabric at the bottom, red weirdwood leaves are stitched down the dress, cascading into ruffles.
    She has Stark fur around her waist.
    I wanted to include some kind of embroidery about her defeating her enemies... possibly a wolf stamping on a lion, to mirror her dress she wore to marry Tyrion. BUT I like the idea that she wouldn't want any of her enemies anywhere near her headspace & clothing!
    ALSO, I recognise this style of dress doesn't seem to have been worn in the GoTs world yet, but I like the idea that Sansa makes her own gowns, and would come up with something completely new, for a new era of ruling in Westeros!

    Thanks a million for this. I love the level of detail you've been able to go into, like the different types of fur and collars for the Stark's and their children compared to the Smallfolk around them.

    The Dark Round Pendant from the "Dark Sansa" look might be a Theta. There is another story by GRRM called in the House of the Worm(don't read it unless you like gross stuff) where two warring factions live underground to protect themselves from the hot surface The human looking group wears a Golden Theta Sigil on their clothes and blind monster like creatures are wear a silver theta. The story is about how humanity is the cause and the solution to all of our problems. In the comic book version of In the House of The Worm you can the Theta is highly stylised and looks like Sansa Pendant.
    You can also see the Theta in the scene where the young Night's Watch Ranger is trying to sneak into the wildling camp. The bodies of dead wilding form a circle with bar in the middle. The Wilding little girl looks over it scene like a weirwood. The color grading give the scene a cool silver blue look. Another scene in where the theta appears is Khal Drogo funeral pyre and it appears golden orange.

    Wow, that's a lot of knotted belts!
    I really like your videos. They're so informative and really make me look at things I don't notice when watching the show. I especially like how people like Sansa pick up different influences along the way. This attention to detail is one reason the show is so great. Thanks for all your in-depth research!

      @GarageMovieReviews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm...weird! TH-cam and it's picky notifications...
      It went much better than I expected! I got around 100 views in the first day! I think my wife promoted it more than I did 😊 Now i just have to start cranking them out faster. That first video was a beast! I have even more respect now for people like you that have a wealth of content...it's no easy feat!

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Garage Movie Reviews The first video is the hardest! Once you get your groove on it gets faster. I think Nick Nimmen said at the beginning he made vids in a cluster and then released them one at a time. What I do now is research and write one while I am doing the voice over, final edit on another. I'm also cutting down the length so that I can upload more often.
      I know you'll do great. You have a great concept and your home page, header and thumbs look awesome!

    • @GarageMovieReviews
      @GarageMovieReviews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I hope to get that organized eventually. If I can get my research done ahead of time, I'd like to record two or three a week, then edit them one at a time and record every other week. That first video took me 2 hrs to film and who KNOWS how many to edit, but reusing graphics and music will help tremendously in shaving off time. And my filming time will gradually come down as I get comfortable with what works and what doesn't.
      I think shorter, more frequent uploads would be good for your content. The subject matter lends itself well to that format. Plus, it always seems to help to have more videos, as far as exposure and 'shareability' is concerned.
      Thanks for the encouragement! It took me a bit to settle on a look, but I think it has a nice cohesion between channel/thumbnail graphics and my in-video graphics. I appreciate you taking a look!

    Hi there. I'd like to comment about the belt knots. I'm part of a group that does medieval recreation and the way they have their leather belt knotted looks like typical wear to me. I personally haven't done an indepth research on the topic of belts, so grain of salt.
    In all of the medieval drawings I've seen, a long leather belt with a knot seemed to be the style across medieval Europe. It started with a metal ring that evolved into a buckle along the line with the knot continuing even as the belt got shorter. The oldest example of a knotted belt I could find was a recreation drawing of a 14th century soldier though the hanging part of the belt was only an inch or two.
    Since it looks like Michele Clapton was aiming for general European medieval feel of for a lot of Westeros, I can see the long leather belt in this manner making it's way into a lot of the costume designs.

  • @MajoradeMayhem
    @MajoradeMayhem 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You've touched on something that made me realise why I still don't like Sansa's Season 7 dresses - there's too much going on. Both the Stark wolf clasps and the giant ring (with the giant ring just being ugly in the first place). Feathers and wolf fur. Margery's shoulders and Cersei's asymmetric neckline, plus Caitlyn elements...
    It's too much of a muchness, and furthermore, these styles were explicitly meant to contrast. Margery is supposed to contrast with Cersei, so of course mixing their elements comes off a cacophonous.
    My suggestion: lose the black. I hate it. Blue is her colour. Also lose the giant ring; keep the wolf elements. In fact, add more wolf elements, lose the feathers. Go very Stark. The asymmetric neckline particularly needs to go, it looks very out of place against an otherwise symmetric cut. Keep the shoulders, since Sansa wants to be bigger and more powerful.

    • @tess064
      @tess064 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe that's the point. Her costume is not about beauty, but it tells her story. She is the combination of all of these women. I hate the necklace too, but it's much better than her previos one. But again, it may represent something important, it's a sign we saw a couple of times before, so I think it does mean something, we are just not aware of it yet. And you cannot just make blue her color. She only wore grey in season 7, because that's the Stark color, it doesn't just happen to be grey.

    • @MajoradeMayhem
      @MajoradeMayhem 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tess064 What I meant to say is, blue is Caitlyn's colour. Sansa's very first dresses are blue like her mother's, and her embroidered wolf dress at the Battle of the Bastards harks straight back to this. Deep blue also has the advantage of really contrasting with the red hair. My urge is to see Sansa go back to blue.
      I actually think Sansa's best and most Stark dress was the one she wore while pleading for mercy. It's straight up a Stark flag, white with pale green on the bottom. White would also be my chief pick for Sansa, but her wedding might have totally soured that. Also, Dany has probably snatched white back again. (Damn you, Dany.)
      Mauve suits Sansa extremely well. Unfortunately I can't pick that because it is very much her colour of mourning.
      You're correct that black and grey are the colour palette of the Stark men (and hence Arya). But I would say that black is pretty much the last colour I would place Sansa in (second to Lannister scarlet).

    • @Costume_CO
      @Costume_CO  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you are saying Majora. Btw, there was a dress pictured in one of last season's behind the scenes that I was certain was meant for Sansa, but it never made it to screen for some reason.
      Why I think it was for Sansa is it was the same silhouette but in the Lannister soft green from the sigil. It's hard to know sometimes what goes on behind the scenes are why they do the things they do sometimes.
