I was also let go of my job in the UAE because I became a "security risk". They brought me into immigration and questioned me on why I was growing my beard and my Islamic background. Eventually I couldn't get my airport pass renewed and my company had to let me go. I still have no job, but Allah is testing me at this moment. May Allah grant us aafiyah from our problems.

Disagree unfortunately with you brother. Rulers are in positions of great responsibility and therefore cannot be held to the same standards as the rest of us. You suggested that the rulers of our nations are people with faults and shortcomings as that is true but their mistakes and decisions can result in so much more than my lack of piety. Literal wars are the result of these leaders. You causally describe them as if they were sitting in my 3 bedroom apartment struggling to keep their prayers up. We are not the same, like the wealthy will be asked about their wealth so will these leaders due to the authority Allah ta'ala has given them. It's not an equal playing field here brother. You've analyzed this too much. Some things need to be called as they are.

i think brother Shahid gave a sound advice and it is true - Rulers, Scholars and us are similar in terms of accountability based on the charges we are responsible with -
of course, the responsibility differs according to the power given but everyone is accountable. just do your thing as you should that pleases Allah. most of us are not rulers and we are not given that power by Allah for a reason. however, we are given the power to spread peace, be discerning and act based on our level - an eagle can't be a sparrow

What good is "inheriting an empire" if the generation that's going to inherit it grew up on "moderate" Islam (in reality, watered down Islam) that's promoted by Saudi and Emirati authority?
What good is it if Islam, the thing most important to us, gets sidelined and relegated to just wudu and fasting fatwas?
Islam needs an authority to thrive, just as it needs to be the authority over political, economical and law-making decisions. Otherwise what different would we be from any kafir state?

(إن الله لا يصلح عمل المفسدين)
I hiiiighly doubt any success can come out of a ruler who actively and consciously spreads corruption in the land. The most apparent example of this is Sisi. Guy gets failures exposed on a weekly basis and doesn't achieve any real success outside the ficticious world of state controlled media. He's living on foreign support while all of Egypt (outside of the pashas and generals) is hungry. And the examples are many.

I understand the sentiment, but where do we draw the line or are you saying that whatever the leader does we have to assume the best and have to find justification for him cus the alternative is worse? But isn't that fearmongering, or isn't that exactly how Orientalist used to describe us, and still do, "Despotism predisposed people". Like one of the leaders started forcefully liberalizing a country, not just liberalizing, but introducing the most radical elements of it and the other jailed thousands of innocent people to further legitimize his leadership position. One intuitively would ask if there any conditions attached to their leadership, and their legitimacy as leaders if yes, in your opinion, I'd really like you to unequivocally let us know what they are and if not could you take us through the implications of such a worldview. And even though I'm not sure I'm fully convinced by it myself, Wael Hallaq view would be that these are secular leaders and not khalifas representing shariah but that would be a different cattle of fish. Esselamu alikum brother.

But books and the written word can reach them. There is also an effort to revive arabic as the Muslim ummah's lingua franca but for the "politics of arabisation". This is a perspective I’ve not heard before. I appreciate your comments about the real world and how power operates.
I do struggle to see how a ruler who orders massacres of refugees (current situation on Saudi boarder) can be seen as a little character fault. I also am concerned about the criticism that power interests in SA and UAE can manipulate what is taught as normative islam.
Your comments certainly reveal my own lack of knowledge in this area!

@khaliilbinammar4700 I got information from Middle East Eye based on multiple eye witness reports compiled by Human Rights Watch. So far I’ve not been given any reason to doubt these sources. I’m not sure who would benefit. Do you have counter information?
I’m not privy to the internal dynamics of the Saudi administration but I would think it is fair to assume that (unless the reports are fabricated) the army were acting on orders received from those in charge.
I agree that finding trustworthy sources is a challenge and that there is misinformation. Do you believe it is actually possible to know what is true?
